  • Boys only today once again and it's never felt so good.
Today we're talking about Ed's scrape with the remnants of the Tory right wing, from inside the room this time round.
We then get on to Kemi Badenoch's chaos era, taking aim at nearly all of her Tory colleagues.
We then get into the depths of Irish politics for no reason whatsoever.

I found the discussion of Irish politics fascinating-and Seán is, as always, very engaging-because (1) I tend to think of the Irish as “socially conservative” (which must be about 50 years out of date) _and,_ moreover, (2) the whole idea of a “Citizens' Assembly” sounds shockingly democratic-like, how did “they” (i.e., the élites) manage to allow _that?_ (And, of course, as someone in the US, I know _nothing_ about any of this.)
P.S. Politics in Scotland is really interesting, too, Ed.

The simple fact is that the Tories are so in love with their ideology, their party, and their politics of divide and rule, and so convinced that they are basically god given the right to rule, it prevents them from seeing the truth. And the truth is, over 14 years, they tried every flavour of right wing, corporate loving, laissez-faire capitalism, along with some of the old school Tory bigotry, and each and every time their policies, whether economic or social, have made life considerably worse for everyone in the UK who isn't a member of a tiny, select few, many of whom happen to be Conservative party donors. A handful of those donors are the same, far right wing, owners and operators of 80% of UK news media. When the governing party has 80% of the news media acting as their defacto propaganda arm, yet they STILL LOSE, it shows that they really have screwed the country over to the point that you have alienated, and in some cases traumatised, so many different demographics of people, in so many different ways, that no one, at least, no-one outside of your organisation, has anything but; suspicion at best, and pure hated at worst, for you and your politics of division. Taking all those factors into account, along with others, such as the boundary changes that the Tories drew up to try make it even harder for anyone but them to get a majority, and, the absolutely blatant voter suppression tactics of changing the law in order to make ALL voters require to take photo id with them to the polling station, it becomes clear, again, to anyone who isn't part of the Tory organisation, that with the sheer amount of economic and political power, money and resources behind the tories, it's am absolute miracle that labour managed to even win at all, and a reflection of the scale of the animosity that people have for the tories. And fwiw, Reform, which is a company, not a political movement, couldn't even get much more than UKIP did, even with an extremely friendly news media giving Faragepre airtime than even the lib Dems!
