Fantastic explanation of why you like this author so much. I was always wondering why you would do so many read-alongs of him, while at the same time jokingly disparaging his writing- I'm glad you had an opportunity to meditate on his work for 15 mins due to this series. Thank you!
I saw the hardcover editions of the Barsoom series with the Frazetta covers on your channel some time ago and was immediately convinced to get the whole set. They're impossible to get in Europe, I had to get them shipped from the US. no regrets, love them a lot
An interesting observation from Richard Lupoff's bio of Burroughs, (paraphrased) Burroughs wrote a three-act play which was awful. The only funny line in it is in a stage direction. The scene is a living room which has an upright piano. The piano is in tune.
This was fascinating! I just read Tarzan of the Apes for the first time, and I'd have to say I have a lot more fun with John Carter. Library of America has beautiful hardcover reprints of the first editions of both, if anyone's looking to snag a copy.
I loved Tarzan, he was one of my childhood heroes. I always felt he became a superhero because of the knowledge he acquired from living with is ape family. And so I understood that non-humans are our family, too. I think that laid the foundation for becoming vegan later in life. Plus I still love Tarzan. 💖
It was indeed! Some days, there just isn't time for me to record a separate podcast, and I figure many of my Cedarburg listeners might not watch my channel!
I just adore the Tarzan series, but I could never recommend Burroughs to my students due to the thinly veiled racism in his work. I just don't see my Native American or African American students feeling comfortable reading Tarzan or Princess of Mars.

I enjoyed Tarzan of the Apes, but I really love the Barsoom series. It’s so much comforting fun.
I found the first volume of Irwin Porges' biography of Burroughs in a charity shop the other day. For £1. It looks great, full of pictures!

You’re dog is so precious!

I love the Tarzan stories
I do too! I didn't mean to sound in this video like I was dumping on poor old "Tarzan and the Madman"!
I read the first three John Carter books a few years back, still need to read Tarzan. So, how about that Dune trailer?
Hah! Yes, the Dune trailer! Since I've now had roughly 100,000 questions about it, I'm thinking it should be part of tomorrow's MegaStuff video!
Steve Donoghue that would be great 👍
Hi Steve, was it your intention to use the audio for this in the most recent episode of your podcast? I was a bit confused when listening!
