    The point of the "After 1 comes 2..." lyrics is to say that things like hotels having no 4th floor are stupid because the floor above the 3rd is still the 4th, whatever people want to call it - because that's how numbers work. Calling it the 5th floor doesn't make it the 5th floor in the sequence - it's still the 4th floor.
    This is just one more aspect that makes this song so brilliant. It is deceptively simple, but is actually very nuanced, layered, and complex. One of my top four Babymetal songs of all time!
    Thank you, sensei, for doing this series. I have watched all 88 of them!

    Duane-Metal! Singe I got interested in your channel because of your awesome explanation of Onedari Daisakusen I watched all of them! Song 4 is a really complex song and my Japanese already helped me to understand while listening to it!
    But I can't wait for some Duane-Metal-lesson! With you I get the feeling to learn better! Listening to you makes me learn English AND Japanese at the same time!
    Thank you very much! I hope you keep on after you explained all songs! No week without Duane-Metal-lessons!!

    「シ」が「ヨン」に置き換わった理由は次の話を聞いたことがあります;
    明治より前、中国語由来の数は「イチ、ニ、サン、シ、ゴ、ロク、シチ、ハチ、キュウ(ク)、ジュウ」としか発音されていませんでした。
    しかし「シチ」は「シ」および「イチ」に似ていて聞き間違えてしまう可能性があります。
    作戦開始時刻や敵機の数など、数の伝達は軍隊にとって勝敗を決するほど重要で、誤謬があってはなりません。
    そこで富国強兵を掲げた明治政府が"正式に"「シ」を「ヨン」に、「シチ」を「ナナ」に日本由来の発音から借りてくる形で置き換えました。
    大西巨人が自身の太平洋戦争の実体験を基にした小説「神聖喜劇」の中でも、数の発音が軍規によって定義されていることが触れられています。

      +BingTiddleTiddleBong 情報有り難う御座います.それはありますね.歯科関係者が「抜糸」のことを「バツイト」というのも同じく誤解を防ぐためです.私も電話でホテルやレストランの予約を入れる時には4月,7月のことをヨンガツ,ナナガツ,と伝えています.

      私は最近になってハマりだした乗り遅れ組です。海外からの逆輸入で火がつくあたりとか、音楽的化学反応とか、テクニカルな演奏・シニカルでユーモラスな歌詞とか、昔好きだったYMOと重ね合わせてBMを楽しんでおります。
      先生のこのシリーズは曲の理解、英語/日本語および日本文化の勉強ができる一石三鳥のすばらしい動画です。
      是非、ご無理をなさらない程度に活動を続けてください。応援しております!

      +dan bejarano Hi, Dan. Thanks for watching. Well, Japanese counting systems are so complicated that it requires a long lecture, which I'm afraid will be a digression from the purpose of this series. Sorry.

    So the '4' equals the ominous '13' in Western tradition (no room 13 in many hotels).
    By the way: 1 plus 3 IS 4!

    • @DuaneMetal
      @DuaneMetal  3 года назад

      That's right. I think there is such an ominous number in almost every culture.

      @@DuaneMetal I didn't know before that the number 4 had an unlucky bearing in Japan. Thank you very much for the excellent presentation on BABYMETAL lyrics!

    I do have one question about the London England show when they did the black babymetal show they spelled Darth Vader Like this Derth Vader why did they do it like that would like to have a explanation love the lessons I just found this weird

    • @DuaneMetal
      @DuaneMetal  8 лет назад

      I think it was simply a typo.

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae 7 лет назад

      At Wembley they wrote it as: Death Vader. :-)

    • @DuaneMetal
      @DuaneMetal  7 лет назад

      Oh, then, it was not just a typo. It was intentional. :-)

    One thing I don't quite understand is when to use hi / fu in contrast to hito / futa. Are the latter always used when a counter is appended, as in hitotsu / futatsu? Or are there counters that are directly appended to hi / fu?

    • @DuaneMetal
      @DuaneMetal  6 лет назад

      You are right. hi/fu is used only when we enumerate things One, Two, Three ..... hito/futa always take counters to follow.
