“If I had a penny for every vocaloid song that sounded happy but was actually incredibly sad I’d have too many to count which is a lot and is incredibly concerning”
@@pickmeup20.02 Sorry but they are way too many to list lol. There's a pretty good chance you'll find ones by yourself if you read the lyrics, they usually fool us with upbeat music and deep lyrics. No I have not listened to tsukinami
@@childesbrokenribs ahh u should listen to that i recommend it tho i like it because i played it on osu its a rhythm game but its a good one nevertheless
It’s interesting to see people say it sounds like a happy song. I mean…. It is definitely trying to give you that impression. But…. It sounds like the song is about to fall in on itself any second like the girl in the song who is trying so hard to hold it together. It’s genuinely heartbreaking…..
I've commented on the original video abt how this song reminds me of Sayori from ddlc, and someone pointed out that Iyowa once tweeted about liking Sayori and how he wanted to write a song about a certain character... I guess it's safe to say that this is indeed Sayori's anthem :")
I thought it was obvious that it was a depressing song because of that MV but apparently people though that this was a happy music (maybe only i like to watch the MV's). At least the end was wholesome :)
Plus the melody twists a lot too so i'd imagine that from the vibes of the sounds alone ppl would somewhat get that this song isnt as happy as it initially looks
The Main chorus has an upbeat tone the first time, the second it changes her expression and the sound is more distorted, the last time it's normal then gets faster when the guy is on screen (kinda like a heartbeat) before saying (what can translate to) "I was suspended in the air" or "I was hung mid air"
honestly i kinda guessed the song had darker lyrics before even watching the mv or knowing the lyrics because of the off-beat piano section, turns out i was right.
Lyrics I squinted at the wailing dials I glance at the dial Surely Surely Through the mirror 8 o’clock has come and gone My face goes white Glad nothing has changed Beside the pink Flowerpot’s soaked heart Is an overgrown swollen bud Entangled with it Its so.. Foolish Ahh I’ll turn into a fossil Ahh I want to keep up the act I have to smile Because I don’t really have anything going for me I can’t fill this gaping emptiness If it gets out what do I do? Ahh The neighbor to your right My heart races, head fuzzy (Music) Say, when I fall asleep tonight And open my eyes I can’t find A single reason To get up When the morning comes What exactly, Should I do? I squinted at the wailing dials I glance at the dial Backing up one step at a time “See you tomorrow” I mumbled Relief ended up coming Before any sort of joy Reminiscing, staring at the setting sun Simply passing through these insignificant days Its so unbelievably terrifying Ahh You’ll find out Ahh I want to keep up the act I have to smile Because the things precious to me will break I wish for a happy tomorrow What do I do about this abyss of loneliness? I can’t even scream anymore My heart seizes up, my head shaking (Off key piano) (Short stop) (More off key piano) Ahh, I want to believe that a sky Filled with rainbow is pretty What I yearn for is not being able to run away What everyone finds worthless But there’s nothing to be done about it My heart races, head fuzzy These final days closing in on my side This withered bud It’s so unbelievably filthy So innocent Ahh I’ll turn into a curse Ahh I have to say “I’ve given up” Because in head The static won’t stop I can’t fill this gaping emptiness If it gets out what do I do? Ahh It’s just like she said It’s over Ahh I’ll end up being happy Ahh Losing things is suffering If everything ends up being useless I’ll take my retribution for having loved, so… You’re, so nice… If I cried into your chest, what would I do? What I saw in the end was that kind of dream My heart Hangs in the air. (End)

Me: "Wow this song is so upbeat and happy, i wonder what the lyrics mean." *watches this* Me: "wtf" what is it with happy upbeat vocaloid songs and their lyrics being so sad, im not against it(actually i kinda like it) im just confused.
honestly, i feel like the face given to the vocaloids being all pop star and stuff while being open sourced gives way for talent to vent their frustrations. it hits my emotions every time. (although i'm pretty sure this isn't a vocaloid, just made to sound a bit more discordant due to the static headspace of the person in the song)
@@iiballisticpanda Very true. Honestly, if i knew how to compose in any way i would probably do something like this. Also I learned that KAFU is actually a Cevio. Dont exactly know what that is but yea ig your right.
I'm not sure about what I'm gonna say but I think this has something corrolating about Japanese songs being upbeat (like someone very active and very happy) while having the most depressing lyrics in comparison (like how depressed people are potrayed in music videos like these) TL;DR Diguising sadness with happiness
When I'm a hikikomori, people's anxiety becomes a problem, and sometimes I think about the ups and downs too much and it feels heavy. Love when it's muddy is complicated and rotten. That's why I'm wandering back through my past and present memories. But one day, when he becomes jealous and hates the same person, forgets his true nature and becomes violent, such as committing murder, he naturally feels lighter and does something that is not like himself. Just like the emptiness of a rotting room, people become empty when they slumber.

“私中ぶらりん (watashi chuu burarin)”, the last lyric of the song, i read as “i hang in midair” this song either has several ways to be read, or it was mistranslated in this video, but iyowa definitely picked the lyrics in the end to be about suicide. (you’ll also see this in chogakusei’s cover video. in the end, he hangs himself and disappears.)

Hate to leave another unoriginal comment, but this is absolutely about the cinnamon bun. There's no way it isn't, there are too many coincidences. Parts of this even made me feel uneasy the same way Act 2 did on my first playthrough.
And that completes the holy trinity of Vocaloid songs that are about video games but it's not obvious on the surface. This is about DDLC, Wozwald is probably inspired by Epic Mickey, and I theorize that Melty Land Nightmare is about Portal 2. edit: ok melty land nightmare is NOT about portal 2, harumaki gohan actually has lore lol
@@xxphoenixx8398 *MY TIME HAS COME* aight lyrics first "Unexpectedly, that kind of future… An inherent future… Unexpectedly, it’s a kind of future like that" - That plot twist was DEFINITELY fated to happen in the Portal world. "One, two, three and up, one, two, three It’s about time you got up" - Wheatley wakes Chell up. Obvious. "I’ll know if it’s your astonished face It’s the one you always make after all" - Chell isn't the first test subject he's tried to escape with. There were 5 others. "Welcome to the Melty Land This is a place without a single soul (or two)" - The Melty Land, in this context, is Aperture. Of course there's not a single soul, almost every human is dead! Chell is the only person. Of course, though, since Caroline is inside the mainframe, that makes two souls, hence the "or two". "Welcome to the Melty Land This is a place where only beautiful dreams remain" - Only good robots are left, since GLaDOS is dead. Thus, only beautiful dreams remain. "You have opened the door and chosen the door to my world" - Chell opens the door for him. Enough said. "I’ve been waiting for you since 10 years ago Welcome to the Melty Land" - Ten years is DEFINITELY an understatement, but Wheatley has been waiting for a very long time. "One you can’t help but doubt, this inviolable starry night" - Okay, I've got nothing. Maybe Chell herself is the "starry night"? "My fantasies from long ago are the present you’s daydream" - Wheatley's always fantasized about escaping Aperture. Chell is making those fantasies a reality. "If even time comes to a halt, your nightmare will come into view" - They accidentally woke up GLaDOS, who is the "nightmare". She then knocks out Wheatley - thus, time came to a halt for him. "The usual ‘Good morning’, or our lives’ happy ending" - This time, Wheatley is being woken up, which is why "good morning" is repeated. Their happy ending is escaping, obviously. "If not a single one of our wishes can come true, then" - Wheatley is the Intelligence Dampening Sphere. He's been mentally abused his entire life for something he can't control. Thus, he believed that none of his wishes could come true - that is, until Chell came along. "One you can’t help but doubt, this inviolable starry night" - Chell. "Don’t forget me just for this moment, okay?" - Wheatley gets VEEEEEERY attached to Chell. Of course he wouldn't want her to leave him, she's basically his first ever friend. "Unexpectedly, that kind of future… An inherent future… Unexpectedly, it’s a kind of future like that" - You know this one. "Today makes the 5000th time with you You saw a nightmare again, didn’t you" - Okay, this is basically the only one that doesn't connect to Portal 2. "Did your mother say something to you? Was someone in class cold towards you?" - This one is interesting, because this time, Wheatley isn't referring to Chell - he's referring to *himself.* As I mentioned before, he was mentally abused for a while. Thus, "Did your mother say something to you?" Furthermore, he didn't have any friends thanks to his reputation as "the dumb one". "Papa says that a meteor will fall tomorrow and in a blink of an eye, the world will welcome its end" - Guess who's the meteor? Wheatley! He did horrible things to that facility. So who's Papa? The oracle turret. "I did look forward to it a little I’m done with being Adam’s yes-man" - He says Chell was bossing him around, even though she said absolutely nothing. (Side note: This Adam and Eve metaphor actually supports my theory, because at the beginning of the game, Wheatley tells us to "Say 'Apple'", but we jump. This also explains the bouncing!) "I’ve already been waiting for a thousand years Welcome to the Melty Land" - Still an understatement, but he's been waiting a VERY long time to be called something other than "stupid". "One you can’t help but doubt, an extraordinary dinnertime" - The dinner is the testing euphoria. Remember, Wheatley was addicted to that stuff. Just like how people need to eat, Wheatley needed that high. "Seems like it’ll all melt together, this nightmare of ours" - Yeah, it's basically a nightmare. The incident probably made him traumatized. "Even our names are within this dream, where only glass hearts came into contact" - The "names" are Caroline and Cave. "The usual 'Good morning’, or our lives’ happy ending If not a single one of our wishes can come true, then" - This has a more sinister meaning now. This time, it's only Wheatley's happy ending. And he's making sure that Chell's wishes can't come true. "One you can’t help but doubt, an extraordinary dinner time" - Still same. "Don’t ever forget me for the rest of your life, okay?" - Deep down, Wheatley still loves Chell, the mainframe is just repressing it. That, and he wants her to test for the rest of her life. "It’s melting away… Our fate is melting away" - Their fate was to escape, but the betrayal ruined it, so it's "melting away". (i know this contradicts what i said at the beginning but how about both) "One that might make my heart stop, this lonely girl, filled with innocence, is so pure-hearted that I could cry" - Welp, guess who just got disconnected from the mainframe? Wheats! His heart basically stopped the moment he was thrown off that thing, because he realized how horrible he was. He was probably on the edge of tears in space. "Just a little more of this nightmare" - "It's funny, how we get attached to the struggle." - Guy in Omori OST comments "Even if time comes to a halt," - Imagine how hard he'd hit the ground if he got back to Earth! That would definitely knock him out. "it’ll just be a one-sided selfishness" - "I was bossy, and selfish..." "The 6AM alarm bell will be our time over" - The alarm bell is the turrets. Their song marks Chell's escape. "Even my dry and hollow heart has to breathe, yet" - His heart is dry and hollow because he's a robot. However, it also has to breathe, because he's a sentient robot. "it might make my heart stop, this lonely girl, filled with innocence" - Same as before. "Don’t forget me, even when you’ve awoken, okay?" - He still doesn't want to be forgotten, even if Chell has moved on from Aperture. "I loved you but you’ll wake up Turn into zero, turn into zero I loved you but you’ll forget about me Turn into zero, turn into zero, turn into zero…" - This is basically Wheatley finally accepting that he will likely never see Chell again, and she'll forget about him. Except he never really accepts it, since he was so attached to her and might have even been in love depending on your perspective.
@@xxphoenixx8398 k now pv. Obviously, the pink girl represents Wheatley, and the blue girl represents Chell. Which seems a bit weird, considering their signature colors in the game are the near-exact opposite, but we'll get to that. At the beginning of the MV, we see Pink's eyes, which have meteors reflected in them. This is foreshadowing right off the bat, since we all know what happens to Wheatley at the end of the game. Then, we see a window looking into the Melty Land - Aperture. There's nothing special about this scene, or the scene after. It's just kind of exposition. In the next shot, we see Pink standing over a sleeping Blue, doing her little bouncy bounce. This seems to represent Wheatley watching over the test subjects. Then we see Pink smile at her. This is actually one out of only 2 times we see Pink emote in the entire MV. This is because Wheatley has a habit of bottling up his true emotions. After this, Blue wakes up, which represents… Chell waking up. Then, we see Blue sitting down in Melty Land and looking at a city in the distance. A BLUE city. I feel like the city represents the tests. Why? I think that the color blue represents anything that has to do with testing, and the color pink represents everything else in Aperture. This explains the odd colors - Chell is blue because she's a test subject. There's lots of evidence for this in the later parts of the MV. The next scene shows a pink house. The house is slightly slanted, and the window matches the window at the beginning of the MV. So the house represents Chell's room in the enrichment center, meaning that the window must be the door Chell opened. This is further supported by the blue footprints on the ground in front of it, which I didn't even notice until making this analysis! In the next scene, Pink is sleeping in the castle. This is the only time in the first verse that we see Pink in the castle. Why? I think that the castle represents the mainframe. Castles are generally associated with royalty. The central core, while connected to the mainframe, is the ruler of the facility. This makes GLaDOS the queen. So why was Pink sleeping in the castle in the first verse? GLaDOS, who was connected to the mainframe, knocked Wheatley out. We see Pink dancing around, possibly walking forwards. Then we see Blue standing still in front of us, holding a beating pink heart. I think that Pink has her back to us because we are following Wheatley throughout the first half of Portal 2, and Blue is facing us because we play as Chell. Blue holding a pink heart represents Chell carrying Wheatley. Pink is shown waking (sitting? nah) up in some kind of building, and it's revealed that she's holding a photo of herself and what seems to be her parents. This represents Wheatley waking up, and then remembering why he wants to escape - to finally leave his past of being constantly mentally abused by the people who created him behind. Also, don't the people in that picture look a bit... *familiar?* Then we get a shot of Pink hugging Blue. Wheatley is always trying to help Chell with everything, and assure her that everything will be alright - when in reality, he's the one that needs comforting. Then they hecking explode. This is actually the moment Wheatley betrayed Chell. The explosion represents their friendship breaking thanks to the corruption of the Mainframe. The next scene shows Blue sleeping in a pit. Well, this one is obvious. Chell fell into a bottomless pit (with GLaDOS, but she's completely absent in this MV for some reason). However, it's revealed that Pink is watching over her. Wheatley was watching as Chell fell into the pit. What's really interesting about this scene is that Pink is shown at the same time as the lyrics "Did your mother say something to you? Were your classmates cold towards you?" This is because, as we discussed before, those lyrics are actually referring to Wheatley, not Chell! We then see Pink sitting in the castle, looking at a meteor landing down on a planet. The meteor is blue, and so is the planet. I think that the meteor and planet represent the cube and button that it presses. All of the shooting stars in the background are now blue, too, representing how all Wheatley can think about is testing. Then, we see an apple falling down twice, and Pink looking at it. This represents Wheatley watching tests being completed over and over. We see Pink looking out the window at more pink balls than ever exploding. This represents Wheatley watching as Aperture collapses in front of him, and not doing anything about it. The window represents his monitors. Then we get the same scene from before of Pink sleeping in the castle. This represents Harumaki Gohan reusing animations to make his job easier. The next scene is Blue. Then the apple falling onto Blue, then the apple falling onto a blue background. This whole sequence represents Chell doing old tests that have nothing to do with Wheatley, then her doing Wheatley's test. The apple falling onto nothing is the moment when Wheatley stops getting the testing euphoria. The next scene shows Pink being surrounded by lots of silverware. Since the "dinnertime" is a metaphor for the testing euphoria, the silverware must represent the same thing. Pink standing next to Blue represents Wheatley making Chell test, getting her all caught up in the euphoria thing too. The upside-down version of the scene where Pink wakes up is Wheatley's memories getting corrupted and exaggerated, just like how these lyrics are now more sinister. But then, we have a scene of Pink hugging Blue. This doesn't fit, until you realize how hard Wheatley tried to convince Chell that everything was fine. It most definitely was not. Then we get an instrumental break. The first scene is just Pink vibing. Then a low, bassy sound plays, and we see a window with LOTS of explosions on the other side. This is basically a 10-second synopsis of the story so far. Then, we see Blue sleeping alone, with the forks and spoons around her. This represents how Chell is now totally alone, since I doubt she still considers GLaDOS a friend. I'm not actually too sure about this one, though. We get another Blue-centric scene. And she's smiling. Not a "haha you suck" smile, though, a *genuine* smile. This represents Wheatley finally seeing Chell for who she really is again, after being disconnected from the mainframe. Pink then is seen grabbing onto her hair. This is probably the most obvious scene in the whole MV - Chell and Wheatley holding onto each other for dear life. The next scene represents Harumaki Gohan reusing animation to make his job easier. This part of the comment represents me reusing jokes to make my job easier. Then we see Pink holding a photo again, except it's upright, and of a pink heart. The memory of the abusive scientists is now joined by the memory of his time with Chell. We are shown Blue looking out at the Melty Land one last time, before disappearing. Chell has finally left Aperture for good. We see the same scene as the beginning of Pink's eyes, but this time, she closes them and cries. Turns out, we weren't seeing the whole thing at the beginning - that was actually the *last* scene being shown to us early. This explains the meteors in Pink's eyes - Wheatley was already in space. Finally, we see the Melty Land completely empty. Chell and Wheatley have both finally left Aperture forever… in completely different ways. You're probably wondering, "Okay, but why would Harumaki Gohan write a song about Portal 2 of all things?". Well, you have to remember this this is HARUMAKI GOHAN we're talking about. He LOVES stories about two extremely close friends being separated by an outside force and missing each other a lot, and also robots. Futarino proves this. So there's no way Portal 2 would go under his radar! Heck, Pink's turtleneck resembles the turtleneck often seen in human Wheatley designs. (Side note: I have no idea if this counts, but there's a LOT of English in this song. Portal 2 was originally in English. This could just be Harumaki Gohan's style though, seeing as how Seventina exists.) And also, Iyowa helped with the Third Heart MV. Why is this important? Well, Iyowa is currently doing the same thing but with DDLC! The difference is that Iyowa got caught the second Kyu-kurarin came out lol
@@nakoamechi I actually revised the lyrics analysis a bit ago lol (even though i recently learned the Harumaki Gohan Lore™ it's still a fun theory), i'll just throw it here for good measure "Unexpectedly, that kind of future… An inherent future… Unexpectedly, it's a kind of future like that" - Plot twists are called plot TWISTS for a reason. “One, two, and up, one, two, three, it’s about time you got up” - A very obvious one, Wheatley wakes Chell up at the beginning of the game. “I’d know if it was your astonished face, it’s the one you always make, after all” - He knows what Chell will look like when she sees him because Chell isn’t the first test subject he tried to escape with. There were 5 others. “(Welcome to the Melty Land) This is a place without a single soul (or two)” - The Melty Land is Aperture. Of course there’s not a single soul, almost everyone is dead! Chell is the only person, or the only one with a real soul. Or not. The “or two” is likely referring to Doug Rattmann. “(Welcome to the Melty Land) This is a place where only beautiful dreams remain” - The “dreams” are the robots. Since GLaDOS has been killed, only good robots are left, or “beautiful dreams.” “You have opened the door, and chosen the door to my world” - Chell opens the door for Wheatley, which was a door to Aperture - Wheatley’s world. “I’ve been waiting for you for a decade (Welcome to the Melty Land)” - Okay, that is DEFINITELY an understatement, but he has been waiting to escape for… quite some time. (350~ years?) “One you can’t help but doubt - this inviolable starry night” - According to Oxford, the definition of inviolable is “free or safe from injury or violation”. Wheatley sees Chell as an invincible person who can do anything (he's kinda not wrong tbh), making her fit that definition. Thus, Chell is the “starry night”. Wheatley can’t help but doubt it for multiple reasons - he’s finally escaping, Chell is pretty much invincible, and nobody’s ever been not mean to him before. My fantasies from long ago are the present you’s daydream” - Wheatley’s fantasy has been to escape for a long time now. Chell is making those fantasies a reality, as she has the same goals and is very determined to carry them out. “If even time would come to a halt, I’d begin to see your nightmare” - GLaDOS crushed him, leaving him unconscious. Thus, time came to a halt for him. After this, the game really kicks off. “The usual good morning, or life’s happy ending” - “Good morning” not only represents Chell, but also Wheatley waking up from literally almost dying. The happy ending is escaping Aperture. “If not a single one of our wishes can come true, then” - Wheatley thought that none of his dreams and wishes could come true - that is, until Chell came along. So pretty much the same thing as “my fantasies from long ago…”. But there’s still a chance that things might not work out as planned… “One that you can’t help but doubt - this inviolable starry night” - repeat “Don’t forget me just for this moment, okay?” - Wheatley doesn’t want Chell to forget about him or abandon him due to his abandonment issues. In fact, he actually panics for a bit if you start to walk away. “Today makes the 5,000th time with you” - Betrayal time, yay depression! This represents Chell testing OVER and OVER because the mainframe is a literal drug dealer, and Wheatley is its #1 customer. “You just saw another nightmare, didn’t you?” - Key word: ANOTHER. GLaDOS’ tests were the first nightmare, Wheatley’s are the second. Chell has to do this shoot all over again. “Did your mother say something to you? Were your classmates cold towards you?” - So these lines are actually referring to Wheatley. This poor guy was mentally abused by the scientists, the people that created him - thus, mother. The classmates are the other robots, since who wants to be friends with the greatest moron who ever lived? “Papa said that a meteor would fall tomorrow, and in the blink of an eye, the world will welcome its end” - “Papa” is the oracle turret. He says that a meteor will fall and the world will welcome its end. That meteor is Wheatley, and his addiction to testing. He destroyed Aperture to the point where it could definitely be considered an apocalypse. “I did look forward to it a little, I’m done with being Adam’s yes-man” - A yes-man is a person who follows all of another person’s orders. Now think of what Wheatley said to Chell during his betrayal. This single lyric is essentially his entire corrupted mindset. This is also the most important lyric in the entire theory. That’s because it doesn’t fit into any other major theory! Think about it - would an imaginary friend say this to her host? Or would a literal fetus say this to her teenage mother? I don’t think so. And about the Adam and Eve thing, Eve eats an apple that corrupts her. That’s… pretty much what happened to Wheatley, making Chell Adam and Wheatley Eve in this metaphor. “I’ve already been waiting for 1,000 years” - He’s been waiting a long time to be called anything other than “stupid”. “One you can’t help but doubt - this extraordinary dinnertime” - “Dinnertime” is a metaphor for addiction. Just like how people need to eat, Wheatley needed that high. The testing euphoria is the dinner, and so whenever a test is completed, it can be described as “dinnertime”. “Seems like it’ll all melt together, this nightmare of ours” - He may not realize it yet, but Wheatley is going through a nightmare himself as well… “Even our names are within this dream, where only glass hearts come into contact” - A glass heart is a heart that breaks easily. Aka EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER IN THIS GAME. Even if they don’t show it. “The usual good morning, or life’s happy ending, if not a single one of our dreams can come true, then” - Not a simple repeat, actually! In fact, this line carries a much more sinister meaning than before. Because now, this is only WHEATLEY’s happy ending. And he’s going to make sure that Chell never gets hers. “One that you can’t help but doubt - this extraordinary dinnertime” - drugs “Make sure you never forget me for the rest of your life, okay?” - Wheatley wants Chell to test for the rest of her life. “It’s melting away… Our fate… It’s melting away…” - Their fate was to escape. …WAS. “One that might make my heart stop - this innocent, lonely girl is so purehearted that I could cry” - Wheatley just got unplugged from the mainframe. He suddenly remembered Chell’s true nature - a good person who only wanted the best for him (well, at least that’s how he saw her). So his heart stopped the second he was torn away from that thing. “Just a little more of this nightmare” - If it means being with Chell, he’d gladly go back to Aperture. “Even if time were to come to a halt, it’d just be a one sided selfishness” - “I was bossy, and selfish…” “The 6 AM alarm bell will be our time-over” - The alarm bell is the turret orchestra. “Even my dry and hollow heart has to breathe, and yet…” - His heart is dry and hollow because he’s a robot. However, it has to breathe because he’s a SENTIENT robot. (WHY, APERTURE!?) “One that might make my heart stop - this innocent, lonely girl” - a “Even when you’ve awoken, don’t forget me, okay?” - “Waking up” is leaving Aperture. “I loved you, but you’ll wake up… Turn to zero, turn to zero… I loved you, but you’ll forget about me…” - This is Wheatley accepting that, no matter how much he loved her, Chell will most likely leave her past at Aperture - and Wheatley - behind. So all he can do is wish her well.

“If I had a penny for every vocaloid song that sounded happy but was actually incredibly sad I’d have too many to count which is a lot and is incredibly concerning”
Vocaloid artists are so very talented, but hell if they concern me.

It’s interesting to see people say it sounds like a happy song. I mean…. It is definitely trying to give you that impression. But…. It sounds like the song is about to fall in on itself any second like the girl in the song who is trying so hard to hold it together. It’s genuinely heartbreaking…..
I remember thinking that multiple times while listening to it, and I always thought it was weird. Guess I know the reason now. :)
I've commented on the original video abt how this song reminds me of Sayori from ddlc, and someone pointed out that Iyowa once tweeted about liking Sayori and how he wanted to write a song about a certain character... I guess it's safe to say that this is indeed Sayori's anthem :")

@@tsukodome6132 Oh shit ure right i just noticed. Dang
Plus the end with her hugging the guy. Looks like the scene when she confesses!
Also the one of the lyrics said,
"It's like she said,

Might be Monika telling Sayori to off her self.
ruclips.net/video/oigPc9bnr-c/видео.html Luckily for you someone did a MV w/ Sayori from ddlc!
MY JAW DROPPED AT THE SAYORI REFERENCES
I thought it was obvious that it was a depressing song because of that MV but apparently people though that this was a happy music (maybe only i like to watch the MV's). At least the end was wholesome :)
“what i saw in the end was that kind of dream”
「私中ぶらりん, watashi chuu burarin」more accurately -> “i hang in midair”
_ehhh i wouldn’t be so sureee_
Plus the melody twists a lot too so i'd imagine that from the vibes of the sounds alone ppl would somewhat get that this song isnt as happy as it initially looks
The Main chorus has an upbeat tone the first time, the second it changes her expression and the sound is more distorted, the last time it's normal then gets faster when the guy is on screen (kinda like a heartbeat) before saying (what can translate to) "I was suspended in the air" or "I was hung mid air"
I'm like 80% sure her getting "hugged" is actually her hanging herself based off the lyrics
@@Dstryrr yeah i rewatched it while reading the lyrics and i realized;-;
Yet another case of "When the depression is chronic but the beat is ironic."

Lyrics
I squinted at the wailing dials
I glance at the dial
Surely
Surely
Through the mirror
8 o’clock has come and gone
My face goes white
Glad nothing has changed
Beside the pink
Flowerpot’s soaked heart
Is an overgrown swollen bud
Entangled with it
Its so..
Foolish
Ahh
I’ll turn into a fossil
Ahh
I want to keep up the act
I have to smile
Because I don’t really have anything going for me
I can’t fill this gaping emptiness
If it gets out what do I do?
Ahh
The neighbor to your right
My heart races, head fuzzy
(Music)
Say, when I fall asleep tonight
And open my eyes
I can’t find
A single reason
To get up
When the morning comes
What exactly,
Should I do?
I squinted at the wailing dials
I glance at the dial
Backing up one step at a time
“See you tomorrow” I mumbled
Relief ended up coming
Before any sort of joy
Reminiscing, staring at the setting sun
Simply passing through these insignificant days
Its so unbelievably terrifying
Ahh
You’ll find out
Ahh
I want to keep up the act
I have to smile
Because the things precious to me will break
I wish for a happy tomorrow
What do I do about this abyss of loneliness?
I can’t even scream anymore
My heart seizes up, my head shaking
(Off key piano)
(Short stop)
(More off key piano)
Ahh, I want to believe that a sky
Filled with rainbow is pretty
What I yearn for is not being able to run away
What everyone finds worthless
But there’s nothing to be done about it
My heart races, head fuzzy
These final days closing in on my side
This withered bud
It’s so unbelievably filthy
So innocent
Ahh
I’ll turn into a curse
Ahh
I have to say
“I’ve given up”
Because in head
The static won’t stop
I can’t fill this gaping emptiness If it gets out what do I do?
Ahh
It’s just like she said
It’s over
Ahh
I’ll end up being happy
Ahh
Losing things is suffering
If everything ends up being useless
I’ll take my retribution for having loved, so…
You’re,
so nice…
If I cried into your chest,
what would I do?
What I saw in the end was that kind of dream
My heart
Hangs in the air.

just came across this song and was hoping for an eng sub. thanks for this!!!
hello sunny
Tbh i'm just happy for having another 3+ min Kafu song bc most producers only made 2 or less minutes songs for Kafu...

Get out of my head before I show you how much I love you
Get out of my head before I finish this poem.
I love iyowa!! I’d love a mercy killing translation if the opportunity ever presents itself
Thanks for the TL! This song is much sadder than I thought.
this song is 100% about sayori
Me: "Wow this song is so upbeat and happy, i wonder what the lyrics mean."
*watches this*
Me: "wtf"
what is it with happy upbeat vocaloid songs and their lyrics being so sad, im not against it(actually i kinda like it) im just confused.
honestly, i feel like the face given to the vocaloids being all pop star and stuff while being open sourced gives way for talent to vent their frustrations. it hits my emotions every time.
I'm not sure about what I'm gonna say but I think this has something corrolating about Japanese songs being upbeat (like someone very active and very happy) while having the most depressing lyrics in comparison (like how depressed people are potrayed in music videos like these)
TL;DR Diguising sadness with happiness

When I'm a hikikomori, people's anxiety becomes a problem, and sometimes I think about the ups and downs too much and it feels heavy. Love when it's muddy is complicated and rotten. That's why I'm wandering back through my past and present memories. But one day, when he becomes jealous and hates the same person, forgets his true nature and becomes violent, such as committing murder, he naturally feels lighter and does something that is not like himself. Just like the emptiness of a rotting room, people become empty when they slumber.

cmon guys at least the end is still happy ...right?
no, she's dreaming. She wakes up at the end. Its all a "what if"
“私中ぶらりん (watashi chuu burarin)”, the last lyric of the song, i read as “i hang in midair”
this song either has several ways to be read, or it was mistranslated in this video, but iyowa definitely picked the lyrics in the end to be about suicide.
(you’ll also see this in chogakusei’s cover video. in the end, he hangs himself and disappears.)
i believe the dream was some kind of dream before death, or a yearning for how things could have been.
Yeah but the Sayori version isn't.

Is the idea is that she found someone who cares for her at the end?
no, its a dream. She wakes up at the end.
i assume it’s a dream she saw before death. the last lyric can also be read as “i hang in the air”, which is the only thing i can see it as.
In 0:14 I notice it was soug not song which btw soug means sad in French 1:41 she looks like she hanging her self 3:06 she looks like she forcing her cheeks to smlie but she’s up side down so it looks like she’s just looks like her smlie is up side down 3:33 ddlc?

Hate to leave another unoriginal comment, but this is absolutely about the cinnamon bun. There's no way it isn't, there are too many coincidences. Parts of this even made me feel uneasy the same way Act 2 did on my first playthrough.

And that completes the holy trinity of Vocaloid songs that are about video games but it's not obvious on the surface. This is about DDLC, Wozwald is probably inspired by Epic Mickey, and I theorize that Melty Land Nightmare is about Portal 2.

@@xxphoenixx8398 *MY TIME HAS COME*
aight lyrics first
"Unexpectedly, that kind of future… An inherent future… Unexpectedly, it’s a kind of future like that" - That plot twist was DEFINITELY fated to happen in the Portal world.
"One, two, three and up, one, two, three
It’s about time you got up" - Wheatley wakes Chell up. Obvious.
"I’ll know if it’s your astonished face
It’s the one you always make after all" - Chell isn't the first test subject he's tried to escape with. There were 5 others.
"Welcome to the Melty Land
This is a place without a single soul (or two)" - The Melty Land, in this context, is Aperture. Of course there's not a single soul, almost every human is dead! Chell is the only person. Of course, though, since Caroline is inside the mainframe, that makes two souls, hence the "or two".
"Welcome to the Melty Land
This is a place where only beautiful dreams remain" - Only good robots are left, since GLaDOS is dead. Thus, only beautiful dreams remain.
"You have opened the door
and chosen the door to my world" - Chell opens the door for him. Enough said.
"I’ve been waiting for you since 10 years ago
Welcome to the Melty Land" - Ten years is DEFINITELY an understatement, but Wheatley has been waiting for a very long time.
"One you can’t help but doubt,
this inviolable starry night" - Okay, I've got nothing. Maybe Chell herself is the "starry night"?
"My fantasies from long ago
are the present you’s daydream" - Wheatley's always fantasized about escaping Aperture. Chell is making those fantasies a reality.
"If even time comes to a halt,
your nightmare will come into view" - They accidentally woke up GLaDOS, who is the "nightmare". She then knocks out Wheatley - thus, time came to a halt for him.
"The usual ‘Good morning’,
or our lives’ happy ending" - This time, Wheatley is being woken up, which is why "good morning" is repeated.
"One you can’t help but doubt,
this inviolable starry night" - Chell.
"Don’t forget me just for this moment, okay?" - Wheatley gets VEEEEEERY attached to Chell. Of course he wouldn't want her to leave him, she's basically his first ever friend.
"Unexpectedly, that kind of future…
An inherent future…
Unexpectedly, it’s a kind of future like that" - You know this one.
"Today makes the 5000th time with you
You saw a nightmare again, didn’t you" - Okay, this is basically the only one that doesn't connect to Portal 2.
"Papa says that a meteor will fall tomorrow and
in a blink of an eye, the world will welcome its end" - Guess who's the meteor? Wheatley! He did horrible things to that facility. So who's Papa? The oracle turret.
"I did look forward to it a little
I’m done with being Adam’s yes-man" - He says Chell was bossing him around, even though she said absolutely nothing. (Side note: This Adam and Eve metaphor actually supports my theory, because at the beginning of the game, Wheatley tells us to "Say 'Apple'", but we jump. This also explains the bouncing!)
"I’ve already been waiting for a thousand years
Welcome to the Melty Land" - Still an understatement, but he's been waiting a VERY long time to be called something other than "stupid".
"One you can’t help but doubt,
an extraordinary dinnertime" - The dinner is the testing euphoria. Remember, Wheatley was addicted to that stuff. Just like how people need to eat, Wheatley needed that high.
"Seems like it’ll all melt together,
this nightmare of ours" - Yeah, it's basically a nightmare. The incident probably made him traumatized.
"Even our names are within this dream,
where only glass hearts came into contact" - The "names" are Caroline and Cave.
"The usual 'Good morning’,
or our lives’ happy ending
If not a single one of our wishes can come true, then" - This has a more sinister meaning now. This time, it's only Wheatley's happy ending. And he's making sure that Chell's wishes can't come true.
"One you can’t help but doubt,
an extraordinary dinner time" - Still same.
"Don’t ever forget me for the rest of your life, okay?" - Deep down, Wheatley still loves Chell, the mainframe is just repressing it. That, and he wants her to test for the rest of her life.
"It’s melting away…
Our fate is melting away" - Their fate was to escape, but the betrayal ruined it, so it's "melting away". (i know this contradicts what i said at the beginning but how about both)
"One that might make my heart stop,
this lonely girl, filled with innocence,
is so pure-hearted that I could cry" - Welp, guess who just got disconnected from the mainframe? Wheats! His heart basically stopped the moment he was thrown off that thing, because he realized how horrible he was. He was probably on the edge of tears in space.
"Just a little more of this nightmare" - "It's funny, how we get attached to the struggle." - Guy in Omori OST comments
"Even if time comes to a halt," - Imagine how hard he'd hit the ground if he got back to Earth! That would definitely knock him out.
"it’ll just be a one-sided selfishness" - "I was bossy, and selfish..."
"The 6AM alarm bell
will be our time over" - The alarm bell is the turrets. Their song marks Chell's escape.
"Even my dry and hollow heart has to breathe, yet" - His heart is dry and hollow because he's a robot. However, it also has to breathe, because he's a sentient robot.
"it might make my heart stop,
this lonely girl, filled with innocence" - Same as before.
"Don’t forget me, even when you’ve awoken, okay?" - He still doesn't want to be forgotten, even if Chell has moved on from Aperture.
"I loved you but you’ll wake up
Turn into zero, turn into zero
I loved you but you’ll forget about me
Turn into zero, turn into zero, turn into zero…" - This is basically Wheatley finally accepting that he will likely never see Chell again, and she'll forget about him.
*familiar?*
Then we get a shot of Pink hugging Blue.
This could just be Harumaki Gohan's style though, seeing as how Seventina exists.)
And also, Iyowa helped with the Third Heart MV. Why is this important? Well, Iyowa is currently doing the same thing but with DDLC! The difference is that Iyowa got caught the second Kyu-kurarin came out lol
@@amethyst4578 Holy shit. I just ascended reading all of that.
@@nakoamechi I actually revised the lyrics analysis a bit ago lol (even though i recently learned the Harumaki Gohan Lore™ it's still a fun theory), i'll just throw it here for good measure
"Unexpectedly, that kind of future… An inherent future… Unexpectedly, it's a kind of future like that" - Plot twists are called plot TWISTS for a reason.
Since GLaDOS has been killed, only good robots are left, or “beautiful dreams.”
“You have opened the door, and chosen the door to my world” - Chell opens the door for Wheatley, which was a door to Aperture - Wheatley’s world.
“I’ve been waiting for you for a decade (Welcome to the Melty Land)” - Okay, that is DEFINITELY an understatement, but he has been waiting to escape for… quite some time. (350~ years?)
“One you can’t help but doubt - this inviolable starry night” - According to Oxford, the definition of inviolable is “free or safe from injury or violation”.
But there’s still a chance that things might not work out as planned…
“One that you can’t help but doubt - this inviolable starry night” - repeat
“Don’t forget me just for this moment, okay?” - Wheatley doesn’t want Chell to forget about him or abandon him due to his abandonment issues.
“Seems like it’ll all melt together, this nightmare of ours” - He may not realize it yet, but Wheatley is going through a nightmare himself as well…
“Even our names are within this dream, where only glass hearts come into contact” - A glass heart is a heart that breaks easily.
“One that you can’t help but doubt - this extraordinary dinnertime” - drugs
“Make sure you never forget me for the rest of your life, okay?” - Wheatley wants Chell to test for the rest of her life.
“Even if time were to come to a halt, it’d just be a one sided selfishness” - “I was bossy, and selfish…”
“The 6 AM alarm bell will be our time-over” - The alarm bell is the turret orchestra.
“Even my dry and hollow heart has to breathe, and yet…” - His heart is dry and hollow because he’s a robot. However, it has to breathe because he’s a SENTIENT robot. (WHY, APERTURE!?)
“One that might make my heart stop - this innocent, lonely girl” - a
“Even when you’ve awoken, don’t forget me, okay?” - “Waking up” is leaving Aperture.
