    Funny you should say the Battletoads was crafted by a mastermind of mischief. The head programmer, Mark Betteridge, according to an interview by various Rare employees, was a seriously good gamer, and essentially set the game to his skill level. It is said that by the time he stopped tweaking the game, he was the only one at Rare who could beat it, and many people believe that’s why the two player Clinger Winger bug wasn’t fixed in time.

    You forgot Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight. Don't let the title fool you, this game is NOT a 2D fighter. It's an action platformer and the only thing it has in common with the Street Fighter franchise is your character is Ken, and there's a mention of Ken when he was in the Street Fighter circuit. This game is BALLS HARD! And now that it's been officially released on the NES by Retro-Bit, you forgot Holy Diver. That game is a game for masochists.

    In my opinion, BattleToads is the hardest. Turbo Tunnel, Rat Race and the Bain of my existence: Clinger Wringer. Easily the hardest.

    Milon''s Secret Castle! Early NES Confusing Hard. If you didn't have Nintendo Power back in the day, you wouldn't even know how to get the first boss to appear, unless you happened to accidentally reveal one of the hidden shops that contain the shoes for purchase (they're cheaper in the second room's shop). If you happened to do this, you might not even realize that was the trigger for the boss. Did you figure out how the continue system works? Oh, where, oh, where do I shoot to trigger the Hudson Bee? I need that shield! Hints are maddeningly vague, and some of the icons for the things you get can be confused for something else that was described in the hint. Oh, and no invincibility frames, so those overlapping enemy patters will get you dead fast. Get yourself a couple of different walkthroughs, because even experienced gamers miss things.

    With the exception of the final boss, all of the bosses in Fester's Quest can be beaten by selecting a key from the item menu and then tapping the button to use the key while walking around the room. The final boss can be beaten by standing in a safe spot in the room between his "laser" blasts and then using the homing missiles until he is dead.

    A list clearly made by people that never played these games but did some googling. Castlevania 3 is a million times tougher than the original. Battletoads is a million times tougher than Ghosts n Goblins. And Mega Man 1 isn't the toughest game in that series. and Festers Quest? I mean did you just watch AVGN to make this list?

    • @Tinnsfr
      @Tinnsfr 6 месяцев назад

      What would you say the toughest megaman game is? 1 is pretty dang brutal even with only 6 robot masters. But megaman has a password system so it really shouldn't be on this list at all imo

    • @gd.cc3

      WHILE I would say Fester’s Quest is a royal pain, it’s doable once you have a decent arsenal of weaponary. Mega Man 3 is definitely the most difficult on the NES and Castlevania 3 is horrifying. But Ghosts ‘n Goblins is super difficult though, like the final stage is nearly impossible.
      The hardest NES games for me personally is Kickle Cubicle, Track and Field II (it is no joke!!), The Adventures of Bayou Billy and Gradius.

    Good list! I actually don't think I've ever beaten Mega Man 1 without the pause trick on the Yellow Devil. There are a lot challenging NES games. I think I've only beaten about a dozen NES games. Though, I do appreciate the challenge of many NES games.
    In many of these early games, you really have to learn the intricacies of each game to slowly build up your skill. It can be very rewarding to finally see the credits in many of these games...unless you pulled out all of your hair in frustration!

  • @SlayerRunefrost

    There's a couple of games on here that don't belong. Fester's Quest, Bayou Billy, Top Gun and to an extent Silver Surfer. I say they don't belong because they're only difficult due to poor game design and not actually "challenge". Zelda 2 should definitely get one of their spots. Also, imo, Castlevania 1 is harder than 3 and Battletoads is WAY harder than Ghosts-n-Goblins.

    • @one7decimal2eight
      @one7decimal2eight Год назад

      Exactly. That's like saying deadly towers is difficult when in fact it hampers you from the beginning with no maps, hardly any health and no clear objective besides find the bells and burn them.

  • @Avertan221
    @Avertan221 Год назад

    A much lesser known game i would add as one of the hardest (but i never see on these lists) is dragon power. That game is insanely difficult. Ive beaten all the games on this list, but I never even came close to beating dragon power. The entire game, your health is constantly deplenishing, even while walking around, so you must find ways to restore it. If you get hit, it significantly drops your health.

    Seeing that refueling bit on Top Gun gave me horrifying flashbacks of my childhood and hours-long marathons failing miserably at that game. Switching, ironically enough, to TMNT if i got tired of top gun.
    Both excellent games with gameplay that is almost like you're in the movie! (Sarcasm... Nothing even remotely resembling the movie version of the IP appears in either title).

    Still better than my awful/painful GTA PS2 experience (Especially GTA III) where i had endless amount of problems such as NPC's only listening whenever they feel like it, Dying sooooo many times just to see the lovely "Wasted!" on my screen, Failing a mission in such a bullshit and very unfair way, Cars getting flipped over, A cheat doesn't work at random for no reason even when i typed it right to a goddamn fucking T, Gangs shoot you for no reason, Mods don't work and either nothing happens or the game crashes. Oh i could go on and write a book about on how these games caused me severe anger issues as a teenager at 13-15.

    The real trick was for a game to be Nintendo Hard (TM), but still worth playing. Many of these games just... weren't. Silver Surfer and Bayou Billy were just plain bad, for instance. Castlevania III, Battle Toads, Ninja Gaiden, and Mega Man, though, were awesome. Heck, I even managed to beat Mega Man and Ninja Gaiden... Superhard, but totally worth it.

      Wait... do you... do you think that the idea of Silver Surfer and Bayou Billy being crap games is a NEW thing? FFS, Bayou Billy came out in the US in 1989. That's six freaking YEARS before RUclips was even a thing! That's also the year I rented it from Blockbuster and found out it was TERRIBLE.
      My brother, my opinions of these games not only predates RUclips, I'm willing to lay odds that they probably predate YOU. I've been playing video games since 1980, son. Have a seat.

      It's hard to argue with your opinion. The arcade version, "Wonderboy," is brutal. I always die at the same spot and am not sure what I'm doing wrong. There were so many brutal games for the NES that there's bound to be some titles left off a top-ten list that some of us grew up with and found frustratingly difficult.
