During ancient times, Gopalpur served as an important port for the seafarers of ancient Kalinga. Even during the World War -I, it was an important military port where soldiers used to embark on a journey to Burma.
Gopalpur was the place where the first ever modern hotel was built in Odisha and probably the first ever beach resort of the country. The Palm Beach Resort was built in 1914 by an Italian gentleman by the name of Signor Maglioni to cater to the merchants and businessmen. The hotel was bought by the Oberoi group of hotels in 1948 in what was the group’s first venture into the hospitality business. Currently the hotel is owned by the Mayfair Group of Hotels.
The casuarina groves that line up the sun kissed beach makes for enchanting sight. The beach is mostly secluded and one of the cleanest beaches in the country.
Gopalpur is the most attractive tourist places in Odisha. There is a beautiful and clean sea beach in Gopalpur. most of the tourist bath in sea water. We visit Gopalpur along with Daringbadi. Brahmapur is the nearest railway station of Gopalpur. So many train halts Brahmapur. Tourist places in Gopalpur is Rambha, where Chilika Lake situated. You can tour Chilika Lake by boating. Tampara Lake is also a tourist place, you can tour on this lake by boating. Also Taratarini Temple situated in this place. The temple situated on the top of hill. Viewing from the top is outstanding. HOW TO REACH GOPALPUR -
Gopalpur can be reached in 3 ways - by Railways, Roadways, and Airways.
By Railways: The nearest station is Behrampur, situated approximately 16 Kms away. A private vehicle & Auto easily takes you to there within 40 minutes .
By Roadway: From Bhubaneswar, this place is 170 KMS and frequently connected by bus services or you can hire private vehicles as well.
By Airways: Biju Patnaik airport is the nearest one. The distance between the two is 170 KMS and takes around 3 hours 30 minutes by a private vehicle.
There are so many train reaches at Brahmapur from Howrah. No train available from Sealdah.
