This was a very fun, heartwarming video to watch! I made sure to follow along on StreetView whenever you said anything was different, to see if any old pictures showed off what you were used to. Turns out a lot of your memories can still be viewed that way, so give it a look if you haven't already! Now at my mere 21 years, still living with my parents in my childhood home, I don't know the feeling that comes with going back "home" and reliving it all. I am, however, sure that it is a great feeling that I will want to experience in the future. I did have a little bit of it a couple months ago when I happened to be walking near my old high school, so I decided to stop by for a visit. Although the school was closed that day, I was able to get a bit of a look into the large windows of my old biology classroom. That feeling alone was so amazing, and I was smiling the whole way as I walked around the area (where a new neighborhood had been built), toward the bus stop I used to always catch the bus from. And of course, I did catch the bus from there again, looking out the window the entire time to relive these times that are quite far behind me at this point. I also completely agree with the part at the end, where you said everyone carries their own home with them in their hearts at all times. I myself sure do! It's a little saddening to say that you won't be covering my home as I live in the Netherlands, but if it had been that way, I'm sure I would have left a gigantic wall of a comment on that video to tell you all kinds of stories about where I grew up.
Saxilby is also my Birthplace. I was born a White House on Church Lane. On the same corner of Brackenbury Lane. This being 1967. I located the place in 2011. I think it has sadly gone now. My maternal Grandparents were living there. Sadly I didn't live in Saxilby. I applied for a job on the Railway in Lincoln. The plan was to hopefully move to Saxilby.
Great video Andy. I spent my first 18 years in Saxilby (the Anglers Hotel). It's nice to see this particular episode, Andy. The last time I popped back, I passed Mr and Mrs Vickers doing their garden a few doors down from the school-he looks almost the same!
@@TheVillageIdiot He was the same but grey-haired! I plan to have a very similar wander around the village to the one you did in a month or two. The large house next to the Village Hall was an infant school (I went there) then they build what is now Saxilby school (I went there the day it opened) then we finished off at the school next to the church before going to either Gainsborough or Sturton.
Thanks! I have one of Torksey too Barry, as well as the other ones that border it like Brampton, Fenton and Hardwick. In fact, everything around Torksey for a good 15 miles is complete
The Chinese takeaway used to be a branch of the Midland Bank. What is now a nursery next to the old library on Highfield road, was the GP surgery in the 70’s and 80’s.
Great video, Andy. Apologies from Saxilby History Group that we had failed to put History Trail leaflets in the holder. Apart from a few historical errors, you did OK!
Thank you! And no worries, I had history on my side anyway as a former resident, so not a big thing with the leaflets. This one was much more of a personal video that usual, has to be said :D
It was yes! That;s where he lived. I remember him moving to the Co-Op, mind you I was really young when he did/ I briefly worked for him when I was 17-18 ish, earning money for driving lessons :D
The "Rec" is still the "Rec" and we are about to get a multi-use games area built to replace your beloved walled basketball court. The thing being built next to that currently is a new skate park.
Sadly, there is no longer any cricket played as the club was disbanded. However they are retaining the cricket square and hopefully there will be a resurrection of the cricket team!

Thanks for posting this it brought back great memories of the time we lived there. We were at 3 West Bank from 72-76 happy days.
Agreed, Trev's chippy was the best. Loved his chickwiches!

Genuinely had to look up where Brackenbury Road is. Brand new, built since I made this!

They must be knocking on a bit now. I mean I'm nearly 40, so its almost 30 years since they were my teachers

Great video, I know saxilby well. Both my parents come from there and it's a special place anyway. Proud redbourne and kirton citizen!
It's so different now to how it was when I grew up there

The shop at the end of Skirbeck drive was the Co-op, then later a hairdressers.
Ahhhhh yes i recall now. The Co-Op moved to where it is now FROM there

Fancy doing north Kesteven district next?
East Lindsey after West Lindsey. NK long way off
The factory at Canal court was originally Rose Bearings. Canal court is fairly new and a factory building was still there in 2012.
Yeah thats right. Rose Bearings had a factory down Long Leys Lane in Lincoln too. My cousin John worked for them
As the current resident of the old pharmacy.... you missed a blue plaque haha. Its at the end of that wall you spoke about. Nice video bud.
Thanks for the info!
Alan Popham has retired, and his butcher shop was originally opposite the church, on church lane.
