I know it needed a nerf but almost half the dps?? No. Bad move. 17:20 he has a good point though, before the nerf people relied on the gatling gun so much so that when it got reworked, everyone had to start strategizing and thinking more into their loadouts. TDS is a game about strategy and when you have an OP tower like gatling, it takes that aspect out of the game.
Now, even though I don’t have it, i understand why it got 300 of its dps removed. A tower dealing 1000 dps is crazy since it can just destroy everything in its path with no issue. And with some buffs like commander, it’s even more insane. But I am still sad seeing it get nerfed since I just got Mercenary Base at Level 150.
7 REGULAR max mini gunners put out 1.1k dps for 189k in cash. Gattling literally has never been a single target dps tower. It just got blown out of proportion because of its 1 placement limit and high peirce dps
Tbh, they should've made the non fps mode better thanks to the damage nerf, and shouldn't of increased it's price since they already made the damage worse, I could be wrong though, I never really used Gatling Gun even though I have it, I just found it to be kinda annoying to have to constantly control it and find good placements for it, but it should be strong, It's like the most endgame tower you can buy, along with it's insane pricetag, high level requirement, and not to mention the placement limit one one... The nerf was kinda understandable, but they shouldn't of made it ALL negatives, there should've been some decent positives too, like a "re-balance" that's still a nerf, but not just a nerf For example they could've done something like: 1) Added a single level of pierce for the non fps mode 2) Increase the angles for the non fps mode, instead of decreasing them- 3) Adding a Heat Vision mode, to fix the issue with maps with lots of walls making it hard to see enemies I don't think people would've complained as much if they improved it in other areas, for the dmg nerf, assuming these were added the increased price would also make more sense.
Personally, when I had the option to buy Gatling or save up like 5000 coins for my third gold crate, I chose the gold crate, because I probably couldn't handle managing the first person mode and placing other towers to help, and so now that it's nerfed, I probably wont' even bother getting it tbh, even though I probably wouldn't have used it often when it was overpowered anyways
This is a horrible nerf, whether you agree or not. The nerfs are so generic the upgrade costs being increased was pretty obvious and it makes sense but this tower now literally does like 100 more dps than turret while costing 200k. They should've really nerfed the stun immunity and pierce like my idea was if you placed gatling at cliffs he would be stun immune and if you placed him in the ground he would be able to use his infinite pierce.

To be honest if this means it's allowed to be used in events now it's actually gonna still be extremely good due to the nature of event economy encouraging dumping on one dps and most tracks are extremely good for pierce towers. Most of the nerfs are really just centered around non fps mode too.
Sure it may have been the strongest tower in the game, but it was held back by a LOT (only one can be placed, you basically NEED to manually use it for the early levels, massive cash sink, only a small area to shoot in automatically, and expensive as hell) and needed a high level and 35K coins to even use. The nerf would have been fine if it were a SMALL nerf, but it just went from one of the best towers in the game to being not worth using.

Personally I didn't use gatling as much, but it definitively deserved the nerf, every single game was, 1. farm 2. place gatling 3. win, it became so dull that you could use a single tower and win every game without strategy

Now it’s pierce is its main strength which makes it way worse for late game bosses. I understand why they went this route but with 5 tower slots, this hurts and I’m not sure if my friend will be able to use this as his secondary dps for hardcore anymore, although we’ll probably replace it with heli now that it’s the juggernaut.

Yeah I kind of agree, maybe the nerf was a little bit too much, but it was well deserved. Maybe they could just nerf its early game and increase prices for all levels. But now that the nerf is here, you have to use other towers instead of looking at an enemy while holding the fire button. It’s still reliable, but finally it got nerfed. And I also hope we don’t get Gatling gunner Stan’s like how we had Accelerator Stan’s, both towers are no longer dominant in the meta. Even tho accelerator got buffed a lot, when compared to when it use to rule T.D.S, its stats increased (especially damage) a lot. But now you can actually use other towers, (back then only like four towers were even useable because they others were so bad) in fact, I’m sure it was only king because it was one of the only usable DPS towers back then. To be honest, i didn't really use gatling so much because i was too lazy to shoot the enemies for pierce. I just use engi, accel, turret and pursuit for main dps most of the time. I'm pretty sure gatling specializes in pierce not single target so this was not really a good move. But then again they couldn't test it before they released it so they might make some more changes on the gatling gun tower.

Commando got buffed though? Losing one pierce doesn't feel like a big deal at all, it's unlikely getting a shot hitting 4 enemies on mid game, or 5 enemies on late game, compared to the massive 25% guaranteed damage buff on last level, on top of the missile damage and stun time buffs.
While the gatling nerf was pretty bad I do agree the commando nerf back then actually killed the tower completely like gatling is at least somewhat okay now but old commando after the nerf was so trash the tower should've been reworked a long time ago

Gatling gun was really good, and I would use it for every game mode, it def needed a nerf now I haven't used it in my loadouts since it got nerfed it's still the highest dps tower in the game for 1 tower, but I think they cooked the single target damage on it like now it's a crowd control tower
Gatling getting nerfed was a canon event. A 1000 dps tower was way too good to be true, so a nerf had to happen. I think that this big of a nerf was a little overkill, but you have to admit it makes sense. We got high off of an overpowered tower that killed everything so easily that, when it was taken away all of a sudden, the community crashes out. We wouldn’t really be complaining about its dps as of now if it started off this way. Please buff just a little, devs.
I'm sorry, but 1000 dps is NOT a lot for a late game dps tower. Remember, you can only place one gatling, while you can place multiple of everything else. You can get anywhere from 1200 with turret to 6000 with REGULAR minigunner. The only thing that made gatling gunner strong was it's piercing, which should have been nerfed instrsd and the only thing the devs touched, and infinite range, both of which require constant management of the tower and without which it was basically worse ranger. Not to mention, it not only had the highest level requirement of any tower in the game, but also the highest coin cost of any tower in the game, a price only dwarfed by the Cosy of a golden crate (and even then, gatling was 70% of the cost of a g crate anyways). Now, it has less single target dps than 2 turrets and it's piercing does not make up for it. Hell, literally everything gatling gunner can do is done better by pursuit now, which is less than half the coin cost and 75 levels less to obtain.

Commando technically got the biggest nerf in tds history as in the mega update during 2019 it lost most of its good capabilities like for example in pre mega it had 124 dps and it had around 40 - 50 dps from what i remeber

Personally I didn't use gatling as much, but it definitively deserved the nerf, every single game was, 1. farm 2. place gatling 3. win, it became so dull that you could use a single tower and win every game without strategy

Now it’s pierce is its main strength which makes it way worse for late game bosses. I understand why they went this route but with 5 tower slots, this hurts and I’m not sure if my friend will be able to use this as his secondary dps for hardcore anymore, although we’ll probably replace it with heli now that it’s the juggernaut.

On how gatling works (for me), it follow the trope of overpriced high dps tower so you can bring other support towers like medic, merc base, dj, etc. Removing most of its dps (even though it doesnt seem like it got dethroned) is just sad

turret is better than gatling now, gatlings pros are that it is stun immune and pierce, you can get 3 turrets too and its way better
+ you needed to get 35k coins and be lvl 175 to get it
+ turret you get for free at lvl 50 and gatling you need to spend 35k coins AND be level 175 to even unlock it
if i were to nerf, i would nerf its pierce and make it 0 damage when not using

They have every reason to nerf it since yes, it costs 35k and has a level requirement of 175, but it should in no right, be able to cheese everything and allow you to turn your brain off. This reninds me of when accel was the dominant dps tower back in 2021-2023.
Yeah I kind of agree, maybe the nerf was a little bit too much, but it was well deserved. Maybe they could just nerf its early game and increase prices for all levels.
But now that the nerf is here, you have to use other towers instead of looking at an enemy while holding the fire button. It’s still reliable, but finally it got nerfed. And I also hope we don’t get Gatling gunner Stan’s like how we had Accelerator Stan’s, both towers are no longer dominant in the meta. Even tho accelerator got buffed a lot, when compared to when it use to rule T.D.S, its stats increased (especially damage) a lot. But now you can actually use other towers, (back then only like four towers were even useable because they others were so bad) in fact, I’m sure it was only king because it was one of the only usable DPS towers back then. (This is just my opinion, if you disagree with it then dislike this comment and move on)

To be honest, i didn't really use gatling so much because i was too lazy to shoot the enemies for pierce. I just use engi, accel, turret and pursuit for main dps most of the time. I'm pretty sure gatling specializes in pierce not single target so this was not really a good move. But then again they couldn't test it before they released it so they might make some more changes on the gatling gun tower.

Losing one pierce doesn't feel like a big deal at all, it's unlikely getting a shot hitting 4 enemies on mid game, or 5 enemies on late game, compared to the massive 25% guaranteed damage buff on last level, on top of the missile damage and stun time buffs.
While the gatling nerf was pretty bad I do agree the commando nerf back then actually killed the tower completely like gatling is at least somewhat okay now but old commando after the nerf was so trash the tower should've been reworked a long time ago
It made sense for it to be strong I would understand a small nerf but they nerfed it too much, you have to be lvl 175 AND spend 35k coins on it so it should be strong and not be outclassed by a tower you get for FREE at lvl 100.

G crookboss is great for early mid and late game has hidden and flying detection with 100 DPS goons and the actual tower having 200 DPS

Gatling gun was really good, and I would use it for every game mode, it def needed a nerf now I haven't used it in my loadouts since it got nerfed it's still the highest dps tower in the game for 1 tower, but I think they cooked the single target damage on it like now it's a crowd control tower

Gatling getting nerfed was a canon event. A 1000 dps tower was way too good to be true, so a nerf had to happen. I think that this big of a nerf was a little overkill, but you have to admit it makes sense. We got high off of an overpowered tower that killed everything so easily that, when it was taken away all of a sudden, the community crashes out. We wouldn’t really be complaining about its dps as of now if it started off this way. Please buff just a little, devs.

I'm sorry, but 1000 dps is NOT a lot for a late game dps tower. Remember, you can only place one gatling, while you can place multiple of everything else. You can get anywhere from 1200 with turret to 6000 with REGULAR minigunner. The only thing that made gatling gunner strong was it's piercing, which should have been nerfed instrsd and the only thing the devs touched, and infinite range, both of which require constant management of the tower and without which it was basically worse ranger. Not to mention, it not only had the highest level requirement of any tower in the game, but also the highest coin cost of any tower in the game, a price only dwarfed by the Cosy of a golden crate (and even then, gatling was 70% of the cost of a g crate anyways). Now, it has less single target dps than 2 turrets and it's piercing does not make up for it. Hell, literally everything gatling gunner can do is done better by pursuit now, which is less than half the coin cost and 75 levels less to obtain.

Only removing like 150-200 dps would’ve been better imo, enough to still have a significant impact but still needs support from other towers, as every tower should

Commando technically got the biggest nerf in tds history as in the mega update during 2019 it lost most of its good capabilities like for example in pre mega it had 124 dps and it had around 40 - 50 dps from what i remeber

So in a nutshell, Gatling went from S++ Tier against hordes of enemies to S Tier. Against single target, it went from S Tier to B-. IMO not worth wasting one slot on.

Even though I have gattling, I still don’t use it that much, that includes before the rework. Was the nerf necessary, yes. Was it a harsh, a bit but it’s still not a bad tower(maybe buff its damage a bit better CE). Also just cuz a tower takes alot to get dosent mean it should be OP.

Edit: You rant is valid, however, remember, this is a tower that is unlocked for f2p players at level 175 with a cost of 35k. It has it's reasons and situations being strong, but bashing this hard is kinda stupid man. Look at pursuit, it's outdoing a SINGLE PLACEMENT ONLY TOWER, with basically half the requirements to unlock it.

If a tower was able to let you deadass turn your brain off, aim down one line, and just hold click with little to no worry of losing in fallen at times, a nerf is needed. Yes I can see it being too much, but it at least makes you have to bring other towers now and not just that one alone. If I being for real, the main people complaining are the ones that cant turn their brains off and basically win for free, now you actually need to think more so its nice.
