For the longest, growing up I thought my father died of an aneurysm, but my mother finally confessed that I was a child of rape nearly 20 years later. I'll be graduating with my BSN next year and believe providing this kind of care to other victims will be such a rewarding and giving experience within my nursing career. It may just open more doors ... Thanks for this insight!
Sad that she had to dim her light for her husband's embarrassment. The forensic nurse is a skilled professional and one that deserves respect for their service to the community.
Great! I will do so and thank you so much. I can't wait to be part of a wonderful group of nurses. Wishing you all, and other fellow nurses, a very Happy Nurse's Week!
@Kurenai K To become a forensic nurse you first need your registered nursing degree (or the equivalent, depending on your country of residence). Then, it varies based on the type of forensic nursing you wish to pursue. More info is available here: www.forensicnurses.org/page/BecomeFN
Thank you. Thank you. There is very little said about such unique jobs in this area. I am a first year nursing student-looking forward to implementing my personal experiences and what I will gain from my education towards a rewarding career in forensics.
I cannot wait to become a forensics nurse. I was drugged and sexually assaulted by a boyfriend that I lived with at the time. And the local hospital forensics nurse basically refused to do a rape kit on me and exam on me because I told her he was my boyfriend. She humiliated me and dehumanized me, and in the end I just walked out and went back to the abuse. I ended up becoming pregnant, because I wasn't given emergency contraceptive and at the time could not afford it on my own and was too humiliated to ask for help. Fast forward a few more weeks when I finally have a better job and am making more money. I had a lot of morning sickness at work, and remember driving to the dollar store across the street on my break to get a pregnancy test which I later took at work. I ended up having to have an abortion, because the man who raped me and had been abusing me for 6 years was cheating on me, and I had gone through his phone and saw he was grooming other young girls the way he had groomed me. I did it all alone. At 19 years old. I finally grew strong enough to part ways with him and began working on getting my life together. I have been in therapy for 5 years, and am back on medication to help with my CPTSD and PTSD that I received from all the trauma I went through. I am a month away from finishing my first year of college, and have recently been accepted into the nursing program at my school, and start the program next month. Because of my negative experience, I intend on becoming the forensic nurse I needed back when my trauma happened to me. It gives me peace that one day I will be able to help those who went through what I went through.
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so sorry you didn't receive the care you needed. I'm also so glad that it propelled you into the field of nursing. Your patients will be lucky to have you as their nurse.
@@ForensicNurses I am so happy I found this channel. Thank you all for the amazing work you all do. I have so many questions on how to become more educated on the subject. I look forward to future videos.

Your husband was ‘embarrassed by your work’. That’s a red flag. No husband should be embarrassed on how their other half earns money. That made me so angry!!!
Hi. I'm obtaining my bachelor's in human biology this summer and I'm interested in becoming a forensic nurse. How should I go about becoming a forensic nurse? Thank you so much for shedding light on this field!

There are a number of US universities that offer online degree programs and there may be some closer to you as well. We do not recommend any specifically, but you can search the internet for "online masters forensic nursing"

Why would the husband be embarrassed of his wife's career?
+gricel8402
He was likely embarrassed as he did not understand what it was she did. He was also likely fearful others did not understand what she did.
because he is an ignorant pig
sounds like he was insecure. no reason to be embarrassed. I'm sick of idiot men.
I think it was a different time. Men are learning. We are all learning and becoming enlightened bit by bit. And we've all been idiots before.
@@nancybachelder2154 you’d have to be completely neurodiverse to not understand what work she does.
I am a registered general nurse and am very much interested in forensic nurse.

I always thought forensic nursing was psychiatric nursing? Nurses that care for mentally ill people who have committed serious crime?
Hi Marcus - there are so many forensic nursing specialties! You're right - psychiatric nursing is one form of forensic nursing.
