I do some search in aviation herald, and it was emergency situation where the flaps failure and forced the crew to land above normal speed. Every succesfull emergency landing is a good landing. Cheers.
Appeared to be a failure regarding flaps capacity. You recorded some amazing footage there Sir. I've watched this several times. What a fast landing! Some advice: add title, description and tags in English, because such an interesting video simply deserves more views. Thanks for sharing and hats off to the crew. #motivation
I'm glad you're fine. But don't make comments like "horrible landing" when you don't know about aviation. I'm not an expert but 1. seems like the flaps was stuck according to other sources meaning the pilot cannot land at normal speed. You need full flaps to create more lift when travelling slowly. If its stuck at flaps 1, if you slow down like normal you won't create enough lift over the wings and drop/crash. Hence why speed had to be maintained. you say so fast....the speed saved your life. 2. The aircraft would have been at maximum landing weight. Heavy loads means you need to maintain the speed even more importantly. Hard landing? well of course, you're at the limit....usually you would burn fuel etc and be much lighter. 3. The wheels are flat because of the extreme heat applied by the brakes to stop a very heavy aircraft. It is common for them to deflate and if im not mistaken, designed to so they dont explode which is worse. Give the pilot credit as this landing was good. not bad. The pilot and aircraft technology saved your life. Please don't say it's a horrible landing when it was a good landing
Thank you for your comment and the knowledge. But please consider about the situation. This vdo was taken from the real situation. No background sound or sound editor. Every interjection came from instinct at the second of dead or alive, without any consideration or thinking. Please consider from the real situation at that time (not from the result after the investigation). There was no information of anything on board about the accident. The passengers knew only there was a problem with the aircraft, but what problem we didn't know. None of the on board passengers knew how to land the plane with this unknown problem. The pilot didn't announce what the landing pattern will be. The passengers (including me) thought that the plane was returned to the airport and it will be landed as usual. But at the time of landing, it's not as usual. The speed of the plane looked too fast, and it didn't look slow down (about 10 seconds after touching down). The FEELING at that second, 10 seconds is long enough that the plane won't stop at the end of runway. I think you consideration and investigation comment took more than 10 seconds. I know that the airplane was well designed, and travelling with the plane is the safest way. All pilots are well trained. You may imagine about taking a roller coaster. Everyone knows that it's safe, you'll be fine. But why do they scream on the roller coaster? Why don't they just sit back and relax on the roller coaster? No one think about the reasoning at the usual second. There were aircraft accident, although every thing was well designed. We didn't know that it'll be jackpot at my flight or not. Again, please understand from the second at the real situation, not from the investigation that you have time to consider.
There was no information given because it wasn't important, the pilot will tell you if there is a serious problem. Hence why they didn't even ask you to brace because it was a routine landing, just a little fast but within safe limits. If it wasn't safe, they would ask you to brace for impact. I have flown A380 before and experienced hard landings, yours was harder and faster but that is all, everything else was fine. No unusual sounds etc. Also landing doesn't take up as much runway as take off so he knew he could land at higher speed and be fine
Im not aeroplane expert, but clearly theres emergency situation that force the crew to back and land in Narita ASAP.. Fast landing, heavy brake, overheated brake and tire fuse plug goes away, tire deflated. For an emergency landing, this is a good job landing.thumbs up for the pilots.
quick note: The tires didn't 'blow out'. On a landing as seen in this video the landing weight is much higher than on a regular landing: The aircraft is fueled for a multi-hour flight and returns after just 1 hour of flight-time. This higher landing weight causes the landing speed to be much higher which in turn (just like a high speed aborted take-off) puts a lot of stress on the brakes which causes them to heat up much more than on a regular landing. This heat dissipates partly into the wheel heating the nitrogen in the tires up which in turn causes the tire pressure to rise. In order to prevent the tires from actually bursting and exploding (especially with rescue services being close to the wheels after such an event) aircraft wheels are fitted with fusable plugs. These are little tubes, similar to a regular valve stem, which are filled with a heat sensitive material. Once a certain temperature is reached this material will melt and allow the tires to deflate in a controlled and safe manner. While this will destroy the wheels it will prevent damage to the aircraft's belly fuselage as well as potential human life.
Landing was fast because there was an asymmetric flaps issue (Very dangerous to continue the flight with this condition). He had to land the aircraft with no flaps, and the aircraft was probably near its maximum landing weight. The heavy weight and high speed put a LOT of strain on the brake system which is what all that smoke is. Well handled by the pilot flying. Fire trucks usually come out after landings like this because it is not unheard of for the gear to catch fire - they are there to spray it down if it does, and monitor it until the gear temperatures come down. It's not supposed to catch fire (It's been tested) but in the real world it can happen.
When there's an emergency, if the plane lands in one piece, it's a good landing. Also it landed so fast most likely due to flaps failure which meant more braking had to be applied which resulted in the wheels deflating because the temperature of the brake disks were too high and could cause the wheels to explode.
Damn, that's a lot of flat tires. Good luck seeing that bird fly out in the next 24hrs... Bet they had to get some tires sent over to that location, I'm sure there weren't that many replacements on-hand.
maybe it because one of the engine is down(a380 will shut down one of its engine if a problem is found by one of its sensors) plus a change of wind gust equals to very hard landing and no thrust reversers(causes one engine problem) plus hard breaks equals to blown out tires. that should do. :3
I think the tires blew out because of the weight + speed of the aircraft at the landing time. It was just about 30 minutes after take off when you were going back to Tokyo. the fuel amount. did the pilot dump fuel while you coming back?
Tires didnt blew out. Its system which relase air after overheating brakes to dont let tires explode and brakes overheated because of fast landing without flaps.
Tired did not blow out they deflated because the brakes were probably glowing red off the heat. The 747-8 does the same and I think any other plane does to
emirates start the downhill getting worst and worst every month, the food is smaller, the service is bad,and a lot little troubles one day they lid in a big trouble...
Maybe they landed fast because remember that Eastern flight that almost went down cause of rudder malfunction and landed quickly? Here is MY reasons: Eastern: Able to not lose control Emirates: Able to withhold with a sudden wind change
Another reason why the landing was harder then normal was probably cuz u where a lot heavier (the planes fuel) which could have making it harder for the pilots.
+Nicolaas Geldenhuys Actually it does, more weight means more power to the engines, which ultimately makes the plane a lot harder to control. It also causes slower movements than usual. More weight would also mean a heavier landing, and if you notice, the Airbus A380 has hard landing most of the time
+Nicolaas Geldenhuys Planes are control when air are being reflected by the control surfaces. So when it is slow, there is less air going on the wind so there is less air to reflect.
Ifly 777 I'm not sure what you were trying to say right now. If you were referring to Gabriel's comment and trying to explain that faster speeds = slower movements then you are wrong unfortunately.
The landing was so hard because the plane was probably close to its maximum weight. It is unclear whether it dumped fuel but I suspect this is why the tires blew
Yu can't judge that landing it was fine, just hard. Also, how dare you say it was way too fast, you were not in the cockpit and you clearly don't have a clue as to how the approach speed works. The final approach and landing speed can change based on the wind and weight of the aircraft.
I was not in the cockpit. I was in the passenger cabin. But the passenger cabin and the cockpit are in the same plane. I can see outside the plane from the window. I don't have knowledge about the relationship between speed and situations. I know only it was faster than every flight that I've flown in my life.
NineBeerJP u better know what is the word grateful.... that was a good landing. at emergency, app speed can be high. if u complain, why didnt u fly the plane?
You should understand that I was in a frightened situation. I had time to analysis the situation only 10 seconds. Someone may say "Fucking" or other rude words. But I said "horrible landing" from my 10 seconds analysis.
Not very many by what the video shows.. This guy should have his certificate removed.. With a landing like that the plane should be removed from service.. Yes.... a Horrible Landing...
Instead of making academic arguments about whether the landing was "hard" or not, would someone mind getting to the point. What's wrong with you people? The plane circled back to the original airport 30 mins after departure? Why? There were fire trucks waiting outside the plane. Why? Smoke was coming out from under the plane? Why? Landing gear is clearly damaged after the landing. Why? Thanks to the passenger for getting it all on camera. Obviously, something more serious was brewing, so why doesn't someone put the pieces of the puzzle together instead of wasted discussion on hard and soft landings.

What an impact of maximum braking on A380 landung gear..this giant beast its superb.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing
At least Emirates doesn't do hard landings consistently. Yes Ryanair... I'm Watching You!
I'm glad that the plane did overshooted the runway during that fast and hard landing
You need a hard landing to make sure your tires stick to the ground to reduce the stop distance. No time for the pilots to flare like normal.

Thank lord that A380 did not break apart or EXPLODE!
No. Thank the pilot and who made the plane.
ที่ยางแตกไม่ได้เป็นเพราะลงแรงครับแต่มาจาก brake overheat แล้วมันร้อนเกินที่เค้าออกแบบไว้ทำให้ยางละลายแล้วแตกครับ

3:13 ryanair sometimes does softer landings!
No matter what airline. The pilot who land the plane. No matter what airline
maybe it because one of the engine is down(a380 will shut down one of its engine if a problem is found by one of its sensors) plus a change of wind gust equals to very hard landing and no thrust reversers(causes one engine problem) plus hard breaks equals to blown out tires. that should do. :3
Overheated brakes and fuse plug detonated due to that extreme heat. It's a safety feature. Everybody safe. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

True, but hey. At least their economy is growing
the trouble I said one year ago is here last week, more have to follow...they never learn...
Maybe they landed fast because remember that Eastern flight that almost went down cause of rudder malfunction and landed quickly? Here is MY reasons:
Eastern: Able to not lose control
Emirates: Able to withhold with a sudden wind change
I just don’t want people to make a Ryanair meme out of this like “wHeN a rYaNaIr pIlOt fLiEs eMiRaTeS”
Another reason why the landing was harder then normal was probably cuz u where a lot heavier (the planes fuel) which could have making it harder for the pilots.
The weight of the plane has just about no influence on how difficult it is to land.

More weight would also mean a heavier landing, and if you notice, the Airbus A380 has hard landing most of the time
+Gabriel Osorto Please explain to me your "more power harder to control" and also causes "causes slower movement" theories.

Ok I’m not flying Emarites agian… HOW FAST WAS THAT… IT WAS LIKE 200KTS
I agree imagine how hard it is for the pilots to land
Still better landing then ryanair
What was wrong ?
Must have been flap malfunction
The landing was hard because the plane still have the full weigh of fuel so they had to come with full speed.
Yu can't judge that landing it was fine, just hard. Also, how dare you say it was way too fast, you were not in the cockpit and you clearly don't have a clue as to how the approach speed works. The final approach and landing speed can change based on the wind and weight of the aircraft.
