I'm guessing connecting a FortiSwitch to a pair of Gate's in HA mode is supported? What about stuff like DHCP snooping/ARP inspection and trunking multiple VLAN's between the Gate and Switch? Thanks for the video, very helpful.
This works with HA as well. I will be doing a video for HA soon that will go into the details. Latest versions of FortiOS for switches etc are getting really smart with keeping up with things such as this.
I created a HardwareSwitch and set it to "fortilink enabled" on the cli. I connected 3 Switches in a star topology with the fortigate being the core. The switch do not show up on the FG. The links are green but there are now Switches shown under "managed FortiSwitches". Under "Managed FortiAPs" however I can see the APs connected to the FortiSwitches! Any Ideas?
i have one wuestion here can i create the same vlan subnet on fortigate and also create that vlan on fortiswitch with th same vlan subnet as it on fortigate
@Fortinet Guru i have one wuestion here can i create the same vlan subnet on fortigate and also create that vlan on fortiswitch with th same vlan subnet as it on fortigate
I'm trying to do the same... I have 2 HA fortigate 200F, with fortilink I have 9 fortiswitches 424, all with fortios 7.0 and above. I create some vlans on fortilink interface, but how can I use these vlans on the fortigate ports? do I have to create zones and policies? or there is any way to configure those ports from fortigate to be in the same vlan as fortiswitch ports. thank you Fortinet Guru
Cant figure out how to add a 2nd switch... dont have the option to make a 2nd interface a dedicated fortilink port... Using a 81e, a 124e-poe and a 108e-poe... im so sad hahahhaaa... thanks for any advice you might offer. cheers
Are both switches plugging into the fortigate directly? If so, you need to make a hardware switch and dedicate that switch to be the dedicated fortiswitch interface. That will let you connect switches to whatever interface is a member of that hardware switch (I say hardware switch as it is less intensive on the CPU).....OR, you can plug the second switch into the other switch and they chain up directly. The 108E switch will most likely require you to login to it (config switch interface, edit port8 do a "set ?" and hit enter to find out which one is talking about auto fortilink enable.......set the port to allow that and it should chain up.
@@FortinetGuru yep, got it... fumbled thru it... Im a cisco guy so the lingo between fortinet and cisco is an odd one to translate so to say.... i really appreciate you getting back so fast, thank you sir !

@@FortinetGuru I want my fortiswitch ports to do port isolation. This seems documented for the switch in standalone mode but not when managed from the fortigate. The terminology used is private vlans with community vlans. Do you know if this is possible?
good work

Hows the performance ? Is it good AP ?

only thru the web GUI? no demo thru the CLI?

Could you have set up the DHCP server on the gate and show clients receiving IPs from the DHCP server on the Gate?
can you test , if the 61e with 5.6 can manage fortiswitch ?

i need to install 4 fortiswitches, i can't connect more than one Fortiswitch to the fortigate ?
You can configure the entire list of internal ports as a hardware switch for FortiSwitch connectivity if you choose.
