People like you are treasure in society... I am new to uk and unknown to most of trees and bushes here so really wanted to know more about trees I usually see in parks and everywhere... thanks i found this channel...
What a fantastic video. There's a magical quality of that nature connection that keeps coming through, I love it. Great shots, great editing. Just perfect.
Grey squirrels are a damn nuisance, they're destroyed so much of our native local ecology. It seems you you can't pick hazel huts in local woodlands any more in the UK because the squirrels get to them first before they're ripe. It now, sadly, seems very rare to be able to pick quality hazelnuts such as the ones you picked. 200g bag in Tesco £2.75, usually imported. Great video as always. Hogweed seeds as a spice - I hadn't thought of that. Be great if you could do a video on UK seeds including spice seeds, if you haven't already.
inspiring, relaxing video as always..always amazes me how the taste of balckberries can differ within bushes a few feet of eachother, some sour, some sweet.. thankyou
@@AlissaSss23 nah, even ripe or over ripe blackberries can taste sour... apparently there are over 100 different blackberry varieties in the uk and their taste is all subtly different
Blackberries are one of our favourites so delicious, not many where l live, infact hardly anything grows, l do have a Hazelnut and cob tree in my garden, beechnut oil that will be interesting to watch, thank you for sharing
I have been foraging all my life and yet you always learn me something new. Great video this one, that basket full of natures bounty looked truly amazing. Thanks for taking the time to share.
@@theyoungforager Lol never thought of it like that, how true. And lets face it that food is a lot fresher than what the supermarkets now class as fresh, and charge the earth for!
I will have to keep an eye on mine. I have a young hazel, it's been chopped back quite a bit to make the pathway more useable, but this year there is a single hazelnut on it for the first time :) There's no danger of squirrels where I live, so I have no fear of leaving it on the tree for a month or two.
Just came across your channel and it is a god send.. 🙏🙏.. New to foraging.. Blackberries then bag full of hawthorn today and been eating some to get my body used to new food 😁 . Next stop looking for hazelnuts and apples.. Thankyou so much we need to get back to our roots before cashless society comes in
i bought a berry rake before i even bothered picking hawthorne, turns out its a great first berry to collect with one, as the hawthorne tree is adept at teaching you to respect what youre gathering whilst also teaching you how to use a berry rake properly, if you dont respect the hawthorne and just go raking away, it will stab you hahaa
I gotta type what just went through my mind when you said about hazelnts, cadburies make e'm and cover them in chocolate, and yes at this rate we will be run by a bunch of Squirrels, they forget where they burried thier nuts i got hazel growing outside my kitchen window
I was all ways lead to believe hawthorn bushes were poisonous! There were some amongst the Bullace berries I was picking, thinking back when my mother would say don't touch them🤦♀️ have you a video on things poisonous pls. So glad I've found you ty
Have you made apple cider vinegar from crab apples? Very strong. Wonder if they rake leaves away from under that walnut tree, once fallen, as apparently it must be done (it affects the tree somehow, once it start rotting). To preserve tree health, thus future harvests. Apparently, green walnut peel tincture is good for something, leaves too. This video made my day
I just love your videos! May I inquire as to the general area of the UK you live? I will be moving to Somerset countryside in October from the USA and am so excited to begin foraging. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, ideas and recipes!
Ah Somerset is lovely. I’m not too far away from there I’m mostly based in the Bristol area. I also do a lot of foraging over the bridge in Wales. You won’t be too far from the Severn estuary which is great for foraging :)
Thanks :). Yes you can eat them raw, but they are much better roasted. Left in their shell but with the bracts removed they should store for several months
Hi, in my local woods there are quite a few trees of Hazelnut & Beech Nut. where about's are you based ???? I am in Cornwall. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
Thanks again Lewis, I'm going to make haw berry ketchup. People don't have time to pick blackberries because they're too busy working to get the money to them, they need to take stock of their lives and fast.
@@UKWILDCRAFTS you should do a trip up north to see if you can do as well, what places you'd recommend going ect. Would be a good few videos of content.
As in price? It’s free. You can forage on any public land in the UK unless specifically asked not to, or on SSSI sites (Sites of special scientific interest), they are usually pretty well sign posted. You can also forage on private land with permission
Yep 😊. They encourage it actually. On their website they say people more involved with nature through foraging and other activities are more likely to want to protect it. Which I agree with 100%. Just check it’s not a SSSI site first
Those hazelnuts are amazing! We've got quite a few hazels growing around here, but over half of the nuts get eaten by worms (don't know what they're called in English) and most of the rest by squirrels, who take them as soon as they're ripe. It's a shame, they would be such an abundant food source otherwise.
I have eaten the summer blackberries and the autumn trees are full now of hazelnuts and the mushrooms will be appearing soon. If Govt and MSM are to believed, stock up now because of climate change 😂
Dude , leave the nuts for the animals to eat , you can purchase the nuts at a store ...if i catch you taking away the a imals food i will deal with u then and there accordingly

What the heck you have whole trees to yourself and you are picking them like you are being charged per berry picked. Hope you stripped those trees bare off camera.

Beach nut Oil, sounds great, I bet that’s pretty fiddly when opening the nuts.
i wanna live there
We need to see how these things are prepared in your kitchen! Please
Which blackberries do you prefer. Those that catch the morning sun or the evening sun? I prefer morning sun blackbreeies
Lovely video as always, don't hazel dormice eat hazel nuts?
Which site is this called?? Looks teaming with native species forseasonal foraging!
Can you show us how you make cook your recipes love to see how it is done
Yep will do :)
Can you please tell me what you do with the wild carrot seeds? Great video as usual. I love all the free food we can forage. ❤
why do you pick the hazelnuts with the covering on?
These hazelnuts are a bit white, u need to take them when they are brown, dunno if they are edible like that
They are fine as long as there’s some browning on the shell. By September they are fully developed (in my area) and can finish ripening at home
