  • Visual artist Mary Noonan presents 'Ealaín le Bréagáin' / ‘Art with Toys’ exploring ways to create visual art inspired by and using your toys.
These videos are designed as inspirational jumping off points, rather than how-to tutorials. You might like to try out what artist Mary Noonan is doing, however we hope the videos will also inspire your own new ideas which we encourage you to explore. Feel free to get creative!
We encourage parents and older siblings to watch these videos together with their youngest family members, and join them in getting creative together.
    Materials you’ll need:
    Paper
Pencils / markers / crayons whatever they have in their pencil case
Paint in a variety of colours
Oil pastels (if you have them)
Fun things like, feathers, tin foil, pipe cleaners, stickers, fabric - whatever you have to hand. Be inventive!
Note: Materials and objects you choose to work with should be used in a safe way. Parental supervision is required.
These videos are created as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2021, the national day of free creativity for children and young people. They are inspired by the voices of young children, and a selection of their likes and wishes, as outlined in First Five, Report on the National Consultation with Young Children from 2016. Children aged 3-5 reported to researchers that one of the main things they like is their home, and that their garden and nature is also important to them. They also like doing activities with parents, siblings, grandparents and pets; engaging in creative activities such as drawing/colouring; and having toys, and toys they care for.
The Linenhall Arts Centre is working with three Mayo based artists to present these videos which we hope young children will find inspiring.
