I gotta say, having the adjustability of the Sargent with an actual chipbreaker plate like on the Stanley would make for a better autoset plane. At least that's my thoughts after fiddling around with and using the Sargent autoset I have. Having the actual cap be the chipbreaker kind of put me off a little when I had to fit it to the back of the blade. Definitely would not mind it being a separate unit.
Yep, I am also not a fan of integrated chipbreakers. All I could say in this case was that it was better than the Gage version. Thanks for the comment!
I just got a Seargant 711 its ok shape 70% of japananing no pits or bad rust. Do these planes have any value? Love the content. Wilbur on the coast of Maine
Hi Will, I'm glad you like the content. Tell your friends about the channel! Your plane is a "junior jack" size plane, I've always considered this to be an interesting size and probably less common that either the 710 or the 714. My guess is that the value of a 711 would be somewhere in the $150 to $200 range. Thanks, Mark
@@MarkSLSmith1 it's in way better condition than the one on eBay currently $250.oo for rite now. Can I send you pics anywhere email facebook? I'd like to send it down the road with meat on the bone for the next guy. I'm currently stashing away my pennies for my dream plane a ”user grade sqaure side 605½" if I can ever find one... I subscribed and I will tell my buddies and you will get more!
Very interesting - I'd never heard of these planes. The audio seemed a little off compared to your previous videos - it sounded like a propane torch was running.
John, I'm glad you found them interesting. The sound might be due to the AC; it is, after all, Texas in the summer! If I didn't have the AC on, I'd be dripping with copious sweat, and I think that might decrease the popularity of the videos (I'd add a smiley face here if I could figure out how to do it).
