Old photographs of Forfar, Scotland. Like other parts of Angus, Forfar was home to a very successful textile industry during and after the Industrial Revolution. In the late 18th century the firm of William and John Don & Company was founded in the town. Another important textile firm was J & A Craik & Company, Linen and Jute Manufacturers, which was based at the Manor Works in Forfar. Craiks was started in 1863. Bon Scott, rock n' roll singer from the band AC/DC. was born in Forfar

I now live in Forfar too. We moved here in 2014 all the way from Australia. And this, without ever having heard of or seen this place before. We could not even pronounce it correctly. We called it "Foohrfaahhr"...LOL. Not much changed other than Reid Park looks less fancy, people dress differently and there are too many cars on the street now. Thank you for showing me these old photos.

Lived in Forfar from 1978 to 1985. Parents owned ‘The Stag Hotel’. Moved to North Aberdeenshire in 1985 but it was not like Forfar at all.

Remember buying Jacks bag of 1d ice lollies in the Vennel.
Sad when the tore down the Muckle Inn, such a history lost.
So much has not changed though.
