I also got those platinum medakas from him on Kaneohe, Oahu. Last year March 2018 I used a spawning mop and had lots of eggs. Now I have about 60 yearlings. Never used methylene blue. Fed them Hikari “First Bites” from the get go. Great fish for first timers.
@@nfearther2936it means that egg didn't make it. You can keep the eggs in a dish of chlorinated tap water the first 7-8 days, the chlorine doesn't hurt the eggs
Haha thanks man, definitely freaked out haha. I have a part two in the works already, lots of baby fry growing up! Actually ordered a different strain, orange, that should be arriving today coincidentally
AJCTropicals Eventually want to get them really cranking in some ponds outside and start offering them on the website. They really do look good from the top or the side
@@WildFishTanks that's gonna be cool especially with a few strains going, shame I'm on the wrong side of the pond for ordering from you 😅as rice fish are not the easiest thing to get over here.
Haha thanks! We are having a lot of success, in part 2 you’ll see a bunch of the babies. I just got in some orange ones also, hoping to get those cranking soon too!
Oooh my platinum madaka from Japan are mostly platinum blue, one is green and one is purple platinum few white rest blue. Never seen these before. Nice.
I had some but the didn’t survive. I’m planning to rearrange some tanks I have to try get some more. I currently have some daisy blues that’s I’ve had and kept going for about 7 years. Recently got some Indian rice fish. They’re all hard to find.
Where are you located in the state of Florida? I Would love to get some mix color medaka from you in the near future. Oh I forgot to mention that male fins on the bottom are square and female bottom fins are like slanted.
How long does it take for the eggs to hatch? I’ve had eggs in a decent sized deli cup for going on 3 weeks and I see they are eyed up but I feel they should of hatched by now...?
Congrats on the spawn!!!! If you feel like trying another anti-fungal method a few drops of hydrogen peroxide may work as well as the meth-blue. Did you have an airstone in with the meth-blue eggs? I see that they hatched for ya, that's awesome. In the next video I need to see what you're going to feed these guys. I have trouble feeding fish that are too small to eat live baby brine shrimp. I love the breeding stuff. Stay safe Ryan!!
Thanks Don. I appreciate the tip with the peroxide. I did not use an air stone in the meth blue eggs, they are hatching like crazy though. Have over 100 fry currently and more eggs waiting to hatch. I haven’t used any live bbs yet but frozen bbs, golden pearls and crushed flake now. Also keeping grow outs full of moss now, think they are eating plenty of micro organisms. Stay safe up there also!
You need water flow in the container to keep parameters good. Add an air stone on low to keep water oxygenated and some cherry shrimp to keep eggs clean. I do this with corry eggs all the time.
Congratulations!🎈 Do you think you might try these out in tubs in a few months? I never realized how beautiful they were - I may have to try them in a hill stream loach tank.
Yes, definitely want to try some outside and see if they will do the process by themselves. I just got some orange ones in, gorgeous color, but these really pop from the top!
Congrats Ryan! Have you seen the Koi Medaka Rice Fish? I hope one day to raise those beauties. Ugh! I’m in the US so it might be a long time before we see the koi ones here.
Thank you Jill! I saw them in a recent video from Ryo, ruclips.net/video/oZTtkWkPsH4/видео.html. Absolutely gorgeous! I hope we get them here sooner rather than later.
Thanks Raul! I have spawned them once but hoping to make it a regular thing. I’m actually working on a video about Hillstream loaches right now, might be the next one out
Hi Ryan, Kaneohe is on the south east corner of O'ahu just over the mountain range from Honolulu, and south of Kaneohe bay. Great job on the rice fish. I never had much success with my orange ones. I did way better with Daisys ricefish. Cheers, Chris
Hey there Chris. Thank you for the info! I know you’re a teacher...geography? Lol. Thanks, pulling the eggs daily is a labor of love but have about 100 growing out right now. I just got some orange ones in yesterday, hoping to work on them. If I do I’ll let you know. Heard you may be getting some pretty cool guppies 👍. Stay safe.
Ryan, I'm a biology teacher, but I was in Hawaii for Christmas. I had never been before but now I'm ready to move there😀. Yes, I have guppies eventually coming from Jesse at H.C.aqua and from Jimmy (Swhisky) as well. I had to empty my classroom, so now I have 7 five gallon buckets in my dining room! The upside is that my wife is quite happy for me to build a rack in the basement. Just starting on the design today😁! I have to get rid of quite a few fish because I broke down 10 aquariums in my classroom. Most of those fish are in the one, 55 gallon tank in my basement. When I'm done with the basement, I will have six, 10 gallons, three, 55 gallons, and maybe a 30 or 20 long. It's not a big basement and my Kayak is hanging form the ceiling down there! Working on staying well but my allergies are holding me down at the moment. You remember spring up here. All the best, Chris
Love it! Sounds like you’re going to have a nice basement fish room!! If you’re interested in some fundulus chrysotus or other natives let me know and I’ll send you some. Rest up and feel better Chris
No room now, but you may be interested in Fundulus zibrinis "Red River" I have a group of 7 or so to get rid of. There is a short video of them on my channel. I also have pairs of Pelvicachromis sacrimontis "Azumini River" also on my channel. Thanks, I may hit you up for some of your red bushy noses when I have quarantine space Cheers, Chris
I'm desperate for a small school of 6-10 of the white or platinum ones for my cold water tank. If you think they are rare in the USA, the UK is on a whole different level. There are literally only a handful of people that have them and they will only sell eggs on the rare occasions that they have spare, getting your hands on fry is impossible.
Thank you. I’ve actually started allowing some of them to hatch in the methylene blue, typically takes 10-14 days. I’m checking the container multiple times a day so they are not in there for long at all. I haven’t been measuring it exactly but I will so I can make a guide. Right now I’ve just been putting in a few drops until water is blue but not too dark.
No need to pull the ‘humped’ female they were bred to have them yrs ago so you may get the odd one with a hump. She will provide we’ll fry. Yep the snails will eat them like mad, the females lay for a season resting every odd day or so. I have bred them for yrs and never used MB I use cherry shrimps to eat the fungused eggs. Lower the flow and up the heat and the eggs will hatch quicker.
Take the eggs out. Put them in a wet sponge . Put the wet sponge in a air thight bag. And let the eggs there for 8-10days . After that u can put the evolbed eggs back in the water.
My friend breed them and pass 30 to my wife when I was at work but when I reach home all gone cause my cute wife put it on the wrong tank with my adult altum angel fish.
Gorgeous healthy Medaka! Buttons on smash!
I love how pumped you were when you saw the eggs😂😂 I get that feeling way too much
Haha just a little bit excited

I’ll have the update soon, got about 100 little guys right now
I'm breeding these too. Really fun fish to work with.
What strains are you working with? I just ordered some orange ones from the same gentlemen Derek on Kaneohe.
