I love this. Even in his kitchen, Bert sings and plays beautifully. The other thing I like is that there is not a trace of any ego with either Bert or John: just two best friends crafting and rehearsing a song together. Lovely.
The first time i saw this in 1993/4 I remember thinking, that's not cool - in a kitchen drinking tea? Where's the real ale? The ruby wine? How wrong I was. There's such magic in the simplicity of the setting, the music totally takes over. Such is maturity. Bert and John's music is timeless.
So glad to have had these two masters as my early influences;I remember when I first heard "Bert and John"; took me days to believe people could write and play such stuff; sorely missed....
He had a very distinct voice but his singing style wasnt one Id imagine was taxed terribly over the years versus say Robert Plant or Janis Joplin.so its no suprise he maintained it over the years.
I never saw John live unfortunately , but I saw Bert several times , Solo and with The Pentangle ... Oh to have been a fly on their kitchen wall . Genuine Artists /Musicians , sadly now eclipsed by " Modern Muzac " .......
Too bad they were smokers. They were my idols growing up in England, and it was so sad to lose them at a relatively young age. However, we are so lucky, because with modern technology we are able to listen to and watch them forever!!!
@James Tudor They were both blessed with long lives, such talent. I’ve heard that Burt suffered somewhat from his cancer, I hate to hear such things. Of course I never knew the man but they both seem like gentle souls. May they Rest In Peace.✌️
OMG this is so cute, Bert Jansch is teaching John Renbourn to read music and play guitar! What a cute doggo is Renbourn! (Pardon me, I've been reading too many comments on animal videos).
I've been hearing about this guy for years. Now, i fnally get it.
My deep and distant youth was surrounded by their music...hours and hours spent just listening.
Moi aussi il y a longtemps..Bert un véritable songwriter...
You and me both! How fortunate were we to live in those amazing days.
My favorite song ever.
Thank you with greetings from Russia

RIP Bert & John Your music is tattooed on my soul....My Lord...I would have given anything to have witnessed this........
That gorgeous emotional voice ..never forgotten .
The best version of this song in my opinion, I love the simplicity of this version, and the way the melody matches the vocal line.
Been learning THIS version, and it's not too difficult. Quickly becoming one of my favourites to play.

Saw Bert one time. At McCabes in Santa Monica. What a performance. Sublime.
I really miss these two guys 😥
I met John a couple of times and it was weird and awkward. I met Bert just once and he was an absolute delight. Wonderful guitarists.
Agree never met John but Bert was special in an ordinary way, spend a hour drinking with hm post a pentangle gig, 20 yrs after i first heard him.
This is a great fly on the wall performance between two old friends.

reevedavey Felt exactly the same.
You will be dearly missed to Brian, rest in peace.
I really like Soho from Bert and John
Beautiful stuff. 4:48: "One of those ... and then ... and then one of those ... and the final one is ..."
What a joy to hear and see two such talented people with no ego both massively missed
Incredible how his voice didn't change with the time...
@Simón Radowitzky
Although I could imagine he might’ve struggled with "Do You Hear Me Now?"
He had a very distinct voice but his singing style wasnt one Id imagine was taxed terribly over the years versus say Robert Plant or Janis Joplin.so its no suprise he maintained it over the years.
Never forget the first time I saw Bert at Les Cousins in greek street Soho early sixties!!
Nice!
So beautiful it surely cannot be
Such a beautiful song....
The game Bert and John was playing is called “Go”... originally come from China...
Excellent......two of my favourite guitarists since I saw them many years ago in Pentangle...
Magic..Bert's songs are all lovely reality tunes turned to fairy tales

What a huge loss Peter...

They were heavy drinkers, too. At least back in the day...Leaves a mark. But that came with the territory.
So unhealthy...why don't people stop.

Magic. There is no other word for it

wtf dude
John Renbourn had a degree in music so I don't think he needed Bert to teach him how to read notation. This is a great clip featuring two masters.

Next you'll be informing me that this is a _Video_ clip posted on a site called RUclips.
