It's so important that she won this round with this song because in South Korea, rock is one of the less popular genres and in a way a sort of ostracized genre of music in the country. That's part of why Dreamcatcher does not do that well in popularity there, but it also explains why they are so popular in Japan and in the West since rock is a common genre of music there.

this is INCREDIBLE!!! i hope everyone understands what a difficult song overdose is, since most of the vocal parts are a kind of a mix between singing and talking in a low tone, so it’s amazing she was able to turn it into something this melodious that also suits her female tone. and the genre change! as much as i love overdose it relies a lot on its trendy hip hop/electronic production, it’s so cool to hear it in such a raw musical form. fantastic job!!!

There are excellent singers in this gen, but Siyeon is absolutely fantastic, she can handle whatever they throw at her and make it even better. Ppl say it's about the genre (rock) and that may have a part in it, but seems like Korea just doesn't like strong, confident young women like DC, producing quality. They prefer the obedient, cutesy 20yrs olds that are running in superminis and acting as 10.. Messed up..

Also autotune is nothing to hate, literally every song you listen to today is gonna have some level of auto tune. It isn't a bad thing and it doesn't mean the singer can't sing. (Coming from a music producer) It's just polish on top of what should already be good
there’s too much synthesis. it would’ve been better if they lessened it and lowered the backing vocals so we can hear her voice clearly. i’ve heard her other covers and i know she has a great voice, but this rendition wasn’t as good as she could’ve made it sound.
@@omegasynth really? all i hear in 2:42 is a bit of backing vocals while she's reaching that incredible high note on her own, is that considered helping or ''some level'' of autotune?, also in 2:48 wtf where is the autotune you hear??... it's true that it's nothing to hate, it's very common but this was not the case.., instead i suspect that there actually could be some autotune in 2:07, which is ironical because it's literally something easier to sing..

at 2:42 I'm listening to the quality of the run up to the high note, not the high note itself. There's a slight amount of sonic artifacts when she switches from the lower note to the higher note. If you know what to look for, the jump from the lower note is too clean for a normal voice to do.
Also, her power wavers a bit at 2:42 but her note doesn't move at all meaning that there's software helping her output vocal. It's hard to explain but she definitely struggled A BIT to hit that and so her note should suffer slightly but it doesn't.
There's also an electronic tinge to her audio around there which isn't vocal effects (or the backing vocals as those are in a higher register than her main vocals so they don't clash).
At 2:48 is the most obvious for me as she runs up and down. The way she hits each note definitely has electronic assistance. Vocal runs are one of the most difficult aspects of singing and take so so much time to get good at. It's not humanly possible to hit all the notes she did in as short a time as she did as cleanly as she did. Aside from the possibility of it, you can actually hear the autotune kicking in when she does the run and then stop when she holds the lower note confidently. Even the king of vocal runs Do Kyungsoo wouldn't be able to hit that cleanly.
OH yeah you're right, 2:07 does have some slight pitch correction. But the most obvious ones are generally when the vocals push their voices for runs or high notes and that's when voices tend to fail especially with nerves/rushed warmups/bad days. And that's when the autotune kicks in to save them. So that's when I take more notice I guess.
End of the day, she still did a great job. What she managed is hard even with the small assistance she had. But you can tell when a vocal is live / has autotune by the small (sometimes microscopic) imperfections of their voice that you can't polish out live unless you have autotune (like in this case).

An artist can easily make high notes, but it is useless if you try to imitate other artists and your voice does not adapt to other genres. Siyeon you're so unique and versatile, you made you own song without trying to imitate others.
Some people still don't understand that high notes don't make a good vocalist. ^_^
@Tulip but a REAL good vocalist need more than just high notes (notes that Siyeon can reach btw too). Look the winner of this show had more views than siyeon at first, but now a few hours laters Siyeons views are twice bigger. Its because people are attracted by uniqueness and versatility. High notes aren't enough. (no shade the winner and every contestants did well uwu).
@Tulip In fact Jiu, a member of DC, who has a voice is very soft and low tone, in my opinion, on Immortal Song 2 she showed that she can make high notes, was a surprise for us. Even Dami, DC's main rapper, can make high tones.
So any rapper, lead or main vocalist can make high tones, but not everyone can make their voice adapt to all genres, a good vocalist is the one with voice control, from high to low notes, making own the song, without trying to break the vocal cords.
@Tulip I talk about the typical high and very high pitched note. Some people just think that a good vocalist is someone who ca' do this but I think that the tone, your breath support, the emotion that you put in the performance have a lot to do too. Between, you can do a < high note > not that high and it can be good. 😊
