One of my favorite artist is the Jesuit missionary, Giuseppe Castiglione otherwise called Lang Shih-Ning. He was the court painter for 3 of the Ming emperors.
The Jesuit missionaries at the time Castiglione came to China, about a century after Rocco were more or less servants of the reigning emperor. Their technology skills were used to support him, but they weren’t allowed to convert any Chinese. To convert to Christianity was death with the loophole that those already converted could maintain their own religion, but didn’t have churches.

China makes lots of very good historical mini-series which are available with English subtitles. Other Asian countries like Korea and Japan also make excellent historical series. They all have deep history to draw from.

that's true, Asian countries have rich histories that provide great inspiration for historical mini-series. It's wonderful that many of them are available with English subtitles for a wider audience to enjoy.
Since 2012, the Forbidden City has seen an average of 14 million visitors annually, and received more than 19 million visitors in 2019.
In Frank Herbert's DUNE the BENE GESSERIT sisterhood was based off of the Jesuit Priest evangelizing into other regions. Missionara Protectiva here is the use of math & science.

The original title for this video was something along the lines of "The First European Allowed in the Forbidden City" or something, which was a lot more interesting. I don't know why this was changed.

Always wondered why it was called the Forbidden City. It's where the emperor lived, of course it's forbidden. Might as well call Buckingham Palace the Forbidden Buckingham Palace 😂
because the actual Chinese name 紫禁城 literally translates to *"Purple Forbidden City-fortress"*
紫 refers to Polaris (the North Star), and in Chinese astrology the area around Polaris (including both Dippers, Camelopardalis, Scorpio, & Boöted) was considered the heavenly realm of the Jade Emperor. Hence, the Forbidden City is considered the earthly realm of the Jade Emperor, in this case the Son of Heaven (天子, ergo the Emperor of China)
