About wound care: another possible plausible theory could be that in addition to the antiseptic, anti microbial effects of honey, and that it’s potentially helping retain moisture, could it also be directly nourishing the damaged tissues as well?
After all, isn’t it understood that small amounts of nutrients are absorbed through the skin, hence why some skincare products will be enriched with things like vitamin E?

I lived in a small beach town in Mexico my friend who grew up there would sit there and not get bit by mosquitos while they would eat me alive.
He told me to eat a little bit of the local natural honey every day.

My Dad taught us really old German folk medicine. One of the most powerful medicines he swore by was cider vinegar and honey in spring water. The other thing was cold showers or cold plunges in the creek. And walking, especially in the bush. Honey treatment typically follows the protocol of wet and covered. 24h per day if possible, absolutely no need to ever "let it breathe". In particular for wounds and infections, the more contact the better. When treating a fresh wound or burn, do not let the wound scab...

Sorry, but this isn't true. Bees generally don't collect wind borne pollen. Wind borne pollen is what mostly gives an allergic response. Bees collect from flowers. Pollen from flowers doesn't just float into the air. So, you don't generate an allergic response to it. Also, no clinical trials have ever confirmed the wive's tale to be true. It's a bummer, I know. :-(

Hey Tom, you should look into something called propolis. Bees produce it by mixing their saliva and beeswax with resins and I believe it might be one of the major factors for the anti-microbial part of honey, it is also amazing for wounds and burns as you said. My parents when I was younger bought some of this stuff and they mixed it with pure alcohol and we used it as a disinfectant, but it was also amazing at healing cuts, sores, pretty much everything. @partlysimpson5154 some studies TRY to demonize keto and make internet strikes to plant in public an idea that people turn against keto, but it's just the same propaganda and just lies.
People thrive on low carb diets of any kind. All that studies against low carb, and the latest one shown on neflix, were not carried out correctly: the diet they put people on has nothing to do with ketogenic diet and people were not even near to the ketosis. So just research for yourself, and read real articles in medical magazines, and be critical. Carnivore studies are coming up soon, give them 3 years. I have a great respect and hope in Dave Feldman who is bringing the research forward.

    • @orchidmuse

Basically, I suddenly, at 46, started to grow larger with any carb food I ate, and I don't eat junk food, I cook myself, but it was mostly rice and noodles with some chicken, salads and vegetables, whole bread and some bakery. I presume, too big portions of rice and noodles... And my blood tests were all fine, and no menopause. But I gained like 8 kg in 1 year. I reduced the consume with no success - gained weight all the same.
So "just don't eat junk food" does not work for me and for lots of people who enjoyed high carb and high fat diet their whole life. Sometimes it is too much for one's organism and it signals a disorder.
Some people stay lean. There is no rule which can fit anyone. If you can eat healthy carbs and stay lean, active and healthy in your late 40s or 50s - that's your good luck. For me and alike, ketosis and low carb and zero sugar and fructose is the only cure.

Please note that most of the honey and wound healing is done specifically with Manuka Honey... and it works in several ways... by keeping wounds moistit enhances cellular motility so wounds can fill in more quickly - this is important for deep wounds and burns. The methylglyoxal is potentially the most powerful antibiotic known to man (with one study unable to find a human pathogenic bacteria capable of resisting). The peroxide effects also create an alkaline environment which benefits healing. And it is uniquely capable of dissolving biofilms... the action of honey on wounds is actually well understood... your little quip about not knowing is off base.

    • @buildyourownhuman
      @buildyourownhuman 6 месяцев назад +1

It is also no longer in the realm of folk cures. The majority of US hospitals keep manuka honey stocked now, particularly for ICU burn units, but also for MRSA and other resistant infections... steadily moving towards an all purpose use topical wound treatment.

The latest studies have shown that Insulin resistance and fatty liver is a cause for most metabolic health problems, that is why zero and low carb diet doctors insist on eliminating sugar completely. But who can restrict a free person? It's all an individual decision. No one can tell you how exactly your organism would react on eating honey or fruit, only your frequent blood test results could show you if you benefit from honey or not.
Moreover, most people are not well organised and struggle with cravings and emotional eating/ binge eating. Some might honestly start with a tsp of honey and then add fruit, and when you are not in ketosis, so well, why not add pizza or a cake to it. I mean, it's easier to say no to sugar and fructose as a basic rule and then let people figure out what is useful for them, individually.

The key takeaways from Thomas Delauer's detailed discussion on the health benefits of honey, despite its sugar content, include:
    1. **Moderate Consumption**: Honey should be consumed in moderation, treated more like a supplement than a main source of carbohydrates.
    2. **Lower Blood Sugar Impact**: Compared to other sweeteners, honey has a lower impact on blood glucose levels, making it a better option for those with diabetes or insulin resistance.
    3. **Improves Lipid Profile**: Honey consumption can lead to an improved lipid profile by increasing HDL (good cholesterol) and decreasing LDL (bad cholesterol), triglycerides, and particularly oxidized LDL, which is harmful to heart health.
    4. **Antioxidant Properties**: Honey enhances the body's antioxidant capabilities, reducing oxidative stress and potentially preventing various diseases.
    5. **Metabolic Health Benefits**: It increases levels of adiponectin, which improves glucose metabolism and fatty acid oxidation, leading to better insulin sensitivity and reduced systemic inflammation.
    6. **Wound Healing**: Honey is effective in accelerating the healing of wounds and burns, surpassing the efficacy of some antiseptic treatments due to its antimicrobial properties and moisture retention.
    7. **Brain Health**: Preliminary research suggests honey may protect brain cells from premature death by reducing oxidative stress, which could improve brain function and health as we age.
    8. **Respiratory Health**: Honey can alleviate symptoms of respiratory tract infections, including reducing the severity and frequency of coughs, likely due to its viscous nature and antimicrobial properties.
    9. **Inflammation Reduction**: Honey's ability to reduce inflammation may play a significant role in its health benefits, including improving insulin sensitivity and alleviating symptoms of respiratory infections.
Delauer's discussion underscores the importance of considering honey not just as a sweetener but as a beneficial supplement with multiple health advantages when used appropriately.

Honey is a plant product stored and slightly modified by bees so its not unlikely that various floral varieties produce varying effects.
A very important point to consider is the way its stored, aged and if and how much it is heated and filtered hence the term raw and natural honey .
Buying the new season honey off local producers is logical so the honey doesent get enzymes destroyed by heating in the decrystaliseing process ie heated over 40 ' Celsius
If possible find out how much heat is used in the extraction process although this usualy isn't extreem.

I agree, honey does help wounds. One day, a couple of years ago, like an idiot, I fell and busted my upper lip and suffered a deep gash. I did not go in to get it stitched, however, I opted to put honey on it for a couple of days, and within a week the wound seemed to heal and today there is no perceived scar. Since then I've used honey for these types of injuries.

😂😂😂 when I was a kid - now 69, my dad always told us to take Apple Cider Vinegar and honey on a spoon when we were sick. I tried it, and as a kid thought he was crazy.
Later when I was going to college I would discover how smart my dad was and he never went to collage. Then one day, I think it was a comedian, was explaining how smart his dad got when he started collage - of course that was very funny for me because I saw the truth. Now, even all these years later, with this new understanding of honey, it turns out that he was right again!
My dad passed away two years ago at age 93. He would have loved this segment on honey!
My dad was hard on us kids. A military man. He would make us jog around the block in our slippers and PJs while he rode a bike and smacked us with a belt if we slowed down. All to get us little bastards to become tired and go to sleep. Another one was standing in a corner if we talked after lights out! Many times I learned to fall asleep with my head resting where the two walls came together.
In a way I learned to be resilient, and I believe this helped me through life with a career as a firefighter….

And fermenting garlic in honey. Nature rocks

It raised my husband's blood sugar. He had a sore throat so I gave him a little raw honey I got from a neighbour. About a teaspoon.
Next day his blood sugar was way up.
I was shocked. Really did not expect that type of result.
Then I found the bottle. A quart jar which was almost full was almost empty. I think I figured out the problem.
Still have local raw honey in the house. I have some mixed with garlic as a super cold fighter. But I keep it all hidden.

      Now be honest:
Did you buy real raw honey from a local beekeeper?
Or did you buy the trash what they call "honey" in a supermarket which is mixed with glucose sirups? 😉
I live in Germany and buy my honey from a beekeeper directly once in a few months

Thanks for your thought. But nature is not a person with intelligence, and bees act on instinct.
Shouldn’t we be asking how the brilliant design came about? And entropy makes clear that it can’t be from random chances, no matter how much time is believed to be involved.
Just asking you to think about it.

Honey works on wounds and burns by killing bacteria that causes wounds to heal slowly and also it helps to reduce scaring, in my wife’s case no scarring after pouring boiling oil fat on her leg.
Also don’t apply honey to a bleeding wound and if it’s a burn wait until the heat is out of the area.
