---- Buying or Selling your boat? ----
Long story short........
Buying? Find the boat that YOU WANT (on the below websites) and Henry will negotiate well, look after you with all the paperwork every step with great communication.
Selling? Henry will go above and beyond for the seller (trust me, he did when I was looking at another boat he was selling), work hard to make the sale (he didn't give up with me), answer his phone and every email (he wrote back and replied to all emails and gathered all the info I wanted without question) and he knows the market well! He gained my trust as a buyer and you would be surprised how many brokers never even replied back to me or just didn't care! For that I'm so grateful and more than happy to refer him to anyone in the med looking to sell their boat.

Thanks for the video guys. Really appreciate it
Low Light Guy no worries, I tried to keep brief so it wouldn’t drag out but ask us any questions and I will get back to you guys!
Loving the vids guys! That Wedding party was wild! Polish vodka goes down way too easily. Its dangerous.
thank you!! it is dangerous alright....ahaha trying to keep up with the seasoned Polish drinkers was a bad idea.....
@@SailingSunday you can ever keep up with them.
Super video, great info and links!...you guys rock, that's why I subscribe...but also because you treat your dog in a really special and cool way...🤙
yaa63 thanks so much! Haha, yes he’s definitely part of the family!!!
@@SailingSunday Yeap...it's clear he is FAMILY😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much! Great info.
Will be watching all your videos! We are getting great ideas 💡 from you all! What I need to pack or not will I am presently gutting our all possessions to eventually Liveaboard! And, we currently doing the necessary renovations the past six weeks to market our home. It’s stressful but SO WORTH IT! That gives me the strength to just PUSH ON THRU! Lol 😂 we love Beneteaus 50 51 47 or 48 possibly bc top of cost maintenance etc etc. but it’s our Tiny Home and we too have PetS!!! Again, really appreciate all the info and your videos are amazing! I love how you all do your videos sailing teaching!
Great, informative video! Plus the clip at the end is hilarious. AHAH
Awesome, hope it helps a bit. Yeah the bit was a bit random but all my mates said I had to put it in... If I had of known we would have had almost 10,000 subscribers by now and giving a shout out to the broker I probably wouldn't have included it lol..... Actually, nahhhhh, I probably would have still put it in anyway haha
Classical ending lol thumbs up..
Hi guys, It’s me again...just got some time to get up to date with where you guys are at. The beneteau 57 looks beautiful mate. It is pricey that’s for sure. My wife Jodi thinks we should maybe get something a little smaller to start with. What’s your thoughts now that you’ve been at it for awhile?
Cheers guys and keep up the awesome vids!
Harvey LOVE hey thanks!!! I still love the 57 lol. Would be much harder to move around than ours, but you will feel comfortable with it very quickly.
I’m very happy with the 46 and very easy to move around especially with the bow thrusters incase we ever need them.
We have more than enough room for the 2 of us, well 3 of us I should say. I think 46’- 50’ is a great size for all on going costs and maintenance. Once you get over 50’ the prices just escalate from moorings, insurance, rego, maintenance, cruising taxes, fuel, lifting etc...
I’ve been on soooo many boats this summer (at anchor having beers with neighbors) and I have came to conclusion these newer 2014+ 43’-45’ boats have twice as much living space than ours. The 2017+ boats feel bigger again inside whilst still easy to move around in tight spots, some also now have stern thrusters for anchoring stern to the rocks which would be extremely helpful!
Taking that all into account there are some cons, the newer boats have a lot of electronics, eg, I met a guy who’s throttle broke down and he couldn’t fix it because it needed a software update or a special program to reboot it. He was stuck in a little marina somewhere on an island with no “tech guy” with the program to fix it, but that’s just one incident...
Hi, 3+ years watchn sailing vids, this is the most in-depth I've seen re 2nd hand purchase process (frustrating only finding it now). 3 years hindsight, what would you do different? (perhaps a vid of it's own)
Oh wow what an awesome comment thank you so much!! Glad you found it helpful!! Looking back there isn’t much we can think of that we would have done different to be honest! Haha but if we think of anything might be a great video topic as you said so stay tuned!!
that ending is epic!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
not my finest hour lol
@@SailingSunday bahahaha I thought it was epic as hell lol thanks for sharing bahahaha
Excellent show!
Great Video. My wife and I are living in Canada and are planning a similar adventure. We’re also looking for a boat similar to yours. Can you tell us what the total cost was for the boat plus ant initial repairs and expenses you had cover before your first sail? Sincerely appreciated. Gordon
Hi Ryan, I watch every episode and you make excellent videos. When you bought the boat, had the VAT been paid. I am negotiating on a Bavaria 45 currently which is not VAT paid. I live in the UK and the boat is in Italy, I plan to sail her across the Atlantic and spend time in the Caribbean and US. What would you suggest about VAT? Stay safe guys. Regards, Andy
Congrats on your new boat, when the previous own scratched off water-maker from the list, how did you guys proceed? Did he give you a price reduction? Also, did you do a survey and sea trial? Thx....
steve fuller yes, just before handing over payment, it was a slight upset and we re-negotiated there and then. The previous owner knocked a few thousand dollars from the price. Our broker is the person to thank for that, which is why highly recommend having a broker when sending money overseas. We had a survey, in Malta, but later found out it was done very poorly. Engine hrs were incorrect, the watermaker issue, etc... I even contacted the surveyor about certain points that were left off, he replied that he “visually checked” (eg watermaker) but forgot to test........ lol
Yes, we did a sea trial also. We weren’t present during the survey in Malta as I had just flown back to Australia from surveying the previous boat in Greece. The Surveyor in Greece was incredible! Actually I might link his details in the description also if anyone is looking in Greece area.
Polish vodka shots divide boys from man ;)
You’ve done not bad being able to climb the stairs .
Tip
Always nibble on kielbasa
Great work on those polish steps mate they can be tricky !
John Perry lol thanks mate! Definitely weren’t going to break any records, the unedited version is probably about 20minutes long! But thanks to Brittni I got there in the end! 😂
Hi guys. Great video! Just wondering where you download all those forms from? And how to work out which authorities they get sent to etc? Any help much appreciated. Thanks
Tim Whittaker I posted a link in the description which has all the info and forms to download (for Australia). If you’re from another country this would be a good guide, the forms will be similar, but you would need to email your maritime safety authority in your particular country to ask them.
It’s the register a vessel link I posted. The forms you will need are the AMSA 168, 157, 114 and 208... if you google them they might just pop up on google to download. But the link is very helpful.
You need to send all the forms to:
Australian Maritime Safety Authority Shipping Registration Office, Operations GPO Box 2181 Canberra City ACT 2601 Australia
But click on the “general registration” button from the link and it will give you a step by step on everything.
@@SailingSunday Thank heaps!.. really appreciate you sharing your advice.. sure is a challenging exercise.. with wife, two kids and dog in tow!. From New Zealand. BTW.. if you had a choice again would you still bring Jackson?.. lots of hassles?
Tim Whittaker yes definitely! Jackson is awesome!!! He brings a whole new dynamic to our travels. It is a lot of work but I enjoy walking him so to me it’s more fun then work! But we get off the boat (when not doing a big passage) 4-5 times a day and visit secluded anchorages we wouldn’t normally visit which is cool! With that said we do have limitations though as our days also revolve around him a lot and we can never both leave the boat together for weeks at a time to see family and friends in the future if we want to!
Ryan .......we all have been there......so dead drunk.
Not a good experience at all.
Quite a short version of how you bought the boat.
Jesmond Ciantar and no help from Brittni, just filming me lol...
yes tried to keep it quick for everyone and will answer any questions 😁
thank you for the awesome information and video!.. what about owning a boat in the EU? any suggestions?
Lol had a great laugh at the video of you walking up those stairs!! Great time at the wedding last year. Ps. This is Kasia’s brother haha
Hey mate!!! What a great night that was! The funniest thing about that is every Polish bloke knew, like they have all been in that position before, climbing those bloody stairs! haha!
love it! Cheers Sailing Sunday, maybe we will share an anchorage someday!
SV Avocet when will you guys be heading out around the world?? And where too first????
@@SailingSunday We push off asap, projecting the summer of 2020. Heading to Hawaii, then north to Alaska! then all the way down to Panama :)
Oh wow! We want to cross over the Atlantic, do some time there, then cross to Hawaii and head north aswell to see Brittni’s family in Vancouver!! But... baby steps first, only 4 months ago we were learning how to anchor!!!
@@SailingSunday nice! Cheers guys!
Very nice 👍
Rayn needs a beer and a hairdresser !!!!!!!!!!!!
Marc Wouters I would have grabbed a beer, but it was only about 8am when I filmed it 😂. I definitely need a hair cut, but keeping a bet from one of our earlier videos! 😊
bahaha probably a beer first!
👍👍👍😀💪
Hi lads.
Nice that you found yourself a cool boat. I have a question. Did you get a loan to pay for the boat and if yes, is that an amout you can actually pay in addition to your normal expenses (like an appartement, car etc.)? Or is this like your "house" and you live on the boat the majority of time?
I just started to get interested in buying a boat but i neither live close to a beach nor do i know anything about it :D. Was it easy to get the boat form Europe to Australia?
Hey mate, no we bought it outright just with an overseas transfer. We bought it in Europe with the hopes to sail it back over a year or 2 but decided to spend some more time here in Europe to gain more experience to safely cross the Atlantic ocean and pacific oceans!
Is there any way to get out of paying a VAT tax if you sail the boat out of Europe and you’re not European?
Hi Ryan,
just came across your channel while trying to fine more info about buying a boat in the EU and sail it back to Aus. We look at doing the same thing next year. struggling to find any info on the costs involved. wandering if you can share that info. Do you still have to pay VAT if you are sailing it back to Aus? Also do you have to pay GST and import tax if its going to take you over a year to get in back to Aus? Thanks for you time.
Hey! That’s awesome! There is always brokerage costs, for example, some countries advertise the final price and others like in Italy will advertise the price + 5% brokerage. Ours was VAT paid but if not, you can travel within the EU for 18months without paying VAT which means for example going to Turkey to reset the VAT clock every 18 months. Registration for AUS is a one off payment of a few thousand dollars. I had all the paperwork to check the boat was deregistered and easy for me, but I heard in countries like Greece you need a solicitor and cost some people many thousands of dollars so you want the “form” upon sale that the boat has/will be deregistered from their registrar so you can register it in AUS. When you arrive there’s I think 5% duties and 10%gst you need to pay when arriving. They value the boat when you arrive. Hope this helps!
@@SailingSunday Thanks for the info. extremely helpful. I'll probably get in touch with the broker you used. Do you still have the contact details of the surveyor you used in Greece?
@@herenorthere5352 I will check, he was really good. I will get back to you shortly

@@SailingSunday These are the financial Q&A's a lot of channels leave out, like hey we're willing to share our lives with the world, but not what it costs
tks bro...
How did your budget allow &100,000?? Inheritance, lottery, or hard work, smart decisions? Pretty young to spend that ki nd of money! Just curious! Thx
Duke Wright Hey mate, no worries, A mix of hard work, smart decisions and planning. I saved and bought my first home when I was a teenager. We started planning for this trip and saving 2 yrs ago and finally we sold our house and cars to buy our new home Sunday to start this journey. We now live simple on a tight budget trying to stretch this adventure out as long as possible!
@@SailingSunday Great for you guys! You wanted it, worked hard and saved, that's how it should be in life.
@@SailingSunday so impressed with you guys🍷🙏🍾
Hey Ryan, would you consider registering elsewhere rather than Aus or was that the only option?
Most people register to their home country, makes things easier! But there are many boats out here registered all over the place that aren’t their home😆 so to each their own!
@@SailingSunday Would you register in Au again, or better options elsewhere. incl for in$urance/cost purposes?
Skol!
Recently started watching from the begining of your channel. Getting serious "Amber Herd" vibes from the videos. Films you when you have over indulged, laughs when your dog is down after getting stung by a bee, and makes fun of you when you get hurt or are in general discomfort...careful as you go.
haha, thanks for looking out for me mate but I'm all ok and safe!!! (.....call 911.....).... hahahaha! Nah poor Jackson used to chase the bees constantly and try eat them, unfortunately, he still hasn't learned his lesson!!! lol
I desire buy a macgregor in Europe. Can you Help me?
I probably could not be much help we are in the Caribbean now 😂
Did you have to also pay to have the bought sailed back to Australia or did you pick it up from the UK yourself?
We bought it in Malta and we have been sailing in Europe ever since. We are about to Cross the Atlantic Ocean this year to get home at some point where I think we need to pay duties and tax when we finally arrive in Australia.
Did you have a down payment ?
We paid a deposit to the broker, I think it was about $10,000. Did the survey on the boat, signed the contract then transferred the rest to the broker. He dealt with the seller paying him etc then sent us the keys and bill of sale etc.
Okay thanks hun, I am having a really hard time getting around deposits\down payments . I tired to raise money for a deposit but got NOWHERE . saving the money will take a long time . And I recently was diagnosed with chronic diastolic heart failure. I still want to go sail so badly.
@@MelGetmanova Sorry to hear, I hope you are OK. We took the plunge and everything, sold our home and cars and bought the boat!
Hello, any chance to get the contact details of the broker you used please? oh, just saw the link... thanks
He was great! definitely give him a call if you are in the market... ..we were so glad we used him, particularly since we were purchasing overseas, he ended up saving us a lot of money.
did you have to pay GST registering in Aus?
We will have to pay 5% duties and 10% GST on the value of the boat, only once we arrive home with the boat.
@@SailingSunday I’m about to be slapped in the face with capital gains and trying to decide whether to go for it or reinvest to recapture some more equity.
