Very impressive. 5.7W/kg for 1:15. WOW. Painful to watch that pedaling style, but obviously extremely effective. I'd be curious to see an attempt at more physiologically friendly temp like 75-80F. Surely the effect of rolling resistance at high temperatures is less than the loss of power.
Nicely Done 👍 Wild, many cycling experts advocate higher cadences. Lionel smashes Mount Lemmon with an obviously lower cadence. Such a powerful guy. Phil has a big hill to climb to catch Lionel.
Awesome Sauce result❗️ If you had a head to head race up Mount Lemmon with Phil and Sam on the same day, do you think you'd go faster?? @Talbot we should make this a real thing 😀 Also.....when will we see you attempt an outdoor Everest on Mount Lemmon??
Hey Lionel. You are absolutely 100% the KOM of Mt Lemmon. I'm from Tucson and I've been following the KOM of Mount lemmon long before Strava. You were right on the money in your other video when you said that the real Mount lemmon goes all the way to the ski valley end of the road. By the way it starts at Mount Lemmon short road. if someone wants to take you on they should do it head-to-head and try to match what you have done. Backing up a stop sign and saying that is the start is ridiculous and cowardly. Well done Lionel.
Great advice there at the end about going after something you think you may fail in doing. I’m really hoping that this entire Covid disruption to the season has allowed Lionel to change things up enough ( but not too much ). so he can go into Kona with a bullet proof mind, body, strategy, and execution.
You are always a motivation. That quote about the blood going to your quads and your vocabulary whittles down to vulgarities was really funny and true.
He wasn't talking about his limits. He was stating what an equivalent FTP would be at sea level, in perfect conditions. There are always going to be external factors out of ones control in cycling, particularly altitude, when climbing a mountain. Lionel is far from an idiot.
Lionel u're a legend. Is this the beginning of Mount Lemmon becoming a cycling battlefield? Sth like Nurburgring race circuit? I'd love to see Cameron Wurf having a go :)
@@victordamianovic8450 putting out power in as aero TT position you can get is not going to be at your ftp, and as you saw in the video, Lionels ftp already isn't high enough, Just enjoy the fact he is crushing things as it is, how many world hour record holders could even come close in the run and swim? lol.
SO, the joy you need to discover now in something you are unsure of, IS to line up against Phil and Sam and winner takes all, now there is something that will get your adrenaline and F-bombs going, not to mention JUST how much money you guys could raise for your respective charities. A good old fashion drag race is just what your sponsors and the viewing public need now that things are relaxing just a teeny bit.
Do something you’re not sure you can complete. I was going to do my first full distance this year on pretty much that very premise. Next year... same mindset. 😁
Lionel has that old 80s style wide pedal stroke like he's stomping the life out of them, could just be his bio mechanics or you could potentially get a lot of efficiency by perfecting that.
It's definitely working for LS, kind of between grinder and spinner but always progressing with power. Gaimon appears to be strength through flexibility, high cadence, hip rotation and maybe on the hoods more. Lionel being down on drops is probably natural from thousands of miles aboard TT bike. Lionel in Georgia and get Phil's KOM? Alpe du Huez?
Nice ride! Are those elevations correct on the last 2 KOMs on your slide that had the 3 climbs? It said the Mt lemmon was 400-500ft more than Mt Lemmon official. That seems like too much delta.
I was unaware that riding in a higher temperature is faster than cooler conditions. I accept that higher temperture will make the air thinner,, but doesnt the heat drain the body of its energy faster? I normally feel better in the low 60's to get better times
"Hoping for a new max heart rate..." of what...145?
Thats settled then, Mount Lemmon triple crown for team LS 👑 👑 👑
😀LS...You're the Beastmaster..great effort Lionel 💪👍

Beautifully shot by Talbot... you had your butt kicking boots on for that climb LS... now I really want a Canyon aeroad!
Amazing effort and video! Talbot those drone shots were perfect 👌
I was wondering if Erin is working the drone now or if Talbot was there - great footage!
Used to do this ride 35 years ago, there used to be a ML Time Trial. Good to see this ride is as challenging now as it was then.
I'm pretty sure Sam does not feel like getting on a plane.
Lionel Sanders, a genetically altered hybrid cycling cyborg sent from the future to take all the KOMs.
Check out Phil Gaimon, that's what he does.
You are such a beast. Love the cliff hanger made me really get involved in the attempt 👍🇳🇿
Love mt lemmon, been up a few times. On tough climb., only for the brave!! Tucson is such a triathletes paradise!! 😎💪
that drone footage at 4 minutes in... outstanding!
Phil Gaimon would have made several modifications to your bike to make sure you were optimized. Always pumped to see you laying down the ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
I hope he has another segment from before the stop sign 😂
Love it and I feel like all your data analysis after was just to get in Phil’s head

Great vids Lionel! Keep them coming! Inspires me and lights me up as an athlete!

Great effort.. just a thought.. could you fit some mini Tri bars to your bike for the flat + gradual climbs???.. some seconds to shave there
Really like that - Doing something that you dont know if you can complete!
Love the shot around 9:04 when you see the other biker you fly by. Amazing effort.
awesome lionel.. talbot's vid's are getting really good too
This video is so well done! Really impressive! And, of course, great ride Lionel! Great video too!
Damn, that climb looks so amazing! would love to have a go on it someday!
HAHA!!! Super motivating! Thank you Lionel Sanders #badassonabike
Wonderful photography and video montage, both in this and the last video!

NEXT CHALLENGE: KOM MOUNT LEMMON RUNNING!!!
You are always a motivation. That quote about the blood going to your quads and your vocabulary whittles down to vulgarities was really funny and true.
Sam has left the chat.
I know he loves tri, but......... cycling is his obvious best gifting.
The intro fool me:) good job mate.
You da man lionel, great message @ the end too
It would be fun to watch you & Phil go head to head on this climb at the same time. I bet you’d push each other to a new record time.
Lionel is a beast! He is so motivating!
Great challenge and huge portion of motivation, thans, you're the best!
The quality of these videos is getting unbelievable
Seems like your biking is improving during this pandemic, awesome work!
Wow Lionel great job! Thanks for sharing
Haha, loved the motivation and commitment!! Great video and no need to apologize for anything!! ;P

Spends no less than half the video mathematically dissecting his physiological and environmental limits.

Only just come across your channel, love it. But that helmet is making my head itch and hot just looking at it....I need vents 😣😂😂😂
Content getting better and better from my favourite triathlete. Love your motivation to compete (listening to breakfast with Boz)
So cool, great effort! Lionel, if you could switch to a TT bike and maintain good power numbers you could really smash it!
Please more KOM Attempt content. It's very funny :D

Hey, if u take off the 60 profile of the wheel and put a 45 profil i think u can go much faster. And move better the bike on the climb.
Lionel has that old 80s style wide pedal stroke like he's stomping the life out of them, could just be his bio mechanics or you could potentially get a lot of efficiency by perfecting that.
Man is doing 400W+ at 130bpm. I think he knows a thing or two about efficiency.
@@0mym Hmm he knows about producing power but maybe could be more efficient as well...
u mean efficient like a pro cyclist, like Chris "the spider humping a burrito" Froome?
Yea Dwight from nowheresville who knows fuck all, give the one time triathlon world record holder Lionel Sanders advice on pedal stroke. Much respect!
