I swear Marty looks better and better every year. I don’t know how he does it, he’s like a fine wine! Great interview and always good to hear more insight.
The reason Star Wars lost its creative integrity is due to the expanded universe and endless movies. The idea that everything can be blown up into an infinite amount of stories and still hold some kind of meaning is ridiculous

I actually think: No Marty & Mike = No Halo. They are excellent standalone composers, but there was something about the both of them working together that, to me, is so much better. I hope they work together again sometime in the future. Speaking of, it would be awesome to get a similar podcast with Mike! He has done some solid work with Destiny, and I'm sure he has some Grizzled Ancient Bungie stories to tell that we haven't heard yet.
@@TwoQuickOnes yes everyone at Bungie did, but remember Mike is his business partner in TotalAudio, which is pre-Bungie. They were composing together long before they touched even Riven.
This was fantastic. One of the best interviews with an artist I’ve seen for a long time. Asked all the right questions. So many great insights here. Could’ve listened to hours more.
Hope Marty can reupload the rest of the big stage episodes one day and continue the series. Really enjoyed that series along with all the other old halo videos.
Marty returning would be the dream. Lots of people say “durr stop stringing them up and neutering their creativity” but here you have it, straight from the horses mouth. The man wants to do it and it’s missing a certain swag without him. And considering the lingering thematic elements that are still there from the previous trilogy until now…the man would have a field day with them. Now if only they could get a story together worth all of that potential.
It was so good to hear Marty talk about how important the title screen and loading screens are. They are as fundamental to the experience as playing the game is, to me. Don't get me wrong, I love higher frame rates and higher resolution. But the MCC is just missing some key components that have me switching my 360 on to play.
Thats crazy. I was literally just thinking today why marty's drum sequences sounded so familiar. And it hit me this afternoon. Its phil collins. It sounds EXACTLY like phil collins.
It's upsetting that the magic, ambience and atmosphere that the original trilogy captured cannot be replicated in the new games. It actually upsets me because of the emotion that was orchestrated though pieces like Under the cover of night, Halo Reborn.
Oh... You absolutely can make others feel something without ever feeling it or knowing it yourself... You just won't be able to know exactly what emotion is being produced... Meaning the idea of the emotional value being put forward... May be taken as an opposite emotional value... Example... Im very... Understanding of my emotions... But when it comes to portraying it... It comes out as emotionally mono tone to me...
Wow you can tell these guys, excluding Marty, don't really know much about Halo. They couldn't remember the electric guitar in Rock Anthem For Saving the World in Halo CE??! It's so prominent within the opening seconds of the song. They need to do much more research before inviting Marty and Michael for that matter. Marty is thinking these guys are scrubs.

IIRC, Marty helped write the plot of the game. Key people weren't talking to one another at the time, so Marty and others had to chip in. In the making-of doc he can be heard saying there wasn't enough death in the story, essentially. That said, I wasn't there, but that's what I've heard.
@@perseusmandate4052 I should've clarified, Marty himself has said Joe Staten and Marcus Lehto were having a tiff at the time. So for a while Halo 3 didn't have much of a cohesive story. This info is out there if you go looking for it.
@@perseusmandate4052No. It’s well known that Bungie at the time was a mess. The lead dev and Bungie cofounder, Jason jones had stepped away from halo by halo 3. He did very little work and had little invoivemnr as he was burnt out on the franchise and busy sketching out the frame work for their next IP and the future of Bungie. Anyway this left a huge leadership void in Bungie and all the higher ups had different ideas for where the game and story should go. And this created division in the company.
Why DON’T the fans buy the HALO IP from Microsoft? It’s probably at its lowest value right now. There are millions of Halo fans around the world of varying levels of wealth who could contribute. Even a dollar from every fan would be millions alone, and outside investors could be sought as well. It’s really just math.
Just math as an abstract that doesn’t take reality into account. Halo is an integral aspect of the Microsoft and Xbox brand. They can’t afford to just sell it. It isn’t a good look at all and would damage their entire brand and reputation. Not everything is for sale. Just because you have the money doesn’t mean you can obtain it
I think selling it would be a bad look for the Halo brand more than Microsoft. I think it is still math in the end. There would be a point at which the monetary value is greater than the brand value, money with which they could create new IP. Say 1 Trillion dollars for arguments sake. Rare and its associated IP was the biggest developer for Nintendo for instance, but eventually a price was offered that was greater than its IP value and they sold.@@EggEnjoyer
@@silas1414 Rare was never as integral to the Nintendo brand as Halo was to Xbox. If Xbox loses Halo, you can expect Xbox to go along with it. It’s the one cultures foothold that the Xbox brand has. It would totally ruin the Xbox brand.
@@EggEnjoyer I love Halo and will always associate it to Xbox but Halo's image has taken a beating this last decade with only one primary game released in the last eight years, and that game was divisive to say the least. It seemed that all I saw was negativity in response to the last Halo release, and Microsoft continued strong in the years between despite a Halo release. I think the public image of Halo and the interest in the IP and the fandom was degraded in the years after Reach, unfortunately.

Just for the record, Halo has as much potential as Star Wars, I'd go as far to say it has more creative integrity.
Halo's potential has been totally squandered.
