    That is an unfair comparison because the rzr is specifically made for sport riding and the commander is specifically designed for utility use. If your going to do a comparison with the rzr do the rzr vs.maverick.

    I work for a rental company who owns both machines, and for the most part, this video is right. What they don't say is that the welds on the Polaris are junk, we've had to do repairs many times. Also, it's Can Am's first year with the Commander, so there are bugs to work out (false trouble codes, jerky transmission). However, we put the Can Am and RSR S 800 in a drag race on pavement and the race was over in the first 50 feet.

    They should compare a Ranger to the Commander.

  • @robbyrobs23
    @robbyrobs23 10 лет назад +5

    The driver of the Commander breeaked just as he approached the all wheel drive test, making it more difficult to progress over the slope. Compared to the Polaris which took the slope on a roll making it easier to climb over. This video segment is definitely sponsored and funded by Polaris!

    I have a rzr s and I do like it my parents had a commander x I could definently tell it had more power the rzr is better for tight trails and uneven terrain it just handles better but they are two different machines meant for different general purposes and both amazingly fun to drive. Now they have a maverick and I won't even compare my 800s to that

    the RZR S is the sport version but the commander was not, the sport commander (the MAVERICK) VS the RZR S would be the best way to go

    everyone keeps saying compare it to the maverick, well the maverick did not exist when this video came out. however Polaris loves doing these compare vids when it has a leg up, the xp1 has been out for 8 months now, the maverick for over a year, still no compare vid from Polaris, what are they afraid of? the xp1 is worse than the xp900, all the hype about it being the fastest sxs, its just that... hype. this compare vid should have been against a ranger not the rzr s. can ams products are built with far more quality.

  • @ebuff57

    Why doesn't Polaris make another comparison of the Maverick vs their RZR 1000?

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  11 лет назад +3

    I suppose Polaris can do whatever they want, and if Can Am wanted to make a video they could compare the Maverick to the Ranger diesel if they wanted - it's all just sales hype. ;-)

  • @jarretttelford3412
    @jarretttelford3412 9 лет назад +4

    This comparison is invalid. The Commander is Can-am's version of the Polaris Ranger. If you would have compared the Maverick and RZR you would have completely different results

  • @beaubrewer6239

    for all of you commenting saying it should have been the commander vs ranger you are right but, when this came out can am made the commander to compete with the rzr at the time. Also to comply with what i said about the commander being produced to compete with the rzr when can am released it they called it a SPORT utility vehicle. I believe they still refer to it as that also. But some other are right also the video polaris made might be a little biased but if you are a can am fan or distributor would you not be biased. At the end of the day at the time this video was made the commander was built to compete with the rzr.

    I just bought a new '14 SXS. Looked at the RZR S and it seemed OK. Felt cheap though. Moved on to the CAN AM commander 800 and it was no comparison. The CAN AM is far superior in quality, which is why I bought the commander 800.

    Valid point there, i missed the disclosure of that info in the video.
    Competition always brings a better product to the consumer in the end. That, was very big of said company, giving that info out about there product, "being of lesser quality".
    I see Can Am in a different light now, thank you for the feedback, and you time

    .I had a rzr with 3400 miles. This was all in one year. If i didn't have warranty on it. It would of ben expensive. I replace bushing all around twice plus both rear shock once. Primary clutch came apart and took the secondary out, rear and front cvt cover and belt. Replace front drive shaft. The up keep is nut I had to grease it every 200 miles so it would keep the a harm tight. If not you feel it in the steering. I had to clean the air filter box because oil would seep in to it.

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  13 лет назад +2

    @revis23 Here's how it works ;-) The RZR owner goes hunting, gets up into the high country, makes his shot, then waits for the Commander owner to get up there just as season ends. But the Commander will gladly haul the Elk out because it makes him look good. Meanwhile the RZR guy's down signing up for his next season's tags.

  • @nuckenfuts12

    The RZR is a sport based UTV the Commander is a all around vehicle. Polaris made this video to be focused on sport this really proves that Polaris built a sport UTV and Cam Am made a all around UTV.

    I am in a wheelchair and before my accident I owned a outlander 800 and a raptor 660. I sold my sports quad and kept the utility. Purely because it was so much fun. On outrides sports quads really battle to keep up. And I had to constantly rescue them in mud and rocks etc. Now I enjoy my side by side for same reason. The wheelchair guy winch and rescue the sports guys.

    I have owned 3 polaris' and the crap I put them through was a lot more than people would even think about mud, jumping and working I used the to their full potential started with ranger then ranger 4 then rzr 4 seater and each of them served their purpose but never lasted me more than 2 years each, so I picked up a commander and minus the 4 seater option, huge negative, hasn't steered me wrong yet it's been one year and only major repair is CV boots. No mods on any by the way.

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  13 лет назад

    @gp40mc Not sure. It does look like a pretty good unit and would be good to test, but with the economy (and this industry specifically) test units are very hard to come by.

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  11 лет назад

    I guess you guessed wrong! We have no sponsors, our income comes only from the ads on our website and here on You Tube. We didn't do a comparison because we were too honest in our previous evaluations of Can Am machines and they will no longer supply us with test units. Now Polaris has done the same thing...
    If any media outlet says something the manufacturers don't like they stop sending test machines. So remember that whenever you are reading or watching ANYBODY's tests ;-)

    Try to keep a belt on the Polaris,crappy clutching. My friend went through at least 12 belts and clutch kit put on by the dealership. Finally all new clutches,by then had enough of going back and forth to the shop for many other problems.He even tried the more expensive belt (180.00) to no avail.He bought it new and sold it. Now he has a Commander,and says he just loves it.

    just bought a 1000 xT. Had a chance to buy a RZR 2 years ago, but bought the Rhino instead. I need the the tilt box option and RZR never offered it. 1000 xT will be my UTV for alot of years.

  • @VSUPARHAM
    @VSUPARHAM 13 лет назад +1

    As good as this comparison is, the correct commander isn't used. The 1000XT is a great machine, but a more direct competitor for the RZR S would be the 1000 X. The fox racing shox and the the front sway bar would make a huge difference in all these test. I am yet to see a comparison of these two models other than in a drag race.

  • @gregrowe1168
    @gregrowe1168 8 лет назад +2

    I remember watching this video years ago. It was a mismatched comparison even then. Granted Can-Am hadn't released the Maverick yet but the machines were so different that they weren't really in the same class. The Teryx, even the new ones, would have all the same faults the the Commander had and Kawasaki claims its sporty too. Kawasaki needs to build a real sport utv to compete. The Pioneer 1000 would be less sporty than that dated Rzr 800s too. The Rzr is simply lighter than any utility based utv. The Rhino was the only thing comparable in weight back then and it was not a sporty machine at all. Even today, 5+years later, take any utility based utv no matter the displacement or power and it wouldn't keep up with a Rzr 800s because of greater size and weight. But the 800s became obsolete because the competition came up with more powerful 60" machines so Polaris had to put a 900cc engine and then finally a 1000cc engine in it to compete.

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  13 лет назад

    @geech08 Thanks. We're glad you enjoy our reviews! We have tried and tried to get a Commander from Can Am. Yes, we could get one from our friends at Jorgensen's but why would we want to review a machine that the manufacture isn't willing to give us? If we don't like it, it looks like sour grapes. If we do, we reward Can Am for not helping us. No win situation.

  • @ATVTVCOM

    @TheMontanaDave Actually, remember the RZR's engine is right behind the seats. The bed could dump I suppose but Polaris designed the RZR for trail riding not working.

    As much as I agree that this video is fake, I do have a few replies to your problems:
    2) The RZR has a lower center of gravity, but the S package has more ground clearance
    3) The S isn't loaded. The "loaded" ones have special graphics, it used to be a big Walker Evans sticker, but this year I think they call it the "XC" package.

    Do you think you will ever test the Gator XUV 825i? It looks like its the first gator to ever be able to give something like a Ranger or a Rhino a run for its money in terms of speed or handling. The older gators appeared to be more built for work and less for play.

    I love Polaris. I have a rzr 900 s. But this is one of the dumbest things I've seen from them yet. The comparison is totally invalid. These are 2 different vehicles. The Commander is a utility vehicle built to compete with the Ranger 900 xp. The rzr is a sport vehicle. It's supposed to weigh less and have more suspension travel in the front. Its built for work.

  • @ATVTVCOM

    yeah, i am looking into getting me a UTV for my bday, which is tomorrow, but i am looking for one for play, and i noticed that the Commander 1000 from Can-Am has a wider width, which usually goes for traction, such as pulling a small trailer full of wood behind it, i think the Can-Am 1000 is more of a worker than something to have fun with, but i would like to have one for being as cheap as they are, but i think Polaris RZR XP 900 EFI,i think it'll handle me l0l

Price is so close on all 3 that it's a non issue. I mostly go for spirited trail rides with Rzr's, Rhino's and Teryx's in NY State, poker runs, hunt, and clean trails. No dunes, racing, jumping, etc. Whats your opinion?

    The Wildcat vs the RZR XP would be a great comparison. I think the XP handles considerably better....but we haven't had the chance to compare them head-to-head as Arctic Cat won't loan us one for that...

    @szettervall I know there are way too many comments to read, but I have stated over and over again (including at the beginning and end of this video) that it was a Polaris-made video that I thought was interesting enough to put up here. Notice as well that Can Am has not even offered up their own video in defense - one I know they have on their website.

    well I still buy a commander because he has a bigger trunk, but does the trunk dump in the RZR S?

    @qcforever5 Exactly what part of "This video was done by Polaris" did you miss?

    Just putting a little 'reality perspective' in this. I've been a motorsports editor far a long time and know that when the radar detector comes out a lot of hype goes away ;-)

    Since it's 'BY' Polaris would you expect anything else?

    The problem with that is that at the time Polaris made this video there was no Maverick - and no XP1000 by the way either ...
