I love Arc, but I’m not sure about Arc Search yet

So they’ve already pushed an update that adds more search engine options, which is good to see. Rude of them to make my video out of date within minutes of posting it, though 🫣
It was only slow because it was the first day and everyone was using it at the same time. Lightning fast now
Oh really? Great to know. Still waiting for that Android app lol.
I love Arc on Mac. It helps me increase productivity in my day to day. On mobile, it feels like Arc is directionless, offering solutions in search of a problem. My ideal Arc mobile browser is just a good browser like Safari, with sync to Arc desktop. If they started with that baseline and add features on that I’d be happy.
can u please explain why safari is better than brave?
@@incshadow5908if you have to ask then you don’t need it.
@@incshadow5908how is that related?
It feels the same on windows (for now) to be honest.
For me it's much much faster than what you were getting in this demo.
i havent had a problem with speed trying on mine. seemed faster than this, couldve been some kind of load issue or something. but overall its pretty barebones but if you just want a quick search seems to cut the fat so not a bad app at all imo
I'm loving Arc search on my iphone! I only installed it a week ago (May 2024) and it seems to have grown a BUNCH since this video was made. I made arc my default browser on all my devices (finally has windows app as well).
7 Apr: It works lightning fast for me and it gives the source of the data as well!
I love using arc search. Wish I could use my account to resume between Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Windows.
I’d love to be able to open links into apps. For example, discord convo, someone posts a Twitter link, normally that would open into Safari and Safari would have a little pop up saying open in Twitter. But no such option happens in Arc which makes it unusable for me personally. But I love the concept of trying something new.
It’s definitely not this slow for me. I wonder if they fixed this too? Takes 5 seconds at most for me now.
3:03 idk maybe there was some kind of an update but by now you can change your search engine for any popular search engine including kagi and perplexity
6:00 this is also my number one gripe. If it shows me a result, I wanna know which of the websites it referenced so I can go directly to that site and dig into it.
So the pitch is that it’s a faster way to micro-browse internet. I say micro-browse coz it’s usually quick searches.
For that you’ve google and “browse for me” as options - user decides. One gives instant google results and one browses details and collates the info on a page. Former is best for info and latter for more deeper reading.
I don’t see the “slow” part as a problem anywhere.
I really like Arc Search's UX (the card metaphor that is rather like iOS' task switcher) and also that it features an adblock. Previously to get a similarly seamless browser adblock the best option was to install Brave, which has not great UX.
I just downloaded this app but I tend to use Co pilot app from Microsoft or Pi app from inflection Ai
I tried it the first day and was very disappointed by how slow it was but I just tried it and it’s damn near seamless
My biggest problem with the browser is that there isn't any autofill support. Password fields dont even prompt you to open saved passwords on the keyboard, which is a deal-breaker for me. Also some of the animations are sluggish, like closing tabs and swiping up the search bar. Would love to use this in the future though, very promising!
I think they fixed it now cuz i just installed arc search and it has autofill
If this video was in real time, it has been way faster than that for me even from day one. Usually like three seconds, and I get the initial content on the page.
Wasn't their a Mac app that did this like 20 years ago?
4:08 I just know that app, and after installing the app on my phone and testing it myself. its generate the summarization of the websites instantaneously with amazing quality! I absolutely felt in love with that, except that I am still a mainly safari user so the arc search will most like be the auxiliary browser that is extremely likely to replace safari for me. with the only problem being that, I dont think arc is that great yet on Mac and switching between tabs on iPhone is not as convenient as well as handoff some of the times.
copilot in the edge browser already does this, whats the difference
I think safari should also add the iOS app switcher style to their tab view
Perplexity does something similar but is wayyyy faster. So is Copilot.
i love the animations
I tried it for several queries searching for some market information. The results are controversial, not validated - just combined texts from top-10 links in the search engine by the same query, which is not sufficient and yes it is really hard to evaluate the data without seeing the source, context. I suggest, a more deep collection of data should be made, the answer detailes - checked, compared, somehow validated - this is what a human brain does, but Arc doesn't.
Please do a re-review. you can set default browsers now, and the browser for me is way faster. they also have some neat new ai featuers like summarize and you can share the browse for me pages
Just startet some browse for me searches and it’s really fast. Max 5 sec
Arc search AI is hella fast now
It says where it comes from 🤔
I love Chrome, Firefox and Edge
when will arc coming to windows really? it's already 2024
You need to re-review this. It’s quicker and seems to cite the sources.
My problem with them is their requirements for you to be 17+ to use the app/download it and their privacy policy
So... just like chrome?
+1
Side note: that clip on Lav is really distracting. At least wear a black shirt.
IT IS ONLY SLOW FOR YOU, not everyone. My and many in the comment section it works faster than yours. 4-5 secs max.
it literally says reading from these sources....basically defeats the whole point of your video in which you repeat the same point about not giving credit.
Not slow for me.
Co pilot app from Microsoft is better than this...
