    Love it how people assumed that they could buy a pinball and sell for more indefinitely! It has rarely been the case with NIB machines, but over Covid prices went silly - high demand and low supply. Now with a mix of inflation and cost of living things are coming back to normal - where a 2nd hand/used machine is being sold for LESS than new- and people cannot seem to comprehend the fact that an asset can go down in value over time.

      It seems a lot of people concentrate on Covid, but the price issues began long before that. People were buying NIB LE versions of almost every Stern release because they knew that they could flip them for a profit, or even if you wanted to actually own and play it for awhile, chances were still good that you could sell it for what you paid or more. Covid just increased demand and therefore prices, and now we are seeing a market correction.

      For reference the last pair of games I sold as an operator/tech to a well known mn restorer was in 2008. It was a pair of well used Attack from mars and a Mesival Madness for 1200 each. That same day I ordered a csi from Jack for 3795 shipped. Pinball is not the same. Its demographic shifted from camaraderie to more about look what I have and you don’t the newest best thing. A flux of people with either Boredom searching for the next hobby to binge dump money on as they maxed out their other hobbies cars maybe wine who knows etc., and those that just had to much money in general. It’s a very fine line and it’s not like a ok boomer thing all you have to do is research rgp from Usenet days to pinside boom. Two massive different types of people and it’s sadly not good as it’s again Middle Aged well to do white likely Republican demographic. Statistically speaking. Which was the beging basically of a elitist mentality which also jaded lots of people in the sense of I have it
      You don’t the next best thing and didn’t buy 5 of them to flip you must be a democrat on food stamps type persona and oh yes it exists just like that as it’s documented on forums at that time. Anyway it pushed lots of people out of hobby including myself. Wasn’t a casual thing I was deeply ingrained in the arena in game sales finding games actually shopping games. Not just wiping down the middle but taking everything off and charging 300 to do it. People used to fly me out to shop their collection and it was
      fun. Then the Jody/Jared era happened at stern and it legit turned dark like influencer we know how to tap into sectors and vibe stuff. People paid 6500 for bastard TF le and it was the beginning of end. We all knew they had to evolve but they turned into cash grabbing ride the demographic. Idiocy. Which in turn drew more elitist I need this 15k game to be relevant and then rinse repeat which attracts people that don’t celebrate the culture more so the pebble beach trailer queens not even the owners drive or enjoy. Like Dr Jones maybe I belong in a museum. But I miss my 900$ Bsd or 900$ JD. I tried to buy a wh20 resto candidate and it’s going for over what I sold my last full playfield Marco swap did.

  • @TheGamingHoser
    @TheGamingHoser 9 месяцев назад +1

    I don't think those prices are strange considering they're all games that are still being produced or easily available NIB. If I'm deciding NIB or used, it has to be a pretty significant price difference for me to go choose used. People will have to take a significant hit if they're selling a machine used that's still available new. If people keep their games long enough that there's no option to buy "new", you should be able to get close to a new "pro" price if its still a highly desirable game. If it's a less popular game, don't expect people to ever pay "full price" when they have so many good NIB options they could pick.

    Can't blame Stern... they're just doing what any business would do. What you need to look at is the community. Over the past, 4 years or so... I don't think I've ever seen a community more dedicated to destroying themselves. I've watch Stern, JJP, American, etc etc release stinker after stinker... and the idiots in the hobby with more money than sense (seems to be about 90% of the community) just gobble everything up. Now the manufacturers KNOW they can charge anything they want for whatever crap license they got, and these idiots WILL buy it.
    Thousand bucks for a topper that's just the same toy that's on the playfield and a few leftover Black Knight fireplaces? Sure!
    A new re-re-release of a machine that was supposed to be "LIMITED"... sure!
    Constant price increases with no quality increase? SURE!
    Added costs for a QR scanner that most people don't give a flying **** about? SURE!
    Hey, mind if we put advertisements for games you ALREADY DIDN'T WANT on the machine you actually did want? SURE!
    Sorry your 4th NODE board (usually 8) fried... we'd let you fix it yourself, but if you're buying these games from us you're too stupid to do that... so that'll be another few hundred bucks every few months since we don't bother with actually checking the quality before we sell it. Hell, we'll even put refurbished boards on new machines to save a buck! Good luck!
