is there any chance they go crazy with hivemind too?
maybe normal empire into hivemind? or maybe into gestalt?
5:32 Who's Rick the cube?I'm a newcomer,you see...
To quote the Geth concerning ship designs: "Windows are a structural weakness." These machine ships are so well designed and thought out.
@@PLonexXx What are you talking about, radiators transmit heat via thermal radiation, you don’t need any “medium”.
Windows are also a security advantage. As they found out literally in that same mission.
@@VaprousEh, if you can build space warships you can build a system that can accomplish the same thing without putting such big weak points in the hull
In the Battletech universe, there's a very expensive process that can be used to make metal as transparent as glass. They use it to make the cockpits of mechs.

Y'know, no matter how much Paradox pisses me off every now and then...
Things like this is why I keep giving them money.
IKR... it's crazy.
Love/hate relationship with all of us. It's bizarre.
That bird cyber portrait has me thinking Cyber Egyptian spiritualist.
Imhotek
Jaffa! Kree!
Somebody tell Hammond of Texas to ready his warriors for battle, the SystemLords are back!
If you’re talking about the one I think you are that might be a bit touch since that’s a synthetic portrait. From what they’ve said it seems like spiritualists still dislike synthetics, and the unique origin only allows spiritualists to accept cybernetics.
They have said though that species that start as synthetics can be spiritualists, but you won’t be able to start as the birds and then go through synthetics if you do that
A perfect mix of roman and eygptian ☆
Alright, now THIS is a meaty expansion. Events, new playstyles, portraits and a shipset!
Yeah they seem to have dun guud on this one.
Agreed, but it does make me worry.
I haven't seen paradox do something this ambitious since Leviathan.
Leviathan did not turn out very good, as the DLC and free release especially were full of bugs.
My reluctant hope (and extreme concern) grows with every dev diary. Hopefully they can redeem themselves.
The more I learn about this DLC. The more reasonable the 25$ price seems. It was already reasonable with the new megastructures, endgame crisis, and player crisis. Now it is even more reasonable.
Yeah, that reminds me that I need to buy the Season Pass.
40 Euro for this DLC + the next 2 seems like a very fair deal.
Sure, we do not know how good the next 2 DLC will be, but since this DLC alone is worth 20-25 bucks, the other two will easily be worth 10 bucks / each.
I for one am now shocked it wasn't $40 with this much content of such high quality
how tf is this 25 dollars man... it's crazy that we're actually getting DLC that adds lots of content for just a cheap price.
@@luzekiel9343went and bought the whole season 8 a lot of content coming out.
@@luzekiel9343 My thoughts exactly. No idea where the complainers get off.
If you know about ship modding you understand why they're releasing two new species packs. You can't introduce a shipset without an accompanying species. You ever download a random ship modset and notice an empty junk species in the list of species creation, like the machine shipset creating an empty machine species. So if they introduce cybernetic ships, they necessarily must add a species for it; it's just the way the game has been coded. They can't release a shipset without an associated species set.
Thats actually really funny. More ships for us.
I guess that's connected to how an empire which is created adopts the ship set of its species not its parent empire. When I release vassals I notice they don't have my choice of ship.
What about the imperial ship set though?
@@democracydignityhumanrights I did try to mod the shipsets once (unsuccessfully) the Imperial set was the only one in a different folder to the rest
I can only guess that since its assigned to the custodian/Galactic Emperor ships and never to any species unless you custom create them that it's a special case.
@@MediumRareOpinions interesting, and makes total sense. Do you automatically get these ships when you become the custodian/emperor yourself or do AI get them? I can’t remember because it’s been a long time since I did that, I usually role play and that just hasn’t come up in my ideas for a while and the AI hasn’t managed to pull off either in any of my games.
I really like these portraits and ship sets, but I really wish they would go back to all the old portraits and give them cyberization and synthetic options as well. I know that would be a lot of work, but I really want my six eyed cyborg merchant rats to also get cybernetic portraits.
This expansion is goddamn massive.
that first cybernetic one looks like a certain YTuber's avatar turning into a toaster
A unexpected addition but a welcome one indeed.
Machine Age? More like Awesome Drip Age! Those portraits and those shipsets, oh the shipsets! look absolutely stunning!
Praise be the mommysaiaha
Heretech! Everyone knows it's the Momnissiah!
@@iainballasMomnissiah 🤤🤤🤤
Honestly, I would love them to rework all the portraits in general. They did their job when it was released back in 2016, but you can really tell which ones were made later in the DLC cycle and which ones are from launch
It appears like the ascension will only be visual for a select few species portraits. This brings a multiplayer disadvantage to anyone using those portraits as everyone else will know which path they are going on. While a know it would require an absurd amount of art, I was hoping all current species would get visual cyber and synth upgrades.
I can finally roleplay as Bird Person from Rick and Morty!
9:06 Agree -- I immediately thought of the United Empire when I saw that ship set
Stage 3 mf's embracing the machine.
Not knowing they have to recharge every week or else they die.
So do you. It's called eating food.
We already do that by breathing, drinking, eating and sleeping...
also, if you don't charge machine, it will turn off, not erase all info from hard drives (which could be considered "death" to machine)
@@christophebedouret9813 yeah, we ALSO do that, without leaving our humanity behind.
@@MaxieWolfeCringe spiritualist moment. Enjoy your blatantly inferior flesh
Bit of a bummer they didn't add cybernetic/synth variants to all ... checks notes ... 196 existing playable species. Yeah, I can see why they didn't. This is a nice compromise and we get some new species on top. And now that the system for portrait progression is in place, I bet modders will get the old 196 up to par.
That last portrait in the synthetic category kinda looks like a dragon. I've been wanting some draconic or dinosaur-like portrait options for awhile now. Come to think of it, a mythical species pack could be a nice addition.
That spider-looking one with the crossed arms goes kinda hard tbh. I love it the sassy look with its' crossed arms.
I really need to make mechanical cult that will try to kill new crisis because it is ai and isn’t holy
Random Martian Red hooded toaster praying cult be like:
This is probably the best value DLC's we've had in a long time, if you ask me.
(Edit: Wow, the cybernetic shipset looks incredible!)
Just seeing the very Egyptian themed bird synthetic is starting to give me empire ideas all on it's own.
I think the portraits on the 5:47 are different looks for officials, scientists and commanders, so we will not only get new species portraits, but also profession ones
It would be cool if they introduced a new collusus too. My idea for machines is something that will turn the planet into nanites, or maybe turn the pops into research if you go down the crisis route.
Honestly from how much content is within this new … pack, I’d say it’s definitely worth the price. Atleast personally speaking
Huh, never knew Montu had four arms.
Check out the primitive version, it's buff and four-armed 😉
That's awesome, now I look even more forward to this!
just bought the expansion now to catch up on two months of montu, lathland, the red king, and every other uploaders videos XD
O great space lizard overlord Montu, thank you for always making your videos respectful of our time as viewers. They are detailed yet succinct, not going down the route of repeating the same thing 14 times to pad the video length as the RUclips meta seems to be. Please keep making great content.

I wish I had a pc to assimilate all those organics on your multiplayer streams, you’re such a great RUclipsr, keep doing your thing montu
hope you get your own MontuPlays, Reptilian cybernetic / robot portrait too
I ended the stellaris guide today, thanks for everything, Now I can play the game, its really hard the curve of learning, and new things are still arriving for stellaris, thats really cool, thats an awsome game, I guess we still dont need stellaris 2, but new good contents for future, stellaris can bring many new things yet.
9:16 Oh yeah! That does look like the Endless Space 2 Imperial style!
This new DLC has got me super hyped to jump back in to the game after being away for about a year. The last few DLC were just kind of underwhelming and I never bought them, it actually kinda drove me away from the game. But this one seems like it’s shaping up to possibly be the best DLC yet.
The cybernetic battleship 9:00 remind me of Faullt 4 and the Gaussrifle
Fallout 4s Gauss rifle is good but not as good as Fallout 3s Version
Can't wait for the modders to get their hands on the new capabilities of portrait packs.
This is cool, looking forward to the dlc to release
Great Video !
I'm wondering if all of the existing species will be retroactively updated to also have cybernetic and synthetic forms like the new ones
honestly im really excited for this!
I love these 2 new ship sets. And new race portrait are all ways great to see, 😁
The Machine Age is shaping up to one of the, if not the best best DLC Stellaris has ever had.
So when you ascend can you change your shipset? Or will you have to pick one of the new ones from the start?
I was hoping that they did the different machine version for the previous portraits instead of new ones, but these look great.
I'm hoping we'll get a psionic variation of changing portraits in the future.
So let me see if I understand this correctly. Now there will be a cybernetic and synthetic category that you can choose, they start out looking like one new of each classic species type like avian or reptile, and change looks as they progress in their ascension?
I really don't get how the machine ones, aka the new ones that aren't cybernetic or synthetic, play into this, are they just basic new portraits for robot species and manufactored labour pops?
I really like the cooling fins. I'm a big fan of Steve Jackson Games GURPS setting Transhuman Space, sort of a harder science than most SF games hopepunk setting. The ships in that use fins for cooling since vacuum is a great insulator and power plants generate a lot of heat.
Haven’t been this excited about a Stellaris DLC in a while now.
omg i am soooo psyched!
Wow, they sure are justifying that increased price very fairly! I really hope this expansion + patch (and whole year, really) go smoothly. Last year was so catastrophically rough for the game that it was the first time in stellaris' history that I did not end up picking up all the content.
They still need to make these "slow the pace down" changes work on modded, gigantic, lagtastic galaxies that you need a top end cpu for that I like to play on though, because I liked the old faster pace on them. Otherwise everything takes forever even before stuff lags hard, and its a huge pain to have to mod around them every major patch. And yes, despite the lag towards the end (max sim speed was.. just normal sim speed) I was getting through to around year 300 and completing all 3 crisis events in my playthroughs.
Damn thats a lot of new portraits
Big ship looks like a tech rifle in Cyberpunk hehe
No one:
Cybernetic Shipset: V14 Titan go brrrrr!!
It would be nice to see the old portraits getting an overhaul to bring them in line with the modern counterparts
The cybernetic shipset looks AWESOME! Might be my new favorite!
Neat additions. 😯
I'd love to see an equivalent of this for psionics with glowing eyes and auras of energy
Hmm I was thinking they would make for the existing portraits new cybernetic portraits
3:33 looks a bit like the chozo, cool
Will existing portraits also have their cybernetic versions?
Will synths be going back to the way they used to work? I just played synthetic ascension and was surprised that my pops became robots.
Wonder if you could change ships once you synthetically ascend to machine
The cybernetic shipset is gonna look sweet with a toxoid empire.
Maybe they saw the response to astral planes and decided to really deliver this time. Although this has probably been in development for awhile.
and what about the old portraits? will they have cybernetics too?
Nice. Unexpected but very cool. Even migth make DLC buyable.
We got a muscle car shipset!
Damn! This DLC is looking very nice! 😎👍
The cybernetic shipset definitely give me the vibes of Firestorm Armada
Finally a high resolution human portrait that aren’t all looksmaxxing clones of eachother with slightly different skin shades
A big problem with recent Stellaris DLC is that it feels like it has not been worth the value, by having portrait packs within the expansions increases their value dramatically imo.
So if you complete machine or synthetic ascension with one of the other portraits not added in this DLC, you won't see any change? I like the added variety, but it's a bit disappointing that this new feature doesn't extend to every portrait.
I massively misread the diaries up to this point, because I thought every existing portrait was going to get a cybernetic and synthetic portrait.
the ship designs are excellent
Now I wish that Genetics and Psionic Paths would also influence Portraits. Would be so amazing.
Now I wish we could get synthetic and cybernetic portraits for all current and future species
This is good. When things are good, I say they are good.
Good to know they’re stepping up the cosmetic content, I was wondering how they were going to justify £21 for a standard expansion given the last few we’ve had
Damn those portraits and shipsets are hot
Can I keep my regular head when I get a machine head so I have two heads?
Brought the season 8 season pass. Money well spent.
Cybernetic Portrait 11 looks kinda like a Destiny-franchise reference by being an homage to the Eliksni, which are arthropod-esque.
The base game avian portraits have so many non-bird looking xenos clogging it up so any new birds are welcome
Those ship designs are immersive and drop-dead sexy
Damb they were COOKING for this dlc
Super hyped for this expansion! Paradox best devs confirmed
Wait so hold the fort... Does this mean that only a hand select few species/portraits will be able to take part in the new mechanics? Because it seems to me at least if say you play as the Dubiously friendly Geckos, and then wish to go Cyber/Synthetic, would they too be able to have a transition? Because if all the Vanilla and additional Species expansion portraits don't get them. This is certainly a half baked DLC, though it is stepping in the right direction
Every species will still get all the mechanical benefits of cybernetic and synthetic ascension, just without the visuals. So if the gecco race took cybernetics they’d still look the same, or if they went synthetics they’d look like the generic synthetic design for reptilians.
I’d like for them to at least add cybernetic versions of all the species because that’d be really cool, but they never advertised it that way and also it’d be a huge amount of work to do that in addition to the new species and new mechanics.
6th portrait in cybernetic....the time of the great orangutan galactic order is now. jimmies will be rustles across the space and time
Did they give a new lithoid portrait?
I am even more PSYCHED for this DLC now, I love the new portraits, and always wanted cybernetic versions
I'm a little sad the devs created a whole new set of species that have the cybernetics feature instead of focusing that effort on adding new cybernetic portraits to existing species, but the new species are cool so I can't really complain lol.
Its nice that we are finally getting an expansion to sapient life forms finally. ;)
So nice i can't wait till 2030 To get all of that stuff on PS 5
The cybernetic ships reminds me a cybran from supreme commander
Which one?
Good, and thorough content is worth the price. Broken trash for the sake of investors is not. Im happy to pay for a good DLC like this. It reminds me of the DLCs from gaming way back when.
The real cost of this DLC is the cost of opportunity of the time I will spend playing it.
This really seems to be one of the higher value DLC'S
