Mario Botta is a Swiss architect born in Mendrisio, Ticino on April 1st, 1943. At age fifteen, Botta dropped out of secondary school and apprenticed with the architectural firm of Carloni and Camenisch in Lugano.

I think during the Post-Modernist Classicist period, Botta's work was always a cut above - so much better built and non-historicist compared with all the rest ..... that lot were just hanging fashionable wallpaper, Botta was building something far stronger physically and philosophically - and (therefore) longer lasting.
