Jean Drapeau was a stubborn autocrat that hoped he could replicate the success of Expo67. It was HIS way or NO WAY. Not ONE Quebec architect was consulted in the design of the stadium and Velodrome. A European architect wouldn't know ANYTHING about Canadian climate.

Le Skydome est d'une laideur et son architecture est singulière. Le stade olympique de Montréal est une oeuvre d'art !

Yeah, but the Rogers Centre actually works. Toronto has a stadium that was built for baseball with a roof that functions. Montreal never had a stadium built for their baseball team. Olympic Stadium may be a work of art, but it did nothing to keep the Expos in Montreal. Montreal needs a baseball stadium. In Toronto, we already have one.

It must've been a big disappointment for Taillibert, that the Olympic Games became a financial disaster, with the costs rising almost ten fold.

He didn't care. He was paid in FULL and died a VERY rich man.

It is ironic but the stadium outlived the naysayers. RIP

Maybe that particular union it was local 144 I did work on the stadium in Montreal for a short time as a concrete truck operator the individual that had the contract for the stadium the chief head union boss was a known criminal and a con having a violent history and also had relations with the mafia and the hells angels motorcycle gang was the one mostly to blame about blowing way past the initial budget of I believe of 150 million but they rushed the whole project leaving doors open for crooked processes at the time he was trying to bankrupt the city of Montreal with the stadium contract... but either way 1200 a week gross was damn good money in 76 probably cleared over 900 for that 70 hours but only claimed he worked 2 hours that's criminal though.... or corrupt to say the least any government project has always been poorly managed because its the residents of the cities that pay for it....often for many many years after too...but they don't tell you that part lol union's are the best for the average working blue collar middle class like anything else there is good and bad if it would have been mostly non union it would have been way worse in terms of cost and outcome
