So here is the big Chun Li guide! Got everything you need from easy to advanced and full of timestamps cause it's mad long(and like for timestamps!). Chun is CHUN LI ONE OF GAMINGS MOST SIGNATURE CHARACTERS and that's reason enough to play her but she's also pretty fun so that's good too

The only Chun changes that were significant enough to change the stuff covered in guides are 5hp being safe and more spamable in neutral and 5hk having higher scaling when used to start a combo making 2HP a better meterless dp punish starter.

I climbed into gold by spamming DR 2MK > heavy legs, and I broke into plat by swapping to DR 2MK > 214P~LK > 28MK. After the medium SBK, you get an autotimed DR 3HP overhead that's both meaty and drive rush enhanced (+8oH/+5oB). Doing 4HP after is both a combo on hit and a frametrap on block. No one in gold blocked the overhead, so that sequence was pretty much a free 40% for 2 drive bricks.

This is a nicely presented guide. I love how these kind of guides are out here now for both new and old players. Chun Li is the first character I ever played in a fighting game. I graduated HS in 1991, and our class went to a water park for our party. I was fat then, and self-conscious about it, so instead of water slides I went to the arcade. All the games were free, and I was the only one there. I played SF2 the entire night, using only Chun Li, and it took me almost until dawn to actually beat the damn game.
Anyway, I'm glad guides like this are out there now: learning on your own is great, but having a foundation of knowledge to start from is better.
I look forward to the next one.

      @@rooflemonger That would be amazing.
And I understand that fruits of the effort can be somewhat hard to predict. I asked myself why does a base game character guide come out now. I still watched it but that was the first thought.
Maybe I can sell you the idea. I play Ed since he came out but at first he was seen as lower tier than now, much lower. Now they figured out the character and put that on display, especially at Evo, where three or four Ed mains joined the finals and we could see that the character can be played in very diverse manners. Like the mirror match of Momochi and Endingwalker.
I think we have a new understanding how to play the character to his strengths "and" a lot more people have him on their radar.
So I think it's worth it, maybe even starting the video with an Evo drewam combo and the crowd counting the hits. How does that sound?

Ex and Light lightning kicks are good whiff punish tools:
Light lightning kicks: Has the same range as sweep but 1f faster (8 frames), combos in C.mk, doesn't scale like C.mk as a starter and needs no meter
Ex lightning kick: Has the same range as 13f S.hp but 5 frames faster (8f), combos into c.mk on punish counter, does less damage than S.hp, cost meter, but scales way better and more meter efficient than c.mk with more range losing only 1f
It's also very safe and combos on counter hit when close, so it's a decent way to take your turn against some spacing traps, and check the further drive rushes.
If your lazy, you can just buffer qcf as much as you want, since ex moves have higher priority than supers. If you wish to level 2 super, press 1 kick button. If you want to ex lightning kick, press 2 kick buttons. If you need to anti-air or do an invincible reversal, end with a down button to do ex tensho kicks. It be like having a one buttons dp. You can do a normal one Tensho kick if the previous qcf was completed, it would take practice to master

The down > down input for Tensho kicks sucks for all devices. It might be just a little faster on Leverless. The biggest problem is that she has to stand up once, in other words she cannot do it from a crouching position. It makes AA some characters with air attacks like Luke j.HP or Manon j.HK, which hitbox is very low, hard to AA. You need to react much quicker than with a classic DP motion (which can be done from a crouching position). Dealing with cross-up as well is hard, they can either make the Tensho Kicks whiff, or again, as she has to stand up to complete the motion, she would get hit by a potential cross-up attack. Against cross-up Chun players usually prefer to st.MK, air-throw or go under and punish with a st.LP counter if possible.
In general the AA game with Chun-li is pretty hard and inconsistent to be honest. Having a classic Dragon Punch and a down HP is so much reliable than all the AA she has. So yeah, kind of disagree with the video presenting Chun-li as a character who has an easy time with Anti-air.

I think I can explain why I don't care for charge characters, it has some layers like an onion.
The most important advantage for motion inputs is the immersion, you're doing the move with your hand and there's a connection between you and the character. The second point is related to that, it doesn't "feel" like waiting it out till a bar is filled, what literally happens under the hood there. And the third one is something people get used to but still a drawback of charge moves, there's no audio or visual indicator when the move is ready and you're not only doing a normal kick or punch and there is with motion inputs, you know you have done the motion, no need for counting and you also see the character going down and forward or back, with charge inputs, you have to feel it out, basically count.
That would be my explaination for my preference, I'm sure charge players have their own reasons, how far fetched and ridiculous they may be... ^^

    • @marcbraun5342
      @marcbraun5342 4 дня назад

To boost my first argument, just look at Chun-Li's Kikoken animation, she's moving down forward as well, I think it would feel better with the animation that's already in the game.

Where's the section on Modern chun though? feels like a pretty big omission for an ultimate beginner guide, Chun being one of the most relevant modern characters and all.
She change quite a lot, 2MP being tied to an auto combo button makes her mp 2mp routes exceedingly annoying to use in modern which encourage you to find different combo routes, losing access to MK and HK makes your anti air game completely different with air to air and air throw becoming relevant (as your easy input upkicks is heavy which is hella committal) also not getting either of her normal overheads leaving only hazanshu, which is shortcut only so you only have OD and M hazanshu. Her auto combos are pretty middling so you cant lean on them either. Its time we stopped treating Modern as Character minus whatever and treat them as full variations of the base character.
Great work otherwise, these resources are invaluable to new players
