Making myself a new EDC knife from a saw blade

- In this video I will be crafting myself a new EDC (every day carry) knife from a used industrial cold cut saw blade. My research on the saw blade manufacturer website tells me the steel is 1045 or something similar.
The blade is 1/8" thick with a sabre grind and about 0.020" (0.5mm) edge thickness. The blade is hand sanded to 1500 grit and acid etched.
The handle is made from zebrawood and Peruvian walnut and has brass and black paper micarta spacers. Handle pins are 1/8" brass pins with two 1/4" mosaic pins and a 1/4" brass lanyard tube. The spine of the handle has filework done in an hourglass pattern.
The making of the sheath has not been done yet and will be my next video upload. Thanks for watching!

Please leave any suggestions or comments about how I can improve my videos! I'm still new at this so things will change rapidly in the first little bit! Thank you for your support! I love making knives and I believe my creations will only get better from here. 💓

Absolutely amazing work! That handle is spectacular!! I forged my seax yesterday. The handles are being stabilized today and I hope to have the knife finished by tomorrow. Then I will start on the sheath.
Do you post stuff on instagram?
Well done Dave.
Thank you!
So beautiful 🤩
Thank you!
Outstanding, although I prefer a polished blade, I think you applied magnificent craftsmanship. BEAUTIFUL KNIFE.
Thank you sir!
that knife was one of the best looking knives I’ve seen. Well done Dave. I’m always looking for some hand made great looking knives. I collect for my grandsons. Do you sell your knifes?
Wow, thank you John. I really appreciate that. The knife in this video is still in my possession and could be available to someone who wants it. Do you have Instagram? Perhaps we could discuss in a private message.
I love your knife, it is wonderful, I would like to make one like that, greetings from Chile,
Thank you. I appreciate it!
@@DaveMakesKnives excuse me, is there any possibility that you share the model template with me
Add me on instagram... I don't have a model template exactly. I have the drawing that I made to trace the knife design on the steel. The best I could do is make a copy for you and mail it to you, if you cover the shipping cost.
nice knife!!!! ill try a similar grip sometime =)
Thank you sir! 👊😁
Nice knife ! And good work not making me listen to cutting and grinding at full volume 👍
Haha thanks. I hope that's not a jab at my previous videos. They have machine sounds but I spent a great deal of time balancing the audio levels so nothing was harsh on the ears. That being said, I totally did not balance audio levels in my first upload. Thanks for watching! 🙌
Amazing video! Keep the good work up, sir! Just earned a subscriber. Remember us when you're famous! ;)
I am honestly amazed, flattered and humbled by all the supportive comments I have received in the last few weeks. I thought I was motivated before but now all I can think of is getting my current project finished and edited and making sure my next upload is the best that I am capable. Thank you for the support and your feedback. It is greatly appreciated and you definitely added some more fuel to the fire!
@@DaveMakesKnives Great to hear that we can pass this quarantine with more of your videos! Can't wait to see an upload notification! (You're) Definitely one of the best channels I've watched. I thought you had more than a million subscribers (which you'll reach!) when I watched the video!
really enjoyed watching the video Dave ive also got your instagram look forward to seeing more.
Thanks Dave. I appreciate it!
Which ine will be more economical using a new saw blade or getting an actual blade steel
I would recommend actual blade steel over a saw blade any day. As for which is economical. The saw blade... if you can get one as scrap. Buying a saw blade to use to make a knife, I don't know what the cost difference is compared to a length of blade steel But even if it is a few dollars more, I'd go with the blade steel.
I love that knife! If you ever decide to let it go , please please reach out to me!
Hello Matthew. Thank you! I do still have this knife and would absolutely consider selling it
How dont you have more subs?
Haha. Thank you. I've been working on it. My channel is only about 6 months old and I have only had time for 4 uploads. I am working on another one right now and hopefully will start a more regular upload schedule. Thank you very much for the comment brother! 👊
Almost seems like Canadians (just guessing) are stuck inside all Winter and need lots of projects lol. Seems like every knife channel is Canadian.
You're probably on to something there.
