This was super fun to watch! Love this video! Can't wait for the next one! Dapper Dan is incredible! Such creativity! I'm always amazed at your functional art pieces! 🎨
Thank you! I'm about to start working on the companion piece for this guy. I hope you tune in the next week or so to see that transformation! Thanks for watching!
I cant even believe thats the same chair! You completely transformed it and i know that wasnt an easy project. You are a true artist. Thank you so much for joining in on the challenge
Love this Leora, you did an amazing job, the tenacity you showed to battle through win’s accolades. Bravo and well deserved, keep up the fabulous recreations 👏🏻🙌🏻🥰
I cannot believe that decoupage paper can be a chair back! I loved how you painted it in and blended it into the chair. I have never seen gilding done before, I was impressed - especially since I am a glitter hater. This was inspirational. Thanks
Oh yay! I'm glad I was able to show you something new! Redesign with Prima gilding waxes are by far my favorite (no I'm not sponsored! Lol) easy to apply with a brush or your finger and it's easy to wash off your hands. Great stuff for adding the finishing touches!
Wow! Just started watching Desert DIY videos and came across this challenge. You are a true artist! Really love your aesthetic! A steampunk cat!!! Fabulous!
Thanks! I learned the technique at the Daydream Apothecary Masterclass earlier this year! I was so excited to try it when I came home I immediately started looking for just the right piece! 💙
What an amazing transformation!!! WoW-wEE! 'Supercalifragilistic' demo on what to do and also what not to do. Goodness knows, all of us make mistakes along the way and have to backslide and fix our errors. Plenty of times out of frustration I've given up, but you didn't, demonstrating that determination produced an absolutely top-notch piece of furniture art! My hat goes off to you for your entry in this 'Ugly Duckling Challenge!' Oh, one more thing, this video deserved to be viewed larger. I assume you don't have a means to film this full screen, but in time hopefully, you will.
You did an amazing job. I have subscribed, in the hopes of seeing more detailed painting in your work. Doing projects with paint, yarn, and silk flowers are a few of my favorite mediums. My main reason for watching this challenge, was for the painting part. I like to do murals, faux finishes, and trompe l'oiel and have been doing so in homes and businesses since the 80's, til 2017, when I married and relocated. Now my home is my forever canvas. I look forward to your next project.
Thank you joining to see the challenge and for subscribing! In my next video I am getting into more details on the paint and decoupage process. It should be out this weekend! 😊
Bless you- you didn’t stop! I love your personality and you are very talented and artistic! You teach well from knowledge and skills. Thank you for sharing this and participating in the challenge! Yes definitely, it’s a Diamond from the Rough. It isn’t my style but it’s an outstanding piece. Great colors! Idea: A series on animals that are going extinct without more help from humans (?) - just a thought. You have a great eye for details!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I love a theme; that's a great idea! I am not sure if there are already papers with those images, but the maker of Whimsykel papers is always taking suggestions for imagery we want to see. I can suggest endangered animals!
Oh my goodness! You are absolutely adorable & hilarious! “Change number two hundred eighty seven…”I haven’t finished, yet, but I had to come comment. I love how real you are in this. I know that this will turn out beautifully. PS I just finished the video. The chair is GORGEOUS❣️ WOW!
Congrats! I love your very informative video! It sure helps me feel better cause sometimes I think I’m the only one who has to back pedal! Very creative!
Thank you! I absolutely have to correct mistakes on every project before it's done, some big, some small. But problem solving is one of the best parts!
You gave this chair a beautiful whimsical look that not many could have accomplished considering the old heavyweight chair you started with. Nice job! Enjoy your life, _Cheryl (a new subscriber).
Thank you, and thanks for subscribing! I love letting loose and doing something out of the box sometimes! Actually most of my flips are outside of the box... Maybe I don't know where the box is! 😆
A good idea to do an upholstery is to use the old fabric to produce a pattern to new one, like that, it makes easy to re-do de odd shapes like the ones on the side of the sitting cushion.
You are absolutely correct! That is how I have my other chairs in the past, but for some reason forgot to do that this time. 🤦♀️ It was how I cut the second attempt at the seat cushion and I was kicking myself for not doing that in the first place!
@diamondzfromtheroughDIY i love furniture updates, but there's no market for this here in UK, we did try to update to sell them, but here people are used to get furniture for free, and are not willing to pay a worth price that Could pay for our work so i re-do furniture for my house, almost all my furniture is from free furniture that i revamp and use.
Actually I saw potential in a different chair I bought at a garage sale (the subject of Part 2 of this video) and then spotted this one with a matching frame while thrifting. If I had seen this one first... I don't think I would have!
The Elton John cat & flowers are not my taste but I love how you brought out the design in the carved wood. Loved the deconstruction/ construction tips too.
No doubt…had to subscribe. Loved the transformation and your personality. Also looked at your other work, and I’m heading over to Pinterest and fb to subscribe and save some videos to my refurbish furniture board for inspiration and guidance. Thank you for sharing!
hi there!!! new sub here!! love the paint couture brand paint! omg when i see my husband and kids using my fabric scissors!!! I GO CRAZYYYYY!!! i love the decoupage paper! this turned out really really great!!! i love it!! great submission for your first time!!
This blew me away. And I love cats. May I make a suggestion to use a different aspect ratio on your video. It will make viewing on the tv so much more enjoyable. But what an incredible transformation.
It’s funny you mention that, because when I saw that this video didn’t flip, I realized I needed to turn my camera landscape while I am filming the companion chair makeover! Hopefully my next one will be easier to see! 😊
@@diamondzfromtheroughDIY awesome! I made that mistake on my first youtube video, too. But you have such a great talent, it needs to be shown on the big screen!😊
I can't recommend Wendy Conklin's Chair Whimsy course enough! She walked me through every step (which I could rewatch any time because I now own the rights to the videos) and was very easy to follow. I have ZERO sewing experience and still haven't tackled sewing double welt cord, but I'll get there! Her course was about $350 but you also get into her private Facebook group so you can ask her questions in real time. As a true novice it was better for me than trying to find a bunch of free tutorials in order to know exactly what I needed to get the results I was after. Good luck!
My experience is that old foam will deteriorate - it will powder and my asthma will notice before I can see it or feel it. Just replace the old foam, please.
That is a fair point for consideration. I have deconstructed chairs that had mostly good but some crumbly bits, or parts that feel hard, and those are definitely replaced. This felt like it had many more years in it.
This was super fun to watch! Love this video! Can't wait for the next one! Dapper Dan is incredible! Such creativity! I'm always amazed at your functional art pieces! 🎨

Congratulations on you first challenge. You did an amazing job

Wow - I wish I could find a chair like this one! It's seriously cool. Even better you went steampunk kitty.
I found two! One at a garage sale, and this one at Habitat. You do have to sort through some hideous stuff to find it though! Lol
I just love your teaching and personality. the aspect ration is difficult to see on a PC so look forward to seeing MORE!
