Hi Brett! Good to hear from you. Yes this weekend will be fun. The CQ WW SSB contest. Probably the biggest of the year for logs submitted if I remember right. Conditions should be pretty good if the SFI stays above 100. I'm looking forward to getting some new ones in the log on SSB, especially on the higher bands. Max NG7M
Sweet rig. Congrats I worked him an hour after he went qrv. I tripped over him. Saw a pileup and even tho I’ve only been licensed 2yrs I figured out look down from the pileup.
Hi Ted, that's great. Nice work. Yes, DX working split is the way for them to manage all the callers and it's fun to figure out where they are listening or if they have a pattern as they change RX frequency. Thanks for watching. Max NG7M
Hi Larry, I'm driving an amplifier. So a bit more than 10 watts... more like 1400 watts with my RF-KIT RF-2K+. That would be nice to work them on 10 watts though. ;) Thanks for watching. Max NG7M
I use an external WinKeyer myself, but the internal keyer works great too. You adjust the speed of the internal keyer using the upper left knob. So yes, I can confirm CW speed is set with the left hand controls. Thanks for watching. Max NG7M
I don't use the built in CW keyer, I prefer an outboard WinKeyer. But yes, the internal keyer speed is adjusted with the top left knob. Thanks for watching and commenting. Max NG7M
Hi, Max! During your transmission you can hear the click of the key, but when you switch to receive, you can hear the click of the relay, is this the amplifier? R1FW 🤝
Hi, well there are two relays you might hear. I have a NCC-2 antenna phasing device that has a PTT relay to keep the front ends of the receive antennas from getting RF overload or damage and it could be the relay in my amplifier. I maybe been using either the RF-KIT RF2K+ or my SPE 2K-FA, I can't remember. I also run the NC7J skimmer server which is a split antenna feed off my NCC-2 box from DX Engineering and that PTT relay in the NCC-2 is there to effectivity turn off the incoming RF to the Red Pitaya SDR I use for NC7J. Running 1.5KW on a 160x100ft lot puts my receive antennas in close proximity to my TX antennas. The loudest relay which is closer to the microphone while making the video is the NCC-2 box. I do wish that relay was not as loud as it is. Max NG7M
@@ng7m-ham-shack Thanks for the detailed answer 🤝 I already thought that Elekraft switched to a relay🤣 hee hee. How do you like K4? does he earn his money?
@@andrey_r1fw Yes, the K4 has been good... there are still a few things they need to work on. I/Q audio and bin data on the network. But for the most part it's great. The sound of CW on the receiver is outstanding and the narrow filtering with no ringing must be heard to believe. It really sounds nice! Thanks for watching, Max NG7M
Max, enjoyed your video. Have the video splitter you recommended working nicely. Brand new to K series with K4D. What were you doing when sub RC froze with display of RF and SWR? Thanks. Jerry / K0ES
Hi Jerry, I watched the video again... I didn't see any issues with the display. I think what you were seeing is when I transmitted. The display changes for the split vfo in the upper right... you see the swr, drive power to my amp and the alc meter. I'm guessing that is what you were seeing. Any time you would see that is when I was calling HD8R. If it's something else, I'm interested in what you were seeing... what time into the video? The pause and change of the vfo b display is by design. Not an issue unless you were seeing something I haven't noticed. Thanks again for the comment and for watching the video. Max NG7M
(I see you cut and pasted a previous question from one of my other videos that has nothing to do with WSJT, so I'll cut and paste the same answer here) There is this amazing website called www.google.com that you can use to search for this. Go there and type in: "wsjt elecraft k4 setup". Look around and do some research and read the K4 documentation too. After you review all the documentation out there on setting up WSJT etc... you might want to search the Elecraft K4 groups.io group, where there are many posts regarding the setup for WSJT. Join this group and after you have done your own due diligence, if you still have questions, ask for help in the group. You can also email Elecraft support if you have questions. You will get a much better response in the event you need to ask a question if you can demonstrate that you have done all the research before asking the question. Your question has already been answered many, many times at this point. A random question about WSJT on a RUclips video unrelated to WSJT probably isn't the best place to start.
tnx Max, this was a relyy good cideo of a good cw operation tnx a lot for this 73 dj4gx
This was entertaining!
Great video Matt. Hope you get time to enjoy the new radio this weekend! :)

It looks like your RF out is about 10 watts. Is this right? Love CW.

Considering a K4. Can you confirm the CW Speed is set with the left-side controls?

Great video. More K4 CW when time permits?
Hi Devin, I do prefer CW! :) Maybe I'll record a bit of running stations in the ARRL Sweepstakes this weekend. Max NG7M

You are correct. What I saw was when you were transmitting. I’m just getting used to this radio but so far it’s been terrific. 73, Jerry
