- WHO REMEMBERS THIS FORGOTTEN LITTLE GEM FROM 1972
Come in
Sit down
Pull up a chair
Speak the truth when you tell me your cares;
Don't be afraid to talk to your brother
Get a hold of yourself an' dry up your tears
We'll start at the start
And end at the end
You'll find that your mind might possibly mend
I'm sure I can help you 'cos you can't help yourself
Have you fallen in love again
Have you fallen in love again ?
Sister Jane
You've gone and changed your name
You gotta get out soon
Before you go insane
Before the town starts talkin'
And they see you out walkin'
It sure does seem a shame
Yes
It sure does seem a shame
Sister Jane
You've gone and changed your name
And I suggest you catch
The twelve forty five 'plane
Before the fam'ly finds out
Just what you've done
And holds you at the point of a gun
And that ain't gona be much fun
Sister Jane
We'll talk of the future
We'll talk of the past
The odds were against you it never could last
You can't think opinions will change overnight
When you know what you've done just ain't right
You don't mean to tell me you've finally done it
You played at the game and you thought you had won it
And now that you find that you're way out of line
Well
Some people call it a crime
Yeah you really have done it this time
Sister Jane
You've gone and changed your name
You gotta get out soon...
Sister Jane
You told me the truth
You opened your mind
Said I would listen
And help you unwind
My dear Sister Jane you've caused nothing but pain
And I really must tell you this time
I knew all along you had to go wrong
In this kind of town you could never belong
I'm sorry for you
And I'm sorry for me
This is the way it should end
'cos you've fallen in love again
I loved this song!
New World made a young girl very happy when they answered my little letter and sent me a photo with their autographs in the 70s!!
Woke up this morning with this song in my head... Love it
spooky, I've just been whistling it in the shower, i swear ive not heard it or thought about it for over forty years
I'm a 1960s Child and I forgot about this great brilliant fantastic entertainment singing Group.
This is what real true talent singing is about that I can acknowledge understand very well.
And a great journey back through memory lane to this year when I was just a very young small Beautiful Boy.
New World are real true music.
The early start of 1970s and from 1970 right through to the end at 1979.
Those was the many years of fabulous brilliant great fantastic real true talent singing songs from many brilliant fantastic entertainment Groups and bands. And singers singing solo.
We had great brilliant fantastic Woman and Men who had one particular real true reason for there songs they released.
I was age 8 in 1970.
The 1970s had it all the fashion and music that made it all special.
The great many fantastic singers and there was plenty.
There was all and everything that made the 1970s what it was to many thousands of people all over this whole world.
You just had to be there to feel what we all did experience back then.
People who wasn't there they say could we explain it and we would then say we can't.
Thousands of songs from the 1970s was sung with love that came from the Heart,Spirit, Soul,
Songs about sad broken love and many other great brilliant fantastic entertainment songs.
Song writers write there songs with purpose meaning that doesn't involve Head Banging, Way over the Sound Barrier with Blasting Boom Base thumping Music.
Screaming very loud noise to burst there ear drums.
Damage there Brain Cells.
And RAP with a C it becomes CRAP.
There's nothing of real true Human Humanity Heart, Spirit, Soul in any of it.
It's Trash,Rubbish, Garbage all for money.
It's no love or respect for real music.
Head Banging and Boom Base Blasting over the sound Barrier.
Noise disturbance is what all of that is.
Real true talent singing is taken it easy with calm peace and understanding for our Heart, Spirit, Soul.
Relaxed.
It's now 2024 and New World still sound great.
And they always will go on in and through time guaranteed.
Who’s viewing this in Oct 2021? My appreciation for this upload is enormous, thank you soooo much!! I was born in the 60’s and have fond memories of listening to these songs on my siblings 45’s. With all the 24/7 covid crap going on in the world today I wouldn’t mind getting into a time capsule and head back there. I love the music and cars of that era, just phenomenal.
Hallo, its me. I liked this song in the early 70th but lost it out of mind. Today i heard it on internet radio and was hit in my heart.
What a beautiful song.
Greetings from Germany

Heard it on the radio again yesterday. Still love it🙂
It's good song 😊
Me too, I was born in 1957, Tom Tom Turnaround was first record I ever bought, on Island record label. Also got Sister Jane, Karma Karma and Living next door to Alice.....way better than Smokie version. To be fair though Smokey (new name, same group) had some fab hits themselves, along with Suzie Quatro, The Sweet, Arrows and Mud if I'm still with it? Well done to Chinn and Chapman.
Great song; love hearing it again after so many years!
LOVELY SONG
Sister Jane good song
Just watched a repeat of 1970s Two Ronnies and New World were the musical guests. I remember seeing Sister Jane on TOTP the same year.
Not many people know , they had the song , liveing next door to Alice,! But the group called, smokie, had a hit with it,,!
Teenage memories
I do have to say life was intense good times and bad times, really intense in 1972. One day heartbreak, the next day raising hell in the malls. A really beautiful girl showed me the ropes older than me, then her parents came home. She was a saint too.
They had one over on us - so uncool that they were really cool - such beautiful ironic/direct lyrics - like Gilbert O'Sullivan singing upbeat and happy about suicide in 'Alone Again, Naturally'. A similar genius. The 70s obviously understood PLAY - not to put one over us - but to bring us into the 'joke' to see what they are really on about!
Still remember this
a few months later Slade were singing "Goodbye to Jane"
Some how I missed this one.
OMG love it
50 Jahre nicht gehört. Danke.
Loved that Leeds team
This song was a top ten hit and deserves many more views. They are kind of a prototype Smokie, but I do prefer them. They did the original of Living Next Door to Alice and their Rooftop singing is also worth a listen. Underrated New Zealanders.
I never knew they were kiwis. They are fab
They are Australian, from Brisbane; here's a link to their bio en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_World_(band)
Sorry Kevin, they're aussies.
🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
From Brisbane QLD & formed the band in Brisbane QLD.
together with The Sweet, Nicky Chinn & Mike Chapman made there first Hits.
New World got the Original hits .. Living Next Door to Alice, covered by Smokie and Tom Tom Turnaround covered by The Sweet
"There"?
When music was pure and simple, you can understand every word they are singing.
Exactly, well put. Beats the garbage that is churned out today for sure.. Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
First time I’ve heard this song.
Still got the 45
Don't forget to dance
I was in Australia with my mum and her Australian family 🎉. That’s where we bought there album. Brilliant!! Can someone please 🙏 help me with the name of the cowboy one? There was Hop along Cassidy, Billy the kid, Jesse James!! 2000 Indians or more?? That’s all I can remember 😢. Brilliant though xx
Australia
Me
That’s what you call a helmet of hair
God I remember this group in my teens ,wish I was back ,happy carefree days ,no Isis no bombings on trains no terrorists running folk down , aids hadn't arrived ,
Of course there were terrorists. I guess you haven't heard of Munich.
The song still stands up well after 50 years. Its melody is unforgettable but, listening again, I realise its words shouldn't be ignored.
Great stuff for sure. I was 18 when this came out , 1st job, first real boyfriend my own income, carefree days & simple sing along songs such as this . Yes you are right catchy little songs ..Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
Da war ich 16.

Two choices to this song...who thinks this song is about siblings , a brother looking out for his kid sister as the sister has brought Shame to the family..
Or ..who thinks that Sister Jane is a nun...and the brother is a monk..
And she swore a life of celibacy...only she wasn't quite as celibate as she made out as she has been frivolous with her heart before.. ..so the brother could be telling her that she has to leave the convent before they all find out what she's been up to?
I was only ten when this came out ..I love this song so much ...
So I often sing and play it on my guitar everytime I'm in the mood.. ❤️
New World done the ORIGINAL version of ''Living Next Door to Alice''
Try "DID".
Das war meine Zeit! Immer noch Gänsehaut!
I STILL LOVE THIS, MUCH UNDERRATED TRACK. I WAS 6 YEARS OLD, WHEN I BOUGHT THE 7" VINYL 🤩
For those of us who remember .....The days of 45's were just so great. Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
I was in hospital, and sister Jane, and her team, saved my life
Opportunity knocks they where on and won it 1971
Wasn't there some scandal about the vote. doesn't matter great song even with the dated sentiment.
This was the first record I ever bought. My collection has grown somewhat since then!
Ahh the great days of 45's.. Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
Thanks Impala Internet radio for reminding me of this song
One of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman's finest compositions.
True and they were behind a lot of top acts in the 70s.
Takes me back to when I was ten years old, walking the cows into the milking parlour and myself and Dai The Milk singing this at the top of our voice, great times, fond memories.
Remember it well! Loved it then and love it now!
I do Love it
That 'fro is glorious
I remember this awesome tune its fab 🙂🎵
Love this.....
Erinnert mich an das was mal gewesen.
I think that this song is about his sister being homosexual. There is a line in the song that says “some even call it a crime“. Given that homosexuality was not legalised in the states until 2003 and believe me that blue with me away when I looked it up I think when you don’t mind by line in the song she has been involved with women in the past and this time it’s called up to her, opinions?
The lyrics have puzzled me. What could she have done that was so terrible - that she'd have to change her name and leave town for her own safety?
I don't know about elsewhere but lesbianism was never illegal in the United Kingdom. Some people of course might not have accepted a daughter who was gay.
I thought it mightve been about a girl falling pregnant and planning a rushed wedding?
It's a pity they didn't climb on the planes wing's and then the aeroplane takes off while they are singing.....ah well!!!😀🦘
Jayne Crofts my first girlfriend sadly Jaynes gone to a better place god bless you Jayne xxxx
There is no "better place".
Great song
Takes me back to my childhood. Love it
An Australian group as you can tell by their accents. Nice song from Mike Chapman also an Aussie who became a great success in England and Worldwide. Like a Lot of rich Aussie/English artists, he lives in the US now. 🙂
