Nigerians have been making progress internationally in music for a very long time. Prince Niko, Victor Owaifo, Fela Kuti, Sonny Okusson, Dan Ian & d Wrinkler’s Experience, Bongos Igwe, Chris Okoti, Jude Obi, etc had hit songs internationally way back in d 1970s -1980s. During those days, Ghanaian pop groups were even playing the songs of such 9ja artists as part of their repertoire. We Ghanaians were patronising our copycat musicians; whiles Nigerians were encouraging their musicians to produce their own stuff. Therefore it’s not Nigerians who killed our Ghanaian music : it’s we Ghanaians who killed our music. When I visited Nigeria in d late 70s I came with a group playing popular western music. which was only accepted in d North ( Kano) & Calabar in those days, we almost died of hunger until we turned to our Ghanaian music; we are Ghanaians but we didn’t even know how to play our own local music, we were compelled to learn our local music so that we could put food on d table. As a keyboardist I was able to play for a group in Asaba called d BLACK CHILDREN & IKENGA SUPERSTARS on their 1st album after d group split into two. Meanwhile I was a rhythm guitarist for our Ghanaian group ASHANTI AFRIKAJAH . we recorded PRAY TO GOD for Nigerphone records & EDE of OBOSI for OKEY Records. When we returned to Ghana in 1982 we couldn’t fit in bcos d trend was different. Bands we’re playing Bob Marley songs etc. I was d only one in our group who could adapt to d change, bcos whiles in Nigeria(Nnewi) I was learning jazz piano( Bob James, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea) so basically I was ahead of the average musician in Ghana. & at that time, Ghana had only one 24 track recording studio owned by Carlisle’s Hanford which was too expensive for d average Joe to afford. Another drawback for us Ghanaian musicians is, we usually write our songs in Twi; we seldom write hit songs in English but Nigerians have been doing this on a regular basis.as far as I can remember. This popular ASHAWO song was sang by a Nigerian way back in d 70s if not 60s. FEFENEFE which is an Ashanti proverb was sang by Fela Kuti long ago. OSIBISA is d only Ghanaian group that made it internationally. But they were a fusion of British cum African.

Everything said in this video is on point and great pieces of advice to Ghanaians.
But what I am happy about most is the acceptance of the truth about the origin and ownership of Afrobeat(s) that now seem to be emerging within Ghanaian social media and which is that Afrobeat(s) is fully a Nigerian owned genre, not Nigeria-&-Ghana.
Now that you people are getting out of the madness of claiming co-ownership of Afrobeat(s), you can now see clearer and think better how to move forward in getting Ghana to the global stage and we Nigerians can support you in whatever and however you decide. Peace

I’ve been saying it that if Ghanaians want to make it globally right away, they should join the train and take advantage of it otherwise they need to take the time and grow their style of music which will take years for them to build their music industry. Nigerians have come a long way with this. Think of when Plantation buys started singing, they sang reggae and so many other Nigerian artists. Tuface’s Hit song African Queen is Reggae. Nigerians understand Agile Business and don’t waste second guessing.

Ghana problems in music today is that no one can dance to thé beating while everybody can dance to all tribes music in Nigeria cos of thé béats. Ghanaians cannot do without Régie song & dance. While we Nigerians dance our culturels thats fit into afrobeat.

Truth is if you don't have it, you don't have it. Nigerians don't compete with anybody. They either introduce something or they just make what you introduced better and in the process win all the awards you would have won. When Nigerian musicians found out that Amapiano from SA would soon become big competition for Afrobeats, they just collected it from SA and made Afropiano (afrobeats and amapiano) out of it. Soon you'll have more music with amapiano beats coming from Nigeria than from SA bcos of the many stars born on a daily basis in Nigeria. In Nigeria there's always a new kid on the block.

Ghanaians allowed their jealous of Nigerians entertainment industry and unnecessary antagonism and Co petition to separate themselves from Afrobit.
Who Actually made Afrobits a Nigerian thing?... Ghanaians. Nigerian naturally look Afrobits as an African/west African type of music.... But then, suddenly Ghanaian isolated themselves from Afrobits.
Ghanaian should be peacefully competing with Nigerians within Afrobuts that belongs to all of us.
Did anybody told Ghanaians that Nigerians stoped every other genres like high life, Ogene and Xtian music because of Afrobits?
Ghanaian musicians should be taking advantage lf of big market of Nigeria and make it large by making Afrobits what it's, which is for all Africans.
Remmeber some Ghanaian actors who recognized this fact and came to join Noly wood and became popular and successful.... Nigerians showed them mad love, many Nigerians couldn't notice that they are not Nigeria...
Maybe Ghanaian should stop their unhealthy competition and jealousy against Nigerians and realize that we are all one.
Besides in music, Ghanaians will always out here, paint Nigerians in bad color to foreigners or non Africans.
We are one.... You blew yourself for making Afrobits a Nigerian thing instead of African thing

Why do you guys nationally spread this disinformation borne out of envy and believe it. Nobody who is not alive then can speak on it. Ghanaians cannot just stomach the fact that it is Nigerian music christened Afrobeat that the world is jumping on
