Serbian soldiers are patrolling the border where Kosovo meets Albania, the site of recent clashes between ethnic Albanian rebels.
The soldiers say tensions are heightened in the border area, with regular raids from the Albanians.
They say they want to keep the border region secure and are unaware rebel leaders have signalled a willingness to attend peace talks in Paris.
The border post at Mount Pastrik has been the scene of clashes between ethnic Albanian guerrillas and Yugoslav soldiers since the Serb crackdown on Kosovar Albanians began.
These days, despite international involvement and imminent peace talks in Paris, little has changed.
Every day, Yugoslav soldiers leave their border post to patrol the surrounding area.
They say this often involves facing what they call "provocations" from the Kosovo Liberation Army (K-L-A).
The rebel soldiers, fighting for Kosovo's independence from Belgrade, use the border to smuggle weapons and men in from neighbouring Albania.
The Yugoslav soldiers, whose daily duties centre on watching out for activities of this kind, say their job is extremely hard.

"This is a very difficult job. We are facing provocations from the Albanian side of the border almost daily together with frequent attempts of illegal crossings over the border. But we are only doing our job - defending the border of Yugoslavia."

The most recent clash took place less than a week ago, on January 28, when the Yugoslav army intercepted an arms consignment rebels were trying to smuggle into Kosovo.
Three K-L-A soldiers were killed and two Yugoslav soldiers injured.

@Shaban Ajeti you know we were under blockade, without almost any help from Russia, China and so on, while being bombed and attacked by over 20 countries of most powerful military in the world, right?
@Shaban Ajeti 1) In Bosnian war, we really got some help, and won in Bosnia. That help was minimal, just some volunteers
2) I was talking about Kosovo war, which we controled almost completely
3) We did get some help in Kosovo battle, but 75% of that army was Serbian
4) We almost never needed help, except sometimes against 10x larger enemy, even then we wouldn't always get help
this base was captured by the KLA, the KLA only suffered 4 casualties whilst the yugoslavs suffered 23 during the capture.

@@matija3500 On 9 April 1999, at 05:00 morning, an artillery barrage began from the Albanian side of the border, aimed in the direction of the Košare military outpost, which was occupied by the Yugoslav Army, in what became one of the bloodiest battles of the Kosovo War.[10] The Albanians attacked in three directions, the first was towards Rrasa e Koshares, the second was towards the well-defended Košare outpost and the third was towards Maja Glava. Approximately 136 KLA soldiers[11] reached the border and attacked Yugoslav positions. At that time less than 200 members of the Yugoslav Army were stationed at the front line. Bloody fighting ensued and lasted the whole day with 4 dead and one wounded on the Albanian side and 23 dead on the Yugoslav side.[12] Later, the KLA seized the peak of Rrasa e Koshares and immediately began entrenching themselves. Serbian reports claim that the KLA insurgents were assisted by British, French, German and Italian special forces.[13]

50% of the Albanians came after the coal miners went on strike in the late 1900’s.
40% came in the 1600’s when the Ottomans began mistreating Serbs. I do admit that Eastern Kosovo was and I Albanian. But Kosovo as a whole belongs to us both, as it holds both of our history.
