    1:30:20 Can someone explain why はじめようとすると思います is not a valid answer? "I think I will try to start [diet tomorrow]" it makes sense to me in english at least.

      I think it is a valid answer but you wanna emphasize the intention here so はじめようと思います seems to be the better choice. ( feel free to correct me if anyone knows better i am also learning for my N4, i am not good at japanese )

      @@xDarkRockst4rx I think you are right. "はじめようと思います" means that a person currently has the intention to start something, while "はじめようとすると思います" suggests that they think they will develop the intention to start in the future. Since we have a specific time for the plan to start the diet, "あしたから" (from tomorrow), "はじめようと思います" sounds more natural.

      ようとする is a bit different from “try to”although that is a translation you may see. I feel it’s more like “I am/was about to do…” It has a pretty strong feeling of intention so it feels redundant with と思います。
