This shape is not meant to be worn crossbody. I would never do so, too bulky and awkward. I would only wear this as top handle carry. It’s a gorgeous bag and the crossbody strap is useless.
I've been using this bag for 2 months and it's my absolute favorite Coach bag! The zipper is great, and it works quite well as a crossbody, despite the shape. The leather is soft so it molds to the hip as you wear it. The bag does not tip at all when it has stuff in it. I have zero issues with it and will be getting another color when more are released. Just my 2 cents.

Update: I returned the bag. After trying her out at home, I found she was just too heavy. Over 2 lbs empty. And, the top handles are hard and hurt my hands and forearm if I carried on the crook of my arm. I don’t usually like to shoulder or crossbody carry, but although doable this bag is truly too bulky to carry that way. Just not a comfortable carry. So, back she went. No regrets. Thank you for your review. They are always so helpful. I guess not every bag works for everyone. Like the Rogue 25. I could never get that bag to work for me as I don’t like all the strap clasps (too much going on) and to carry crossbody the bag hangs wonky. I saw the Ruby IRL last night. It is total 1941 quality. I mean WOW! I also thought the size was perfect (for me). The Ruby (and the Rogue) imho are truly meant to be just top handle bags. And, that is how I prefer to carry. But, I love the option of shoulder or crossbody carry for those moments where I need to be hands free. I tried out the Ruby both as shoulder and crossbody. Yes, more bulky than a true crossbody but not any more than the Rogue imho. And, I didn’t find it unbalanced. It hung balanced as opposed to the wonky Rogue hang. The zipper. Yes, a tad rough, but quality and I can see getting better with use. But, I never really zip my bag up for daily carry unless I am traveling or in a crowd. The leather dimpling. Ahhh, it is leather. I have had Rogues with this dimpling. And, people don’t seem to take issue with the crumpling look of an LV Speedy 25. Anyway, taken as a whole (the good and the maybe not so good) I think the Ruby is an exquisite bag. I purchased her in Black. ❤️
Well I just went to Coach to see the bag. You are right. It is bulky for cross body carry. And it was heavy with all of that hardware. But I do like the aesthetics of the bag. That’s what drew me to it. I’m still undecided on this bag because it has a lot of good features to it.
I am so glad you did this video! I have been pondering this in the chalk but now that I see it I hate the zippers and I don’t like the shape of it on the body. The zippers are the main deal breaker for me. My rogue zippers are smooth . Return it !
Probably one of the best honest videos i have seen from a real honest view and love the comments. I was dying to get this bag and now i am like i better not. It will end up sitting on the shelf like the rest of the awkward gotta have bags becaus i love them but not for me and it will take a lot of room. Definately return it because of the flaws. You spent to much to accept that from coach. I have found myself buying 3 to 5 tries with coach before i find one without flaws.
I have this bag and love it. It’s not huge and fits all the essentials. It’s great crossbody or with just the handles. It’s super soft leather. I have had no issues with the zipper so far. Obviously it’s not for everyone. But I love it.

I just received this bag today in the black leather. It is Beautiful! I love how the leather is so soft that it molds towards the body and doesn't look bulky; it is not a stiff leather. I also love that it has feet to protect the bottom. I think you might have gotten a bad one. Mine has no Zipper issues and they are meant to meet in the middle. I actually have the LV Speedy 25 in all materials and this bag is just as Beautiful for 1/3 of the price of the lesser expensive LV . I definitely will be purchasing the Chalk. Girl go back in the store and try again! LOL.... Cute Kitty :)
She complained that the handles were hard and hurt her hands and the crook of her arm which is how I wear my current bag. Do you agree with her? I'd love to get this bag but this video makes me not want to, especially the indentations on the back of the bag. I saw another video and his purse didn't have it so maybe....
Anyways, I have the same feeling you do.. I don't like how bulky it is. It reminds me of the Speedy B 25. The Ruby dimensions are super close. People RAVE about the Speedy B and how it's so great and it's the one everyone should get because you can wear it crossbody but... it's just SO bulky! With the Speedy sure you can squish it and have it mold to your body a little bit but then it doesn't look good. If Coach had just made this bag a little slim so it sits crossbody better I'd be all over it. I'd return it!

Lol it reminds me of the Coach Outlets Rowan Satchel 😆 but a higher version of it lol. Idk I kind of like it. The textile jacquard one looks good tho! Ooh so pretty! I might get it. Might even if the zippers aren’t good lol. Maybe they’ll loosen up with use. My rogue zippers use to be like that but they’ve gotten smoother over time.

So update mine just came in about 30 minutes ago and I am not happy, came with a huge stain that won’t come off bumping handles and glazing. If they won’t exchange in store definitely returning.
Update: I received my second ruby today. It came beautifully wrapped and packaged. It was wrapped really tight. I had to use scissors to open it. I will try out the bag and see how it goes. The first ruby I received was not good. I had to return it. It was not wrapped good. There was no dust bag. There were some discoloration marks on the handles. Not good.

Definitely better as a hand carry bag. Have you tried stuffing it to see if those wrinkles go away? It's such a pain to be disappointed in a bag due to manufacturing issues. Coach needs to work on their QC.

I’ve been impatiently waiting for the Ruby in green with the snakeskin to be released, and unfortunately, I have no Coach stores by me, so I have no choice but to order it. I always love a top handle/satchel/doctor/speedy style bag. But i'm not loving it now based on your video. It's really plain too. I think i like the MCM leather boston bag better. The embossed leather offers a little more interest. I would return.

OMG! Coach why do they keep releasing such beautiful bags!! Ok so I don't like the zipper issue or the strap sticking open and having difficulty closing. I had the same issue with my Hero shoulder bag strap but it reminds me of the LV black leather monogram speedy 20. Love the style but I agree with you the potential flipping of the bag is off-putting. TFS!
Informative review. Beautiful bag but the style name Ruby Satchel to me means NOT a crossbody bag. Designers seem to put crossbody straps on every bag but they don’t necessarily look good worn that way 🤷🏼♀️ It does look like a beautiful satchel, I’d buy it to carry that way 😊
Maybe you can get a different one?? At first I thought maybe you could stuff it to get rid of the bumps but the zipper sounds rough. maybe try some wax paper over the zipper to get it to run smoother. I’ve had a lot of success with doing that with tough zippers. I agree with another comment, if you have to convince yourself then maybe you don’t love it. For the price, you need to love it to keep it. It does look bulky also. I know I don’t want it. I have one similar so I’ll move on. Just my opinion. TFS.
I agree. I get very annoyed with coach sending out poorly handled bags. For the price you should expect perfection. If there are going to be imperfections i will put them there. Very disappointed in coach and appreciate all the comments. I am a short person and based on the comments i love it but it is likely not the bag for me.

I went to the coach boutique to exchange the ruby. The sales associates were in disbelief that they would send me a ruby with that hang tag. The sales associate said go get the display model ruby on the shelf. I said no, I would like one from the back. She went back to get a new one from the back. She unwrapped it in front of me and let me inspect the bag. The other sales associate said she had to check the bag to make sure it didn’t have a chip in it. Then they gave me their card and told me I can just order from them at the coach store. I just smiled and took the card.

I think I love the overall look but wanted it to be same size is the speedy nano. Maybe slightly bigger.

The bag is beautiful!! Not all the handbags are made to wear it crossbody even the straps are long enough. That is a top handle bag not crossbody.

For the zipper issue a Coach retail store can wax your zipper's teeth for it to run smoother. That should remedy the zipper issue.

You can order it through an SA in the store in the US now. There are only 200 in black according to my SA when I ordered mine on Saturday.
