Fantastic to see Battleship winning, I spent 5 years walking past him everyday at Vetschool in Liverpool on the way to lectures! Battleships skeleton is there in the facultynow I live in Camden SC home of the owners, the DuPont-Scott family, my wife takes care of their horses today!

The slow motion footage reveals how brutally hard the riders pull back in mid-jump. The fences are extreme. Beecher’s is inhumane.

In June 1938, Battleship returned to the U.S. He retired to stand at stud at duPont's Montpelier estate outside of Orange VA. Battleship died in 1958 at the age of 31 and his buried at Montpelier. For more details see the Montpelier (lifetime home of James Madison) or Wikipedia.

Lucky (?) 13 finished. At 15.2 hands, Battleship was one of the smallest horses to ever win the Grand National. His jockey was only 17 years old - the youngest rider to ever win this race.
