Heracles is Greek. Hercules is Roman. Hope this clarifies things. The Romans liked to copy the Greeks but change the names of the characters. They didn’t even bother changing Apollo’s name.

This was a really great battle, pitting two mythological heroes against each other! Loved the visuals of the battle! The ink splatters with each strike, the characters going to different parts of the scroll, the narration… it was truly a striking and epic clash!
My guess is the theme was popularized myths or something along those line, since both have essentially become roots for other characters in pop culture to draw inspiration from.
If and when they bring back Heracles he needs to go up against either Gilgamesh or Maui. Both are better matchups for him, and could be interesting or delve into.
If you want to learn more of Sun Wukong, I suggest looking up Overly Sarcastic Productions. They can be a bit fast paced during their early videos, but they do a deep dive into the Journey to the West, as the book slowly devolves into a monster-a-week pattern. So OSP just picks them out at random and whacky hijinks ensue.
Wu Kong easily solos the entire Marvel, DC, Dragon Ball, and all other universe in both fiction and non-fiction. LOL. Here is a big hint: Wu Kong's power is equal to that of *God the Father* in all religions. Wu Kong= The most powerful character ever. Not even Popeye or The Mask can beat him.

There's a reason Wukong is one of the most OP mythical characters EVER. Cause of the crazy stuff he's pulled off. In his own verse, he's the strongest being in existence behind Buddha, who is basically his verse's supreme deity.

Myths of Hanuman the monkey like Hindu god made its was into China along the silk road and also greatly influenced the character of Wukong, much like how Gilgamesh influenced Heracles.
@@426mak I think Sun WuKong was not inspired or sparked by Hanuman. Every strong fictional character has not the same but only similar abilities as Wukong. They differ not only in character, stories, purposes, and weapons, but also in more than just their names. Hanuman has parent, he born as a God, but WuKong was a Demon King born from a rock! Their mindset, their look, weapon, background, stories, purposes, everything.... Wukong and Hanuman are entirely different; the only similarity is that they both have a tail. "Sun WuKong" was the character taken from a real historical Chinese monk and his powers were mostly likely based on a Chinese legend that was recorded in Chinese ancient texts named "Classic of Mountains and Seas" (that existed in the 4th century BCE) about a superpower monkey named "Wu ZhiQi" who could shapeshift and got imprisoned under a mountain by the Legendary Yu the Great (the founder of China's Xia dynasty). And the record was longer before China even knew about the existence of Nepal or India.
Boba Fett's story is pretty parallel to the "mainline" Star Wars plot, so unless they talk a lot about his "dad" Jango and Star Wars Episode 2, there will be minimal spoilers. He appears too little in the movies to matter in that regard as well. That said, I'm a huge Clone Wars era nerd and little Boba is every bit a mandalorian as his "father". He's about Infinitely immortal and thoroughly kicked the collective asses of heaven and hell in two of ancient China's three major religions. Thematically, Sun Wukong is an allagory for the human mind; in that once you put your brain to it, anything is possible.
Not just shonen anime protagonists. You know the series RWBY? If you don't, there's a monkey Faunus in that series literally named Sun Wukong, which is a clear nod to the OG Monkey King.
I was already on the side of Wukong. not only was he just 5 different ways immortal but he has way more tricks up he's sleeve. like even before he gained immortality he was shooting lasers from he's eyes. Herc is strong but the Rock Monkey was Equal to Heaven! also~ i would recommend seeing Overly Sarcastic's videos on Journey to the West. it's really well made and goes over the bigger moments of the book.
Five different ways of immortality. And one of them, the immortality pills, may have thousands of layers upon layers. Even the peaches of immortality are at least a few dozen layers. Yes. That’s how they literally defined it in the myth. It’s so absurd it’s like Sun Wukong is the 80s Superhero that beats other 80s Superheroes.
This fight was both the first to feature people from mythology, and the first to have a narrator commentate over a fight. (Assuming you don’t count that tiny bit at the start of Deadpool vs The Mask)
So I only knew of the specifics of Journey to the West from watching OSP's animated coverage of the story and even I knew that unless Hercules had a weapon that totally negated immortality in every way, he just couldn't win against something who was like quadruple immortal. "Quadruple Immortal" sounds like a power a young kid gives his OC superhero when another kid says that another superhero could beat him.
It is that his narrative allows him to be the most powerful character in Deathabattle. Zatanna and Wanda could lock him up until they get old or something similar, no matter how much the plot is, then Wukong could learn the powers and the gods that give them powers would give Wukong and he would kill them because he doesn't obey anyone. the problem is for Wukong 100 years are nothing. The whole character is based on him becoming more powerful by fighting other characters.
3:40 "Boxing Existed" You seem surprised that a 1 on 1 fight existed for... ever? If you go find an uncontacted tribe in the middle of the Amazon and ask what they do for sport I guarantee the men will say they punch/kick eachother to see who is the best.
That explains why he had a monkey tail, a flying cloud, and a magic bo staff that expands and contrasts. Goku was originally going to be more monkey-like but it didn't look good so they made him more human-like. Goku wasn't going to be an alien, he was just going to be a monkey boy.
It's good that Deathbattle is trying something different. Shame, it didn't work with Deadliest Warrior when they did Zombie vs Vampire. When it comes to Boba Fett, he's only a spoiler character if you go beyond the Nine main films. Boba Fett is an odd case. He's not a big character in the films beyond being a child in the 2nd Prequel Attack of the Clones (2002), being the bounty hunter that transports Solo to Jabba in The Empire Strikes Back (1980 - original trilogy), and having an embarrassing defeat in Return of the Jedi (1983 - original trilogy). He is part of a few episodes in the animated Clone Wars series and has his own live action series The Book of Boba Fett (2021). He's more badass in spin-offs than the films.

Despite his OPness, WuKong isn't an adept underwater fighter and has to rely on BaJie and Wujing to lure underwater enemies out to open ground so he can fight them.
You should be fine to watching the next battle. It's just about Boba Fett, he's not a super prevalent character in the movies. You shouldn't have any worry of notable spoilers, especially since Death Battle is mostly focused on combat abilities, and he doesn't fight much in the movies.
Im not sure why he looks like that cause hes probably never eaten a grilled cheese sandwich....he hasnt eaten like 95 percent of the things most people have in their life or seen any movies any of us in the comments section may have he is uncultured to the max

one small thing death battle forgot to mention, that wine that sun wukong got drunk on when he ate the peaches, it was immortality wine that also gave him immortality.
A VS show you might be interested in is Smash Bracket. It’s like Death Battle, but they are focused on the Super Smash Bros roster. They use different research and calculation methods compared to DB, so it’s a breath of fresh air.
this was another battle where you have a really, REALLY strong character in Hercules, but he simply just doesn't stand a chance against who he's up against this one is probably even more one sided than homelander vs omniman
Every hair on sun wukongs body can turn into an entirely new sun wukong, and each of the hairs on those can turn into an entirely new one, forever, and each new one has the same strength as the original

His mom Alcmene is the great granddaughter of his father Zeus, his name being changed from Alcaeus to Heracles just to appease Zeus’s sister/wife Hera. One of his boyfriends (Heracles was bisexual) also happened to be his nephew Iolaus, one of his most popular romances as well since he helped slay the Hydra, and his third wife (fourth female lover) which he married after his death Hebe is... surprise surprise... Zeus’s daughter. Hebe is also the daughter of Hera which means he married his archenemies daughter. Hera being the goddess of Marriage made it a double burn.

To be honest, they didn't even go into all that Sun Wukong could do. He is the progenitor of transformations (literally thousands). This wasn't a close battle at all. Sun Wukong is a no brainer. They should've used more power Greek characters like Uranos, Tarturus, Gaia, Niks, Kronos, or Zeus.
I mean, we can all agree the theme for this Death Battle was along the lines of, Myths that inspired modern culture. As both are characters who are the basis for modern characters in their respective regions, in some form. With Wukong essentially being the “first” Shounen protagonist and Herc being one of the more notable western myths to be the basis for the likes of Superman and the such.
They didn't even cover HALF of wukong's abilities. Wukong is one of the most powerful beings in existance, for achieving the taoist way of immortality wukong learnt the 72 earthly transformations but they weren't transformations as that was a mistranslation in nearly 90% of the translations of wukong's myth, IN reality he gained 72 different magical powers, Shapeshifting being ONE of them. Wukong can freeze any being may it be god, man or animal completely solid, Stop time over an entire city, Leave his physical body in a form of a spirit, Force other people's spirits out of their body, Resurect the dead in more then one way, Command the dragon kings to change the weather for him, See through any and all illusions, Have his clones transform into weaponry he can weild so long as he can imagine any weapon, He can have his clones transform into them and survive complete disembowlment. In a story to prove his durability, wukong even took out all of his internal organs and then put them back in later jokingly going "I hope I put them in the right place" meaning only complete ahnilation would be capable of stopping him and even that's a big maybe. The infinite mountain he was carrying? There were 2 of those on his shoulders and he didn't just pick it up, A demon summoned it ontop of his head and DROPPED them on him, meaning he could survive being crushed under infinite weight. There are a VERY few things wukong cannot do, This matchup was extremely one sided and by the end of his journey when Wukong becomes enlightened and gains buddhahood he also gains Omniprescenece.

Funnily enough Sun Wukong *is not* the main character of the the story. Just around the first few chapters. He is the one that ends up saving the main character though.

He gets kidnapped a lot and has his spotlight stolen by Sun Wukong, but he is the one who is actually responsible for delivering the scrolls to the western heaven and can control the monkey king with a shrinking headband that can’t be removed.

After all the original Dragon Ball was based on Journey to the West and Goku is the main character and he was based on Sun Wukong (at least in the original Dragon Ball)

Wukong is so op that in Journy to the West, most of the time its not how he would defeat the demon he encounter. But to defeat the demon he encounter without harm the mortal in the area. Hes Superman before Superman even a thing
The de-immortalizing furnace was suppose to burn away his immorality. But sun wukong was so immoral that the furnace only burned away his "mortality" and being in there so long he actually absorbed the mystic fire and gain the ability to use fire magic.
Depends on your sources, but most depicts this is where he picked up his fiery eyes skill which lets him see through any disguises by transformation magic. But this is also where he picked up a weakness to smoke. And apparently being a rock monkey, he can't fight well underwater.
It's probably Achilles you're thinking of when it comes to "Troy", which is a terrible movie by the way, considering that someone decided to take the greek gods out of a telling of the Trojan War. You know, the war that ended up happening because of Eris.

The hilarious thing is that Wukong liked taking care of the celestial animals in the stable, if they had arbitrarily changed it so that it was a high position everything could be avoided.
No, Sun Wukong didn't pull the staff out of his ear. When he's not using it, he keeps it shrunken to the size of a needle and held behind his ear. Also, Wukong can use strands of his hair to not only create clones, bit also illusions. The "apple" he gave Heracles was a fake.

However Sun Wukong is inspired by the Hindu god Hanuman whom’s parents are unconnected to those powers which raises some questions. Though Hanuman’s spiritual father is Vayu the god of wind. I am thinking too hard about this but it’s fun.

Concerning your question about the clones, Sun Wukong’s clones are all supposed to be as strong as himself, but for some reason DB loves treating pretty much every clone they put in their show as if they’re shadow clones. They did that with Alien X too
Where did they get the footage for the Sun Wukong examples? Do you have any idea how many times Journey to the West has been adapted? Because I sure don't. Like Hercules he is a popular character who has been remade countless times. I've seen several video games with blatant Sun Wukongs, there have also been movies and TV shows and countless plays. This is a story that has survived 500 years after all.
@@theduckgoesmoo I believe I had seen Goku in action before I heard of the Monkey King, but I also watched Dragon Ball when I was really little. I found out later he was based on Sun Wokong and I started finding more and more characters based on him. The anime Saiyuki is also based on Journey to the West, with it's four main characters based on Sun and his companions. I think my first introduction to Journey to the West by name was in the manga Love Hina where they preformed a Journey to the West play during the beach arc. Maybe not the best representation as the cast brought their normal character quirks into the performance, as is typical when characters preform plays in anime. The two main characters played Sun Wokong and the monk Tripitaka, both of them. Close to the end one of the other characters had them switch roles so they could do a recuse the princess scene, only the demon king who was holding her captive was played by the guy she has a crush on, so she didn't want to be rescued. A lot of characters kind of went off scripted. Also if you see a monkey character in a video game who wields a staff odds are they are based on Sun Wokong.
Oh, and just to note, that staff Sun Wukong so casually flings around was not made as a weapon. It was made for a DRAGON to MEASURE THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN, and it's 17,880 GODDAMN POUNDS. That he twirls and spins like it's nothing.
The game at the end of Heracles' rundown is Smite It's a MOBA where the characters are all gods and heroes from various mythologies etc You got Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Chinese, Hindu, Japanese, Mayan, Celtic, Slavic, Polynesian, Yoruba, even more unexpected stuff like Lovecraft, Arthurian legend, and Haitian Voodoo Sun Wukong is also in that game btw I used to really enjoy it but it kinda fizzled out for me for some reason

My guess is the theme was popularized myths or something along those line, since both have essentially become roots for other characters in pop culture to draw inspiration from.
If and when they bring back Heracles he needs to go up against either Gilgamesh or Maui. Both are better matchups for him, and could be interesting or delve into.

They can be a bit fast paced during their early videos, but they do a deep dive into the Journey to the West, as the book slowly devolves into a monster-a-week pattern. So OSP just picks them out at random and whacky hijinks ensue.

When the army came to confront him, he was convinced that she had been plotting to betray him all along, so he killed her and took it.
10. Steal the Cattle of Geryon. First, he killed the giant Geryon with one of his Hydra blood arrows. Then he had to herd these cows all the way back, with Hera getting in the way every time. Turning into a gadfly to sting and annoy them, and flooding a river so that they could not cross (he just piled stones in there until the water level went down). He also had to deal with another giant stealing some of them along the way, using a trick from known cattle-thief Hermes. He just drove the remaining cattle near where the stolen cows were being kept so that they would call out for each other.
11. Steal the Golden Apples of the Hesperides. He persuaded Atlas to get them for him in exchange for temporarily taking on his burden. Atlas didn't want to go back initially, so he tricked him by basically saying 'could you hold this for a moment while I adjust my cloak?'
12. Capture Cerberus. He basically asked uncle Hades if he could take Spot out for a walk, and Hades said 'sure, as long as you don't use weapons'. So he slung the big puppy over his shoulders and carried him.

There's a reason Wukong is one of the most OP mythical characters EVER. Cause of the crazy stuff he's pulled off. In his own verse, he's the strongest being in existence behind Buddha, who is basically his verse's supreme deity.

Myths of Hanuman the monkey like Hindu god made its was into China along the silk road and also greatly influenced the character of Wukong, much like how Gilgamesh influenced Heracles.
@@426mak I think Sun WuKong was not inspired or sparked by Hanuman. Every strong fictional character has not the same but only similar abilities as Wukong. They differ not only in character, stories, purposes, and weapons, but also in more than just their names. Hanuman has parent, he born as a God, but WuKong was a Demon King born from a rock! Their mindset, their look, weapon, background, stories, purposes, everything.... Wukong and Hanuman are entirely different; the only similarity is that they both have a tail. "Sun WuKong" was the character taken from a real historical Chinese monk and his powers were mostly likely based on a Chinese legend that was recorded in Chinese ancient texts named "Classic of Mountains and Seas" (that existed in the 4th century BCE) about a superpower monkey named "Wu ZhiQi" who could shapeshift and got imprisoned under a mountain by the Legendary Yu the Great (the founder of China's Xia dynasty). And the record was longer before China even knew about the existence of Nepal or India.
Sun Wukong was basically a Chinese anime character that had toon force hundreds of years before the invention of animation.

Boba Fett's story is pretty parallel to the "mainline" Star Wars plot, so unless they talk a lot about his "dad" Jango and Star Wars Episode 2, there will be minimal spoilers. He appears too little in the movies to matter in that regard as well.
That said, I'm a huge Clone Wars era nerd and little Boba is every bit a mandalorian as his "father". He should be able to take the Predator.

The show you were asking about was called Young Hercules in 1998 with Ryan Gosling as Hercules. It was a prequel to Hercules the legendary journeys.
So I only knew of the specifics of Journey to the West from watching OSP's animated coverage of the story and even I knew that unless Hercules had a weapon that totally negated immortality in every way, he just couldn't win against something who was like quadruple immortal. "Quadruple Immortal" sounds like a power a young kid gives his OC superhero when another kid says that another superhero could beat him.
It is that his narrative allows him to be the most powerful character in Deathabattle.
Zatanna and Wanda could lock him up until they get old or something similar, no matter how much the plot is, then Wukong could learn the powers and the gods that give them powers would give Wukong and he would kill them because he doesn't obey anyone.
the problem is for Wukong 100 years are nothing.
The whole character is based on him becoming more powerful by fighting other characters.

Boba Fett is an odd case. He's not a big character in the films beyond being a child in the 2nd Prequel Attack of the Clones (2002), being the bounty hunter that transports Solo to Jabba in The Empire Strikes Back (1980 - original trilogy), and having an embarrassing defeat in Return of the Jedi (1983 - original trilogy).
He is part of a few episodes in the animated Clone Wars series and has his own live action series The Book of Boba Fett (2021). He's more badass in spin-offs than the films.

Despite his OPness, WuKong isn't an adept underwater fighter and has to rely on BaJie and Wujing to lure underwater enemies out to open ground so he can fight them.

A VS show you might be interested in is Smash Bracket. It’s like Death Battle, but they are focused on the Super Smash Bros roster. They use different research and calculation methods compared to DB, so it’s a breath of fresh air.

His mom Alcmene is the great granddaughter of his father Zeus, his name being changed from Alcaeus to Heracles just to appease Zeus’s sister/wife Hera. One of his boyfriends (Heracles was bisexual) also happened to be his nephew Iolaus, one of his most popular romances as well since he helped slay the Hydra, and his third wife (fourth female lover) which he married after his death Hebe is... surprise surprise... Zeus’s daughter. Hebe is also the daughter of Hera which means he married his archenemies daughter. Hera being the goddess of Marriage made it a double burn.
Hercules in Greek myth was actually not involved in the invasion of troy, the heroes involved were the heroes Achilles and Odesseus, while Hercules was involved with Jason and the Argonauts

I mean, we can all agree the theme for this Death Battle was along the lines of, Myths that inspired modern culture. As both are characters who are the basis for modern characters in their respective regions, in some form. With Wukong essentially being the “first” Shounen protagonist and Herc being one of the more notable western myths to be the basis for the likes of Superman and the such.
They didn't even cover HALF of wukong's abilities. Wukong is one of the most powerful beings in existance, for achieving the taoist way of immortality wukong learnt the 72 earthly transformations but they weren't transformations as that was a mistranslation in nearly 90% of the translations of wukong's myth, IN reality he gained 72 different magical powers, Shapeshifting being ONE of them. Wukong can freeze any being may it be god, man or animal completely solid, Stop time over an entire city, Leave his physical body in a form of a spirit, Force other people's spirits out of their body, Resurect the dead in more then one way, Command the dragon kings to change the weather for him, See through any and all illusions, Have his clones transform into weaponry he can weild so long as he can imagine any weapon, He can have his clones transform into them and survive complete disembowlment. In a story to prove his durability, wukong even took out all of his internal organs and then put them back in later jokingly going "I hope I put them in the right place" meaning only complete ahnilation would be capable of stopping him and even that's a big maybe.
The infinite mountain he was carrying? There were 2 of those on his shoulders and he didn't just pick it up, A demon summoned it ontop of his head and DROPPED them on him, meaning he could survive being crushed under infinite weight. There are a VERY few things wukong cannot do, This matchup was extremely one sided and by the end of his journey when Wukong becomes enlightened and gains buddhahood he also gains Omniprescenece.

Like Hercules he is a popular character who has been remade countless times. I've seen several video games with blatant Sun Wukongs, there have also been movies and TV shows and countless plays. This is a story that has survived 500 years after all.

@@theduckgoesmoo I believe I had seen Goku in action before I heard of the Monkey King, but I also watched Dragon Ball when I was really little. I found out later he was based on Sun Wokong and I started finding more and more characters based on him.
The anime Saiyuki is also based on Journey to the West, with it's four main characters based on Sun and his companions.
I think my first introduction to Journey to the West by name was in the manga Love Hina where they preformed a Journey to the West play during the beach arc. Maybe not the best representation as the cast brought their normal character quirks into the performance, as is typical when characters preform plays in anime. The two main characters played Sun Wokong and the monk Tripitaka, both of them. Close to the end one of the other characters had them switch roles so they could do a recuse the princess scene, only the demon king who was holding her captive was played by the guy she has a crush on, so she didn't want to be rescued. A lot of characters kind of went off scripted.
Also if you see a monkey character in a video game who wields a staff odds are they are based on Sun Wokong.
Oh, and just to note, that staff Sun Wukong so casually flings around was not made as a weapon. It was made for a DRAGON to MEASURE THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN, and it's 17,880 GODDAMN POUNDS.
