Foundation looks good! Got a lot of catching up on videos to do...so I work at the orange big box store. I wouldn't order anything for them to pull and deliver...there are a bunch of kids that work in deliveries that just don't care nor do they even know what good lumber looks like. Hence the load of wrong and poor quality lumber you got. Always pick that yourself. Watch leaving any pressure treated lumber out in the sun it will warp right before your eyes if it's not dried yet. Good luck guys!
"A" for effort. Just a couple of pointers...use PT for the sill plate; put foam sill seal BEFORE putting any walls up on cement walls and floors ( NEVER ,have untreated or treated wood in contact with cement); rack the wall (square it) and nail temporary bracing in place before lifting the way in place.; bottom sill plate is installed and squared First, then the walls and floor structure is build on top of the squared (and anchored) pt sill plate
Waned lumber, where lumber has curved edges and shows pieces of bark . For a #2 grade (which is what is most commonly found at lumber dealers), wane is allowed to be up to 2/3 thickness and ½ width for ¼ length. On a 12 foot long 2×6, the wane could be 2-3/4” on the wide face, 1” in depth across the 1-1/2” face and three feet in length. Your wood will have grade stamping on it...like 2 HEM FIR. AS you have learned: keep materials, that may be effected by water, elevated and covered.
Sorry for your problems. You might want to consider Carter Lumber or Big L. I'm not a builder, but I thought there is an insulation that goes were the concrete touches the wood, and the wood is supposed to be treated.
Suzanne I agree with the three posters below. The wood should be bought from a reputable lumber yard. Another tip as old as carpentry: measure 📐 twice cut once. Two by fours aren’t. They are 1.5 x 3.5. You were off by three inches because of the two sill plates. Sill plates are the top and bottom boards of your wall. Each 1.5 thick. Together they make up the three inches that you had to take it all apart for. Good news you look great in your Truewerk outfit. And what’s more important than looking good 👍
My guess on the sheathing, it that it is coming on a different truck. That was a small truck for that many sheets. "Premium" lumber is graded by the size and number of knots in the boards. Unfortunately the barky lumber is way to common nowadays due to the fact that old growth pine are few and far between. The stuff with bark should be fine for most of the build. While not pretty, it should be fine structurally. I would use lvl studs on any wall that you plan to hang cabinets on. It may also be a good idea to use them on taller walls as well. The settling of the dirt around the foundation is perfectly normal. It will settle a fair amount over the next couple months. The final grade should take care of all that.
I miss making prefabricated walls. We always used the better lumber I'm guessing it's a #2 premium. We would use the other stuff for cripplers . I just miss it . I'm guessing 2x4's treated and or 2x6's that's for the bottom part of the wall if it's going to cement I'm guessing.
*Do you not put the anti-dampness protective paper between the timber & the concrete... to stop any dampness getting into the timber frame in the USA?? 🙂 I agree with the others... send the timber back... but also tell your builder.... so that they are aware of the crappy timber being sent out..... 🙂nz*
Should have checked drivers delivery invoice to make sure you're getting what you ordered. Need to check before he unloads truck. If it's not right you should reject load
Going forward I think that's the right way to go. I didn't have a list of what was being delivered, but I DID take a photo of their drop list - good thing because they didn't have a record of it at the lumbar yard and had thrown it away right after.
Those big box stores get the worse lumber now and get all shit boards to for people to buy now,,,,,when I'm framing a house I get all my materials from a high end lumber yard too only...
Get that safe room built pronto!!!!! Yeah, send that junk back and get it from a real lumberyard that lives and dies on the quality of their lumber. I have never found decent lumber at Lowes or Home Depot. On that big wall, measure twice, cut once ;)
in the US do you people not use a sill gasket so wood does not contact cement directly and help seal water from coming in because we all know how perfectly flat that cement is
Did you place your Moisture Barrier between your concrete and your 2X6??? I wouldn't do anymore work or you may not be any warranty or the framer may walk from job site???
You are not having building problems, you are having supplier problems.. you should know better then to buy your house building materials from a big box store.. You should have looked around and see who most of the builders buy there materials from
Sometimes that's just how it edits out. If my editor is working more closely on one clip and he's pressed for time then that's what comes through ;) We were upset about the wood, but that was it, everything else as mentioned in the video has been great :)
Just STOP. You should have proper lag bolts to hold the Sill Plate. That truck is not rated to haul that much load. Or half that much. When using the FEL, put the load all the way back to the vertical portion. Not sure what that stove pipe strapping is supposed to achieve. on top of the wall. Walls should have been checked with Laser and poured Level. Leave it to the pros. They will be blaming you for 'helping' failures.

Sorry for your problems. You might want to consider Carter Lumber or Big L. I'm not a builder, but I thought there is an insulation that goes were the concrete touches the wood, and the wood is supposed to be treated.

It's nice wach you on youtube Yeah, I really enjoy watching you guys. Build that house stay safe
Thankyou!
Great video Suzanne. Some of the lumber would not pass inspection 😮.Take care and have a blessed and safe week 🙏
We sent that load back 😅
It's going to be a long, stressful process building your new house. Try to not let every detail and screw up bother you and enjoy the build!
That made me almost cry😢😢😢

Lol, yeah erik thought he was buying it from a high dollar store since we paid more than bog box stores 😢
You can level out the imperfections in the concrete with a hammer. You should have some kind of Sill seal in between the wood and concrete anyways.
Yep we do
It's there 😂, and we used a grinder for the lumpy concrete 😊
@@ruralridez6165 I'm still waiting for the picture you were going to send me lol

They told us the sheeting wasn't on the delivery schedule 😢,but you are right on the lvls 😊
Oh yea look at the blue print lol. It should tell you where the treated goes lol
wow
dealing with lumber yards is a nitemare thats why i bought a mill then no ones fault but my own

2x4 for inner walls and 2x6 for outer 😊
@@This1LifeWeLive yes 😁👌🏽
Hurry up, then wait.
We have been pretty fortunate that we haven't had TOO much of that . . . I think the pace is about right for our life schedule ;)
Did u put the foam insulation in between the lumber and the concrete
ye :)
May all involved have enough sleep Not dreaming of wth happen there! R.R. Mi. wishing ya all the luck.
Thankyou ❤
now what's the condition? do you contact him?

yes we do sill seal

Here if the roof trusses were delivered really early we would have refused the delivery
Those big box stores get the worse lumber now and get all shit boards to for people to buy now,,,,,when I'm framing a house I get all my materials from a high end lumber yard too only...
These came from a high end lumber yard 😢
Those 2x6 boards look like the same trash I picked up from ACE in Eaton Rapids a couple weeks ago.
Get that safe room built pronto!!!!! Yeah, send that junk back and get it from a real lumberyard that lives and dies on the quality of their lumber. I have never found decent lumber at Lowes or Home Depot. On that big wall, measure twice, cut once ;)
U do not order a house materials from a big box store ,,,go to a big lumber yard and pick it out yourself too..
We ordered the materials from a home building lumber yard and paid more for it thinking it would be better 😢
yes sill seal is a code thing and a brick slid back and forth knoxs the hi spots off pretty well wear gloves
Good idea
@@ruralridez6165 not a idea this is what was done way back when we buildt houses and i was slave labor aka a kid built up to 27 in one year
in the US do you people not use a sill gasket so wood does not contact cement directly and help seal water from coming in because we all know how perfectly flat that cement is
Yes we do. Sill Seal foam gasket.
Yes it's pink sill we stapled it to the treated bottom plate
💋💋💋💋
Did you place your Moisture Barrier between your concrete and your 2X6???
I wouldn't do anymore work or you may not be any warranty or the framer may walk from job site???
Yes pink sill seal you can see it attached to the bottom plate we stapled it on
Yep, as Erik mentioned we have the pink sill seal. It was explained in the video too ;)
Send it back and get it from a lumber yard now and a box store now too also..period too
You are not having building problems, you are having supplier problems.. you should know better then to buy your house building materials from a big box store.. You should have looked around and see who most of the builders buy there materials from
Not from a big box store. The lumber we replaced it with came from big box store and it was super nice.
We bought from a high end lumber yard... the better stuff we got at the big box stores 😉
I don't like the drama. Your building a new home try to be positive
Sorry for all the drama we hope things go smoother. It's been pretty stressful this is our first time building.
Sometimes that's just how it edits out. If my editor is working more closely on one clip and he's pressed for time then that's what comes through ;) We were upset about the wood, but that was it, everything else as mentioned in the video has been great :)
Your going to pull your hair out worrying about it relax it gets done when it gets done or you get a shit job done.

We used the straps and the lag bolts 😊
I've actually never seen lumber dropped off a truck quit like that 😳
I was expecting a crane maybe, lol, but I guess if you have lots of deliveries than you gotta drop and run . . .
