Thank you very much for your conscius analyses and for share your knowledge. I'm from México and I'll really appreciate if you could react to a forgotten classic singer. His name was Alfredo Kraus. This video of Dimash makes me remember him with his performance of "Je crois entendre encore".
      Congratulations for your channel.

I love how Dimash moves when he sings. Almost like he is sculpting the Music. Some call it over dramatic but I think it suits his voice... amazingly rich and varied. He is never boring. (He is the first singer in my 40 years of life that I have yet to get bored by.) I can only imagine how he will further develop in the following decade… or no, I actually can't imagine. Which makes the future so exciting with him.

I feel the same too. I am very observant of how he moves while singing. He's too connected to his song and telling the story what's behind it. A very effective story teller. For me, his movements are not overly dramatic. He's just too good that's why.

lol over dramatic XD what morons. That's just how he express his art. Like pianist or violinist moving while they play, its just because you're so much into the music/song that you just can't stay still. its 100% normal and actually nice to see.

This song was my introduction to Dimash so I was super excited to see the notification that you'd posted a reaction video to it. I literally dropped what I was doing to watch it. As I've seen and listened to this particular performance a million times, it was actually really interesting to watch *you* (react) the whole time. Your analysis, my friend and I have agreed, is simply the best among the countless ones I've gone through. I'm learning so much in the process and I no longer know which I like more at this point. Thank you so much for this.
    _______________
I think that for me it is the colours in his voice that I find most exciting because I listen just to the audio quite a bit too. The rest is the flowering really but what a stunning bouquet is the final result indeed. What really tickles me are probably the little hints he gives us (almost certainly on purpose, tho some we just pick up from watching him so many times) for what might be coming next, like that naughty smile in Opera 2, and delivering, or giving us something we simply did not see coming, no matter the intensity of his body language/movement. That he keeps us guessing is what makes so many of the reaction videos all the more enjoyable too. There is no way of guessing what is awaiting you when you start watching/listening to any of his songs. It's all so so calm and slow. He comes at you so fast tho! His pregnant pauses are so loud you can't help hold your breath along with the hypnotized person watching his videos for the first time. And in the studio/concert hall, you can almost see the tension rise as the ceiling is coming down and everyone's face is like "no thriller (film) has ever held my undivided attention to this degree."

Well said. I would add that Dimash is something heavenly, magical, sublime, incredibly tender, sweet and delicious. For me, his singing is something beyond the limits. Dimash makes us experience wonderful emotions and very few performers manage to achieve such emotional union with the audience. And in whatever language he sings, everyone understands what he sings about.

What I love about dimash is that when he is singing he doesn't just sing but he give it all....how he is acting and moving and the sound and effects in his voice is in the right time for example when he sing a song u hear the soft voice in some parts that makes me relax or strong and powerful that makes me excited and like this and it is in the right place and in the right time and I can't get bored at all listing to him coz he always do new things (sorry for my bad English )

Thank you for this very informative series! I'm not a singer (PhD in philosophy, so singing wasn't high on the to-do list....) but do enjoy understanding the hows and whys of vocal technique. You and Sam are top talents in this sort of analysis. And what can I say about Dimash? Well, as others have noted, he is a total package. If I had never seen him perform I would probably enjoy his vocals, but to see AND hear -- wow!
SOS was the first song I saw/heard Dimash perform and I was transfixed: every movement, turn of the hand, stance -- all contributed to the meaning of the song. This interpretive skill mixed with his voice puts Dimash into the company of a select few, I would imagine.
What I particularly liked -- something you pointed out -- was the way his voice matched the words of the song ("bird-like highs"). I speak French so was able to follow the lyric easily when I first heard it, but even absent that, I'd guess that most listeners knew something special was happening. I've listened to several other singers do this song but I believe DImash has pushed the bar a bit higher.

IN CONTESTS Dimash will go more extreme in high notes to WOW the crowd and judges but in concerts he will restrain himself more except for a few songs eg "All By Myself" where he plays for the crowd with crazy vocals.Dimash is the best tool for a Vocal coach to teach since 99% of other singers have more of a 1 or 2 style only repertoire.

Greetings of Peace Dimash…! And to all the personnel’s who worked with you, and all others who did the translation, produced videos
    and uploaded it on line.
I still browse your music videos from time to time to see what still store in there. I’m just wondering how much effort and strength you have invested into it and to reach such a powerful voice and the many other talents that you have. Indeed it is really a great work. How you were able to develop such a heights of your talents is really admirable and worth learning. And it is much more beautiful because you sing it by heart, naturally and at your heart’s content with joyful disposition.
The discipline, courage, dedication and high ideals in pursuing your singing career to the best of your ability the best you can is worth imitating not only in our individual professional fields but also in living our day to day life. Hope your listeners around the world especially the young will learn something from your optimistic views in pursuing your career, your persistency, courage, creativity and perseverance. Your labors are now indeed bearing fruits in abundance. And so my heartfelt
congratulations to you, to your family and all others who supported you all the way through as a musician. For me as a listener it counts a lot the personal
disposition of the singer and the content of its music.
My other concern whenever I listen to music is that, I usually ask: WHAT MESSAGE THIS MUSIC BRINGS ..? TO THE WORLD..? TO PEOPLE..?
Although all your music are very good, full of content and meaning but I like most this music, because for me it speaks a message of truth, values and realities
of human life. I feel that, it is not just enough to give my thumbs up to like this music, but I’m deeply moved to share something more about the richness and
deeper meaning of it. Actually I have enumerated 10 of your songs with my personal commentary and reflection on it and posted it in RUclips each of it in
different phases because it’s quite lengthy my reflection on it.
Of course with due respect to the composers, writers and singers of these music for whatever their purpose and intention would be, will always take precedence. The thoughts that I will be sharing below about these music is only the fruits of my personal reflections based on the things that I highly valued and on how I perceived it myself and the message of this song that reaches out to me.
For all those who read these reflections and commentaries of mine about this piece of music mostly performed by Dimash. If you think it is helpful for you, for your family and friends you can share it to them as you please, and I do really appreciate it. Or maybe you might have a different reflection experience of this music
than mine; you can always revisit this music or other music of Dimash on line. Your own personal comments and critics to this commentary and reflection of mine is
very much welcome and highly appreciated too.
Song of Dimash “S.O.S D’UN TERRIEN EN DETRESSE” (Ester Rabi’s Commentary & Reflection on this song: I like this music because it reminds me the truth and Realities of Human Life)
Suffering and death is one of the realities of human life. It is important that we should know the basic truth about it, so that it will not cause us fear and distress in
our life’s journey, but rather to remind us all of our ultimate destiny as people of faith.
For me, there are 3 kinds of suffering we experienced in life: 1st suffering that God allows, 2nd suffering which is the results of our own choices and decisions and 3rd is the suffering which is cause by other people to us. In whatever forms of suffering we are experiencing, know that, if it is discern well it will gain us eternal merit. Note that it is not important how much and how long we suffer, or who cause us to suffer, but how is our attitude towards it when it comes into our life…? All of
these three can be an opportunity or a means of grace that we will grow in virtue, when we accept it with great humility and discernment.
Our usual human tendency is, if we can, we try to avoid any pain and suffering in our life. However we can’t deny also that life is mixed of many learning experiences both in joys and in difficulties and I supposed we need it both, because it contributes and helps us mature and grow in many aspects of life. Suffering and
death may seem contrary to our own human thinking or world’s way of thinking but in it, there’s a certain wisdom which is richer and deeper that no one can fully
understand. Suffering reminds us the real fact that we are all fragile human beings; that we are limited and we are not God.
Sufferings are human reality and consequences of sin that affects us all. It helps us see the real worth and value of things and meaning in life. Likewise, if we are
open to grace it helps us become vulnerable, sensitive and compassionate to others. It sharpens our awareness that this earth is not our permanent and true
home. We should remember that we are strangers and pilgrims on this earth” St. Paul reminded us that “the sufferings of this present time are nothing to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us later.
Suffering purifies and refines us of any life’s superficiality into an authentic one. Though no one really is actively searching for suffering in his / her life, but honestly truth compels us to admit that sufferings do have a great value in our life and by experiencing it personally in reality, you will never be the same person. The hope of heaven gives us joy even in the sufferings of this life.
In God’s plan, human beings were created for holiness and eternal life with him. But through the original sin that enters into us, our nature has been wounded, and we experience suffering and death. This was not part of God’s original plan, but it is part of the reality of our human lives now.
Death for us is a frightening mystery because we are being stripped off of all our attachments to this world; our body lies corrupt; our immortal soul goes to meet the Lord. We will see the whole truth of our lives, and we will face God’s judgment.
Death creates in us a feelings and emotion of fear, separation, sadness and pain. Many times we evade this reality and we try to question and argue with God why…? But all our efforts failed because whether we like it or not at the end we all die. Death comes in our life anytime anywhere. No material things, good health, young age can guarantee of its extension.
If this life were the only one we had, death would definitely be the great tragedy. But In God’s plan, however, death is not the end of everything, but the border that enables every human being to enter the endless place of eternity. For all those who have done their best to respond to God’s grace, to die is to cross from an imperfect type of existence into a new and fuller life lived in God’s presence.
Often we feel the greatest misfortunes, when death struck in a person, depriving him or her greatest treasures a person can possess which is life itself. Death is such a
peaceful event in our life if we die in the state of grace, meaning if we did reconcile with God and at peace with others.
Death is the end of our earthly life. Our lives are measured by time, in the course of which we change, grow old and, as with all other living beings on earth. Since it is unknown to all of us the time of our death, therefore, it is best that we prepare at all times, otherwise we are caught by surprise of not being ready when God
comes to take us to be with Him forever in our eternal home in bliss.
Once again, thank you for your music and service to us. Rest assured of my support with you. God Bless..!.
    With Gratitude, Ester Rabi, Philippines

No visual tension of Dimash's singing apparatus that really exists and is relieved by the movements of hands, probably because of his strong diaphragm (location of tension).

Great analyzes as always, Dr. Marc. Thanks for that! After hearing Dimash (all songs on YT), I´m more impressed by the harmonies he creates, his ability to play with his immense toolbox. Of course, his high notes and belting is formidable, but I´m more a fan of his creativity and how he builds a song up. The "little things" he does are a feast for my ears (like the ending of this song). And, would you please analyze "Late Autumn"? Thank you in advance!

Wonderful, so much information. I was reminded of my high school choir director who would point at his mouth and smile during performances to remind us to keep our cheeks up. Dimash is the second artist whom I don't care if I understand the language or not, they are so deeply expressive that I feel the intention. The first is Lara Fabian, who Dimash admires and has covered 4 of her songs, so I find that connection sort of fascinating given they're the only two who can affect me so deeply in a foreign language. Speaking of the great diva Lara, please do one of her songs. You're Not From Here is an incredible performance (From Lara With Love concert) or Llora (Live at the Kremlin 2014) for something more classically based.

Marvelous analysis, I heard these concepts so many times in the past but now I fully understand each meaning. He is very good at seamless transitions and dynamic among dozen others but I enjoy very much when he starts so low and ends up so high. Lately I got very curious about bel canto technique, watching opera singers and I was wondering if, after you have watched many Dimash performances (one option would be the diva dance at Singer), you can tell if he is any close to master this difficult technique. Glad I found this channel, you are most likely the best voice teacher on yt with such professionalism and clarity. Thank you so much!

I'm not sure what sort of vocal training Dimash has gotten, or is getting, but I would love to hear what he was like after going through some proper, intensive classical training. He is working with an amazing instrument, not just the octave range and power on the lower and upper vocal register/ranges, but also the fact that he can sing both softly and sweetly when he is up into the high notes (which is honestly not something I've seen a lot of counter tenors be able to do). Part of me feels though like he's not using his voice to its fullest ability though, which I could be totally wrong with, but listening to him I get the impression that he's at about 75-80% of what he sounds capable of.

@@barbarakaufman270 Really, wow that's interesting. I suppose I'm just more used to listening to operatic countertenors that whenever I listen to Dimash, who I consider more 'Pop', as much as I adore his performance I'm left with a feeling of wanting more from him, like he's holding back in some way. That's just my perception.

@@claireeyles7560 He have said doesn't want to limit himself to one genre. He want's to explore and mix different genres. I think you are wrong when you say that he is holding back. This is how he want's to sing, to mix and explore. He brings something new and exciting and the best of all he get people to listen and appreaciate music they normaly never would listen to. That itself is a huge accomplishment.
