It still is the best shot Western that I know. The nature vistas, the drawn-out scenes oozing with atmosphere and the parallax effect close-ups in the final duel (along with the set design) are all outstanding.
I'm a 90's guy and just watched this for the first time. The cinematography in this movie was so ahead of its time! Incredible sets! Visual storytelling masterclass
I was born in 89 and I also just watched it for the first time after watching the good bad and ugly trilogy countless times since I was a kid with my dad. Once upon a time in the west blew my fucking mind

I would love to hear his thoughts about "My Name Is Nobody". I saw a lot of westerns with my grandfather as a kid and that's one that always stuck with me.
1:21 It's funny how QT is talking about the directors he liked getting more famous as time went on - he is probably part of the reason that happened. His success and willingness to talk about his influences led people to those directors.
No, he is not part of that reason, and him saying that is the equivalent of a teenager saying 'I liked them before they were cool'. It's also disingenuous as tons of these directors were highly regarded decades before Tarantino, especially Leone. Tarantino just drops in stuff like that because he can't help bragging and glazing himself. If he gives one compliment to another, he has to give one to himself.
@@karsten11553 Nah it's just a classic Tarantino brag, like him saying "Almost all the directors I liked, their stuff, y'know got more respected as time went on.", which is the equivalent of saying 'I liked them before they were cool', which is the way teenagers talk. Bronson turned down the role of the man with no name, after Clint’s and Sergio’s success with that trilogy you know Bronson realized he needed to jump on this
I believe the greatest Western of all time, then, of course, closely followed by the timeless, incredible Clint trilogy. I'm sure many will agree with me on this.
I’ve seen the exact print he’s talking about at The Vista. Quentin is a massive proponent of seeing movies on film. He does not have a digital projector at either of his theaters. It’s not really that it’s better, but that it’s a clean, unfaded, well colored, and high quality print that looks really nice. If you’ve never seen a movie on film it just has a different cinematic quality and experience than digital.
He didn't talk about it at all, he just bragged about his film print, then bragged about another film print he had, and then said the equivalent of 'I liked them before they were cool'. He can't help but glaze himself every time he speaks.
I completely blame Sergio Leonie for ruining the western experience. I just can't compare any other western to his brilliance. Theres his work and then there's the rest. Perhaps a bit harsh.

Sergio Leon where every cowboy is a badass with their own personal score playing in the background.

It's alright, has a lot of good to it but Bronson while good is a poor man's Eastwood.
I like it even more than the Dollars trilogy, probably my favorite movie in general, really.
I've seen quite a few spaghetti Westerns but tell casuals they're not missing much by just sticking to those 4.
@@playedout148 Sound advice - even if, as a moderate fan of the genre, I love several of the other ones.
Its the better film although good bad and the ugly is the more entertaining
Corbucci's 'Django and the Great Silence are both great but Leone's 4 spaghetti westerns are on another level.
The good the bad and the ugly will always be the best western of all time this is the second best
I agree!

Henry Fonda should've won his Oscar for this movie. One of the greatest villain performances of all time.
Sergio leone is probably the most influential on quentins style
This score is so haunting; more and more I listen to him I consider Ennio Morricone one of THE greats of cinema scoring.
This film has the most haunting and angelic soundtrack of all time. Beautiful music, and a phenomenal western!
That would be the great Ennio Morricone.
