at 5:48 the correct SQL query is $sql="SELECT * FROM {$this->tableName} WHERE {$field}={$value}";

You are a godsend! Initially, I placed the semi colon before the ending quotation mark for the query string and then the following $stmt on the next line was underlined red with the error message: "Unexpected Token". Woops.
