Hi Kristin, I always love your excitement talking about books and what you read. Not sure if I read any of her books in school. Not sure if I'll ever be ready to tackle a big book like that, unless I am all caught up on You Tube and take a week off from work, and sit by the pool or beach and just relax and read!
Ha! Well I say tackle it if you are in mood for Victorian literature but by the pool I may pick up something lighter in pages. Nice to see you Nancy! ❤️
I remember learning that George Eliot was a woman in university, and being blown away that women would ever have had to use a man's name. How far we've come. I don't think I've read any of her books, though Silas Marner sounds very familiar, so maybe I did read that one in my classes. Too long ago to remember, lol.
I started Middlemarch last year and got about a quarter of the way through. I was enjoying it, but for whatever reason didn’t pick it up again. I’m thinking about picking it up again in the spring as my chunky book for the season 🙂
Well I hope I didn’t led people to think it’s tragedy - I would say the ending was more happy than not but not everything always worked out for people and I found it more satisfying in the choices if that makes sense. If you truly like more unhappy endings I do recommend Hardy books. Speaking of which did you read Tess of DUbberville? I would wonder what you’d think of that one.
@@EntertheBook I don't necessarily crave an unhappy ending, but they are more refreshing than walking happily ever after into the sunset. 🤣 No, I haven't read it. Is it a series?
@@BooksCauseInsomnia nope it’s just a Classic book. A bit like four winds in feel to me- the main girl never catches a break. I didn’t like it but so many really do so wondered if you’d read it.
I really want to get to this this year as well. I’ll probably read it after something else of hers though. Starting with their best book sometimes makes it hard to read their other stuff. So I like to built up to their best work, typically. Lovely edition. Great review!
Thank you for your review. I'm going to push this up on my tbr. I had to check to make sure I have a copy so I can read it. I do. Hooray. Your comment of it not having a happy ending is helpful. I like that books aren't always packaged in a tidy little "happily ever after" bow.
Not your traditional happily ever after but I should say the characters were almost all in a better place so it wasn’t a depressing ending like Hardy gives us.
Beautiful copy. I enjoyed Middlemarch, it dragged a bit for me, but I did really like it in the end. I really want to read Romola now by her because it’s set in Florence.
I love books set in places I want to go to. Thank you! Sometimes when they changed storylines it took me a minute to get back into it but most of them I really liked in this book. Thanks for taking time to comment! 🧡

I fell in love with her writing after Silas Marner! I might have to schedule Middlemarch for Victober. Thanks for the lovely review!
Sounds like a plan to me :)
Wow! Higher than Pride and Prejudice! That is a compliment indeed! I have never read Middlemarch but you are tempting me very much! Great review! 😊📚
I know I literally lost subscribers- but I have to keep my reviews honest 😂 (I can be wrong but I am real)

I read that one because a teacher friend said it was her favorite Classic of all time and it’s good too. I need to read all her books!

It is a longer book for sure. And I think one has to be in mood for this type writing but I was! Good goal of a chunky book though!
That sounds like what I would really like. I’m adding it to my TBR. Thanks Kristen!
I think whenever you are in a Victorian writing style mood you would definitely like this one.
This book sounds like a breath of fresh air. There's something so refreshing about endings that aren't happy. It's much more realistic.

Pride and Prejudice is not a Victorian novel it is a Regency novel. Great review of Middlemarch ! You made me want to get a copy and read it !
Thank you for the clarification and watching my review!

Lovely edition. Great review!
That is a very valid point or just plan to reread that one at the end maybe 😊
@@EntertheBook oh true, good point :)
Middlemarch is on my TBR. Not sure when I’ll get to it though. I’m thinking of reading Sense and Sensibility for Victober.
Another solid choice for sure! The choices can be overwhelming to me and this is now my favorite. Do you have one you recommend?
@@EntertheBook I recently enjoyed Mansfield Park but my favourite is definitely Pride and Prejudice.

Middlemarch is a strong contender for this Victober. I have only read the Lifted Veil which was ok
Thanks 😊 I hope to read them all someday- I will check thrift stores and used books for sure!
