Born Delray Hospital 2/26/1945. Raised there. In the Polish/Hungarian neighborhood. Lived on Copland & Medina Streets which no longer exists.
Very nostalgic and positive memories. Thank you !

My dad grew up in Delray, said it was a great community, mostly Hungarians and Poles. Most of the men worked in the various industries in the area.

Delray was a thriving industrial area until the late 40s

Worked at that treatment plant for years. My job allowed me to roam the city to different water plants and offices. We drove around that whole neighborhood and took tons of pictures (hint how long ago that was, camera was a Sony 1MP that used a floppy disk as the recording media).
It is a ghost town pretty much. There are businesses that are around that we went to. Couple of stores, gas stations, a pawn shop, and a restaurant or two off Fort St.

Thanks for sharing the experiences. I love hearing stories of how the city and its neighborhoods used to be.

Yeah, if you want to see authentic historical buildings that never been rebuilt, go to Fort Wayne.

A lot of folks from Hungary settled in Delray . Grandparents were raised there and obtained factory jobs . I remember in the mid 60's it seemed alive with people .

Delray was thriving at one time but heavy industry, oil refinery, and Detroit sewage treatment plant made it a heavily polluted area.

The bridge will be completed in late 2025. The Delray properties have been expropriated to create space to build the bridge landing and plaza on the American side.

I was born and raised Downriver (Riverview). Can you take a ride around Elizabeth Park in Trenton someday. It would bring back memories.

Do you know the first Beverly Hills Cop movie at the beginning where Eddie Murphy was hanging on in the back the semi truck-trailer was filmed in Delray.
