The cousin scenes were SO relatable. I had a very distant cousin, one I didn't even know I had?? I still had met her when I was a child, but I somewhere around 8-10 years old. The first time I had met her, I had stupidly gotten jealous of my brother's kindness towards her and snapped at her, which I felt very bad about and apologized to her that very same family reunion. For context, we had family reunions every summer. For the next three summers afterward we were like best friends during every reunion, I was excited to spend time with her every reunion and that we did! After our third summer together, I chose to stop going to the reunions for a number of years because of the bullying we had endured together that last summer from our other cousins. It wasn't until I was 19 that I attended another reunion, and I was most excited to see her again. But whenever I did see her, she remembered nothing of the bond we had for a multitude of summers and only remembered the mean thing I had said to her the first five minutes of knowing her. It hurt my feelings to the core, no joke.
Sisters was my first book by her😭 I was the younger sister and I literally act almost exactly like the younger sister in the book while my sister wasn’t really like the main character but it was a cute book because it taught me to somewhat appreciate my older sister
10:20 the issue with fish is due to not only negligence and abuse at most pet stores, treating fish and many other smaller pets as more “disposable” (though definitely mistreating all of them to some extent or another), but also due to the lack of proper care information that’s provided about the animals to new buyers, ranging from proper feeding and co-habitation info, as well as even just basic environmental/habitat info. Oftentimes these stores won’t even sell the right sized tanks/terrariums and the filters and heaters needed for a lot of their animals basic survival, especially fish, and they’ll sell these cheaply made (and yet often overpriced) toy-like decorations and tanks/cages/terrariums etc., that will be WAY too small for the animals needs (and like in the case of fishbowls, might even be designed in a way that actively disorients and freaks out the animals, thus shortening their lifespan even more), so that they can market to kids and their parents, and will often equate a smaller animal to being easier to take care of and claim they’re a “starter” pet, when in reality, all pets (aside from something like “sea monkeys”, which are the ONLY good “starter pet” for younger kids, but should still be supervised) need varying amounts of care of varying kinds, and a lot of the smaller animals are actually the most fragile and have the most specific care needs, but the pet store industry has been spending years and millions of dollars in training and advertising and whatnot, to convince people otherwise, so that they can continue to run their stores like the equivalent of a puppy mill (esp for smaller animals, but also commonly have horrible breeding practices for their bigger animals too) that just has a brand name stamped on it, and reap the profits. It’s always best to do proper research and go to a reputable breeder when buying a pet, and to ensure that if you have small children, you teach them right as well, and never leave a pet of any kind unsupervised in the care of a young child. I wanna clarify I’m not one of those annoying PETA-loving losers, far from it, just love animals and have major animal autism and I grew up always wanting a million pets but luckily was not able to get any, as I grew up surrounded by that pet industry propaganda that treated pets like toys or dolls and encouraged really poor living conditions and tiny cramped colourful cages. If you want some easy to watch content on this kinda stuff tho SodaPets RUclips channel is a good start I believe, she talks about this stuff a lot and has videos talking about how she has gone about meeting the specific needs for all of her pets and how she’s learning constantly! :)
Sorry for the essay lmfaooo I’m just giga autistic about this stuff, idek if you’ll read this but I love your videos and it’s so cool seeing someone my age who grew up with so many of the same things I did, talk about their experiences with them!!! :3
I was about to comment something similar lol!! When I worked at a pet store it made me realize just how uneducated on small pets people were, fish guinea pigs hamsters birds etc are SOOOO much more work than people think, even "normal pets" like dogs and cats! I personally have 3 reptiles and researching their needs really opened my eyes when i first got them each
as a child i wanted a twin sister so bad but when i got to be a teenager i realized how much i valued privacy and how lucky i was to be an only child until i was almost 16.
oooof, i have 4 siblings and while we don't get along i still love them- that being said, oh my GOD do i wish to have a space of my own 😭 i share a room with my only other afab sibling and it sucksss- i can't personalize it in a way special to me, my entire sleep schedule has to revolve around them and their activities, and i constantly have to deal with a huge mess that i didn't even make 😕 sharing rooms can be very beneficial for younger children but once they hit the preteen/teen stages i need parents to PLEASE give them their own spaces 😭 edit: just remembered i've seen my sibling watch this creator too so if they see this hi! i'm complaining about you 😁👍
As a fellow autisic person I have that guilt of being the sibling that needs and gets the most attention to this day especially as my brother had to help out alot with my dad when was sick and he (my brother) is also autisic even if he doesn't know it (my dad was also autisic).
my older sister and I don't talk to each other and haven't for years lol we had a dysfunctional household, so it makes sense. We were closer when we were young, but in our teens and adulthood, it was just pure dysfunction. I was closer to my younger brother though because we were ten years apart and I learned to take care of him after moving out. Essentially I was able to become a good older sibling by learning from my older sister how not to be a bad one! :'))
Around 19 minutes you started talking about like growing distant from family and keeping yourself sane. I definitely relate to that. I have a really big family and when I was younger, we were all closer but now as we’re growing up, everybody seems to be distant and as much as I try, I feel like I go crazy trying to connect. Good advice on a situation I’m sure lots experience
i used to reread sisters constantly because i felt so connected to it. i have an older sister and younger brother so as a kid i thought the book was practically written about me
Dude 100% agree with the fish stuff! I won a goldfish from a county fair when I was a kid, and she lived for NINE YEARS. The only reason why that fish went kaput was because my mom left one of her friends in charge of the apartment while we were on winter vacation, and when we got back the fish was BELLY UP in the tank OVERFED to high hell. Pour one out for Stella, girly you were a real fish
i have 8 siblings, and one of my step sisters is the same age as me. our parents got married when we were 11 so they've always been around. we used to fight soo much even the occasional physical fight😂 but looking back now the relationship i had with her especially when we shared a room was really special and im glad i had her while growing up
the athor came to a mini-con in my town a while back, and i came litteraly a few minutes after she left i was SO sad omg. smile and sisters were my absolute FAVORITE book as a kid
This book is like a really relatable book because it shows why you’re you‘re older or younger sibling can be both your favorite and least favorite people at the same time
Omg about the snake thing! I had beta fish growing up because my parents didn't trust me with other pets. My second fish Lafayette went missing out of his tank one day and we never found him! We cleaned out the tank, no fish, we searched around the whole room, no fish! We never found him! And it was the day before my birthday when he went missing, I cried for days because I missed him so much! He was definitely my favorite but don’t tell Crookshanks and Blueberry the other two!
Well as a brother it's my job to pretend not to care about my sisters and to bring up that time they farted weird in front of their boyfriends and knock things outta their hands unexpectedly and mess up their room and be prepared to destroy anyone who messed with them.... Oh you were talking about something else, my bad
As an only child: as a kid I did want a younger sibling but now in retrospect I’m glad I didn’t. My parents were neglectful and I wouldn’t have wanted to have to not only worry about raising myself, but also raising my hypothetical sibling. I only really realized that in middle/highschool because my best friend had alcoholic parents and had to defend her younger sibling from that all the time. I feel bad for older siblings who were put into situations like that
YESSS MY CHILDHOOD! Omg this was the graphic novel series that eventually got me into comics and graphic novels and lead to my adulthood dream of wanting to make a graphic novel. Heck it’s also to my love of slice of life comics as it was the first comic I read where I realized not all comics were just action scenes and they could have slower stories more focused on the little details of life!
As another autistic only child you’re not wrong at all!! I remember feeling so jealous of my friends and family who had siblings cause I wanted one lol
I have a story about being overstimulated by heat. My family was checking out this historic church in California and we got lost so we asked a guy who was doing charity work for directions. It was so hot that I was not paying any attention to this person or anything that he was saying, all I wanted was to go inside and drink some water. After my family had a whole conversation with this man, we part ways and start following his directions. It wasn’t until we got inside that I realized the man that my family was talking to was in fact Shia LaBeouf. It just goes to show that when you stop paying attention to your surroundings, you might miss out on having a conversation with Shia LaBeouff 😂.
I’ve been looking forward to you doing sisters and now I really want you to do Guts! I have really bad anxiety (I thing I have GAD and/or OCD) and I relate so much with the book guts!
i followed very recently because i feel like we’ve literally had the same childhood. every video you post is just a wave of nostalgia ☹️ thank you for letting me relive being a child for 30 or so minutes
i've always wanted a sister as an only child. If i ever have a daughter, I plan to be her mom and big sister in one. My parents are my only family in the us and all i had growing up. I haven't seen my extended family since i was a child or never met them. My mom did everything an aunt and grandma does and my parents became cousin figures on top of having to parent me! I'll never get the chance to be an aunt.
@ it’s about this character named Cat/Catrina and her sister Maya moving to a new town in California called Bahía de la Luna and when they arrive in to their new house they figure out that the town is haunted with ghosts by a tour guider named Carlos, and not to spoil you Maya has cystic fibrosis.
I grew up reading Raina’s graphic novels of the babysitters club so I totally agree with you on her art style. It’s great I am also both a little sister and youngest cousin. My sister also asked for me (Christmas! Which i was born right after luckily), I think our age difference is similar to Raina and Amara. we fought as siblings do, but we became much closer after our grandma passed bc that was my best friend essentially. There were moments of Raina and Amara that felt very relatable especially Amara’s attitude about not caring, but I don’t ever think our fights ever got that bad or were very long. Cousin wise, both my sister and I (but me especially) are MUCH younger than our cousins. I was 9 or 10 when one of my cousins first had a kid. As I got older, I felt like I would only be treated as a kid which sucked lol. I’m almost 25 now and it’s not that bad anymore bc I think my cousins are fascinated by gen z culture lol. My sister was not the same as two of our cousins were closer in age to her (one being her freshmen year roommate lol) I loved hearing from your perspective as I was never able to find a copy of this book in my library at the time
Thank you so much for adding your opinionated stuff in these videos! I've seen so many other channels that just recap whatever they're talking about and it's so so boring.. keep up the great work! 🙂
when i first read this book i was an only child, i did really relate to Raina in the wanting a sibling aspect of the book but i never got that chance until my sister came home for the first time. one thing thats majorly different though is that unlike Raina, my sister is adopted and we've never had any crazy arguments like Raina and Amara. i still really relate to the book though because of me and my sister and i kinda relate to it more now than when i first read it !!
i worked at a pet store years ago and the regular fish there (usually called feeders cause other animals eat them) die so easily. every day we had to scoop out the dozens of dead fish from the top and if you ever go to a pet store just bend down and look at the top of the fish tank lmao there will be like 20 dead ones. also it is fr possible for crickets to chew on your reptile if you leave them in there. yuck!!
As an only child, I've always wanted siblings too, but I realize now that would've made things worse at the time. When I was younger, pretty much all my close friends had siblings and I wanted that, they'd say "no you don't, I wish I was an only child" and I'd say "at least you're not alone". I still have close friends who have siblings, two of my friends are siblings and often mess with each other to piss each other off. So they're not selling the having siblings thing very well. I do always wonder what it would be like to have siblings, but I'm okay without any. Similar to Raina in this book, I've always been close with one of my cousins, but then when we became teenagers we started drifting apart. Also, I thought I never read this book, I thought I only read SMILE, but I remember it better than SMILE, so I guess I read this book despite being an only child. I vaguely remember hating this book and refusing to read it because it was about sisters, supposedly, and I didn't think I'd like it because I'm an only child. Oh how wrong I was. I guess I did end up reading it though. 🤔 Maybe I was in a book club at school and was forced to read it. I think that's how I ended up reading DRAMA.
As an only child I have multiple times wished I had a sibling. Very much agree that it would be like a built in best friend hopefully. Being an only child is absolutely lonely at times!
when i first read sisters and smile, it was really weird because i swear the sisters in that book are practically copies of my sister and i. my older sister has brown curly hair, i have straight blonde hair, i loved annoying her and pissing her off, she and i both liked drawing but i ultimately ended up more invested in it (and better at it) than she was. i think snakes are super cool, my sister cared about how people perceived her more than i did. i think the age gap was pretty simmilar too. the only difference is i'm the one who had fucked up teeth, not her XD,
Aw man 😑 I just knocked over my camera! 😠 I'm picking it up 😒 Sorry about that 😙 Also might be my first time watching you with headphones cuz I had no idea Bruno Mars was playing in the background the whole time lol
honestly, I’m someone with multiple siblings (3) and i’m the youngest. my brother was diagnosed with autism at a young age and I am not a glass child and neither are my neurotypical brothers. If your parents are good at parenting (or you have 1 good parent in my case) They will make time for each of their kids and try their best to meet everyone’s needs. Tbh me and my brother get along the best but probably bc i’m 96% i also have autism 😅
I’ve been watching your videos for so long I forgot you weren’t known by everyone ever so I brought up ur channel to my friend and she thought I was insane because I said “wait you don’t know shopkin girl?”
I am a younger sister and my big sister is on the spectrum. When we were kids we didn't really play with each other but we would watch the same cartoons and movies and sometimes we would play video games together. I did feel sometimes my parents gave her more attention but not that I'm an adult I understand why
While I have two siblings, they are much, MUCH older than me to where finding common interests or even experiences we related to was never easy. My sister moved away when she was a young adult and I was a baby, and my brother had little to no interest in bonding with a little sister, so my childhood ended up very lonely. Still love them to bits but yeah, I wished a lot of times that I had a sibling around my age lol
Does anyone remember Sabrina secrets of a teenage witch? I think it aired of discovery family and I used to watch it all the time along with MLP when I was little. I was getting ready for school one morning and I was humming a tune and I sat there and was like wait…wth am I humming and THE MEMORY UNLOCKED..I feel like this show is obscure but idk would be cool if anyone else also has seen it!
this was the one i read when i was little!! (though i wasnt able to get the whole thing because i was using some app that did it weirdly cause thats the easiest way i could access random books at school)
Also I’m currently doing a project for college on autism and representation in media and the four types; would you ever consider diving into this? Autism is a unfortunately at the hands of misrepresentation through film and tv and it’s interesting to see the way it can be broken down with the DSM-5 etc
Only child here who always wanted a sibling! I think for me it's not so much about wanting a best friend, but wanting someone who understands my parents and my upbringing like I do. It's also a little lonely. I love my family and I love that I grew up with cousins close to my age, but I think most only children simply feel left out by not having a sibling. Good or bad, it's an experience we can never have. I've come to terms with it now, but when I was a kid it really made me upset.
the cousins part hit very close to home. i have two cousins who live in the united states (i live in brazil) and i got to see them pretty often when i was a kid, back when they moved back to brazil for a few years. i tried to exchange emails with one of them, who was closer to me in age (the other was a bit younger) but she would only reply to one of five i would send. looking back, i think i came off a bit too strong trying to foster a friendship with her, which i kind of regret. now that we're all in college, each in our country, i dont know if we're going to see each other again at all. they dont have the time to come here, and i dont have the money to go there. its a bit sad, honestly. all i can do is hope they hold their memories of our time together as much as i do mine.
I had the fun experience of being an only child for years, then having my parents split, then becoming a younger sibling at one house and an older sibling at another Making me the middle child None of them are better really. They all have ups and downs But I do love my siblings very much
I also read this book all the time as a child, so I remember that the snake had been stuck under the seat for 2-3 MONTHS. Hence why they thought it died.
I never asked for a sibling when I was younger, then my mom married a guy who had a daughter 6 months younger than me Definitely wasn’t ideal for me at the time but something I would never want to trade for anything else
I've never read Sisters or Smile but love wathcing your videos. Ironically I've lost part of my front teeth which I've now had replaced but are fragile. Also I completely get the rereading books especially for nastolgic reasons, Im pretty sure it's a neurodivegent thing.
snake owner here! when transporting our more chill snake, we had this mesh/burlap type material, think like a thicker laundry sack that tied shut. our dangerous ones, we have a terrarium with a tied down top

CAN'T WAIT FOR GUTS, DRAMA, AND GHOSTS
There’s one about ghosts?!
@Jynxxx5 ghosts is different, as it follows a fictional family instead of Raina and her life
Drama was my favorite back in middle school!❤
I’m so excited for Guts!! That was my favorite one, I relate to it so much as someone with stomach issues caused by stress ❤
ME TOO !!

It’s great
I am also both a little sister and youngest cousin.
My sister was not the same as two of our cousins were closer in age to her (one being her freshmen year roommate lol)
I loved hearing from your perspective as I was never able to find a copy of this book in my library at the time
Every time I watch one of your videos it cures apart in me I swear, I always watch you when I’m feeling down and it makes me forgot about everything
i needed this so bad today 😭 ty for this gift
I’m obsessed with your hair in this vid it looks SO good
PLEASE DO DRAMA I'M LITERALLY IN LOVE WITH THAT BOOK😭
Thank you so much for adding your opinionated stuff in these videos! I've seen so many other channels that just recap whatever they're talking about and it's so so boring.. keep up the great work! 🙂
thank you!! it’s my favorite part of these videos tbh :D
OMFG I FORGOT ABOUT these graphic novels they're so good
when i first read this book i was an only child, i did really relate to Raina in the wanting a sibling aspect of the book but i never got that chance until my sister came home for the first time. one thing thats majorly different though is that unlike Raina, my sister is adopted and we've never had any crazy arguments like Raina and Amara. i still really relate to the book though because of me and my sister and i kinda relate to it more now than when i first read it !!
i worked at a pet store years ago and the regular fish there (usually called feeders cause other animals eat them) die so easily. every day we had to scoop out the dozens of dead fish from the top and if you ever go to a pet store just bend down and look at the top of the fish tank lmao there will be like 20 dead ones. also it is fr possible for crickets to chew on your reptile if you leave them in there.
YES IVE WAITED FOR THIS !! I used to reread sisters anytime i could back in 5th grade😭
As an only child I have multiple times wished I had a sibling. Very much agree that it would be like a built in best friend hopefully. Being an only child is absolutely lonely at times!
when i first read sisters and smile, it was really weird because i swear the sisters in that book are practically copies of my sister and i. my older sister has brown curly hair, i have straight blonde hair, i loved annoying her and pissing her off, she and i both liked drawing but i ultimately ended up more invested in it (and better at it) than she was. i think snakes are super cool, my sister cared about how people perceived her more than i did. i think the age gap was pretty simmilar too. the only difference is i'm the one who had fucked up teeth, not her XD,
Been waiting on this since the Smile video let's goooo. I never even heard of either book until your video but it got me very invested
Aw man 😑
I just knocked over my camera! 😠
I'm picking it up 😒
Sorry about that 😙
Also might be my first time watching you with headphones cuz I had no idea Bruno Mars was playing in the background the whole time lol
I LOVED THESE BOOKS!!
also off topic but i always love your hair and makeup, you’re so pretty!
This was my favorite book for the longest time and it still is🩷
honestly, I’m someone with multiple siblings (3) and i’m the youngest. my brother was diagnosed with autism at a young age and I am not a glass child and neither are my neurotypical brothers. If your parents are good at parenting (or you have 1 good parent in my case) They will make time for each of their kids and try their best to meet everyone’s needs. Tbh me and my brother get along the best but probably bc i’m 96% i also have autism 😅
Making people pay for bathrooms (or honestly fulfilling any basic needs) is absolutely evil, I just don't get it
I’ve been watching your videos for so long I forgot you weren’t known by everyone ever so I brought up ur channel to my friend and she thought I was insane because I said “wait you don’t know shopkin girl?”
💕💕 thank you for tuning in i appreciate it so much
@ OMG HI NO PROBLEM
YEEES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!
Ok now i need u to do a video on the babysitter Club🫵
i’ve never read any of those either (huge shocker) but i’d definitely be open to that !
@@lulaloopseytry get them in charity shops/thrift stores that's how I read them
I am a younger sister and my big sister is on the spectrum. When we were kids we didn't really play with each other but we would watch the same cartoons and movies and sometimes we would play video games together. I did feel sometimes my parents gave her more attention but not that I'm an adult I understand why
This was my favorite series as a kid
This was the book I read the most out of the smile series btw love the new background
You make me wanna read this series myself damn, I'm weak for stuff with siblings and stuff
WOOOOOOO YEAHHHH ive been so excited for this🖤🖤🖤
omg! such a blast from the past! please make videos on the rest of the books!
this was the one i read when i was little!! (though i wasnt able to get the whole thing because i was using some app that did it weirdly cause thats the easiest way i could access random books at school)
Also I’m currently doing a project for college on autism and representation in media and the four types; would you ever consider diving into this? Autism is a unfortunately at the hands of misrepresentation through film and tv and it’s interesting to see the way it can be broken down with the DSM-5 etc
yupp, definitely relate to the only child situation of wanting a sibling, not so much now but mannnn i wanted a sibling BAD as a kid
Omg my little sister loved your smile video she loves to read and write and loves smile, sisters, and guts
I loved this book growing up! I actually read this one before smile and I loved it so much when I got it from the book fair!!
omg just have to say i LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!
the cousins part hit very close to home. i have two cousins who live in the united states (i live in brazil) and i got to see them pretty often when i was a kid, back when they moved back to brazil for a few years. i tried to exchange emails with one of them, who was closer to me in age (the other was a bit younger) but she would only reply to one of five i would send. looking back, i think i came off a bit too strong trying to foster a friendship with her, which i kind of regret. now that we're all in college, each in our country, i dont know if we're going to see each other again at all. they dont have the time to come here, and i dont have the money to go there. its a bit sad, honestly. all i can do is hope they hold their memories of our time together as much as i do mine.
I’d love to see guts next! These books are so good, so happy to see them get some rep.
The long awaited sequel!!!!
girl your hair looks so damn good
total side note but ur hair and makeup is giving draculara/bratz doll i adore it sm🫶
this book hit different when you had a sister back in the day
I had the fun experience of being an only child for years, then having my parents split, then becoming a younger sibling at one house and an older sibling at another
Making me the middle child
None of them are better really. They all have ups and downs
But I do love my siblings very much
ISTG UR MY FAVV YTBER I LUV U 😭😭🙏🙏❤️
I also read this book all the time as a child, so I remember that the snake had been stuck under the seat for 2-3 MONTHS. Hence why they thought it died.
Your hair looks so adorable in this video omgggg! Loved this book and love this vid!!!
CANT WAIT FOR DRAMA
SISTERS was my goat bro i got the book from my sis when she was borrowing and i was so sad when i had to return it :(
Omg I love how you styled ur hair!! So cute 🥰✨
love reina’s books sm
I would borrow sisters from some of my girl classmates since I would be checking out Amulet from the library instead
You are such an underrated creator ❤
WHO is that little blue cat to the right next to the two purple care bears is that Periwinkle!!?
You should definitely cover Svetlana Chmakova book series after you finish Raina telgemeier or the friends series by Shannon hale
I never asked for a sibling when I was younger, then my mom married a guy who had a daughter 6 months younger than me
Definitely wasn’t ideal for me at the time but something I would never want to trade for anything else
PLEASE cover Drama!! It’s my favourite of her books!!
I've never read Sisters or Smile but love wathcing your videos. Ironically I've lost part of my front teeth which I've now had replaced but are fragile. Also I completely get the rereading books especially for nastolgic reasons, Im pretty sure it's a neurodivegent thing.
They are honestly superb books, Rena's pacing and storytelling is so great
@tux_duh thanks. Must check them out
snake owner here! when transporting our more chill snake, we had this mesh/burlap type material, think like a thicker laundry sack that tied shut. our dangerous ones, we have a terrarium with a tied down top
ahh I love these types of vids!
I love the Noive stars Doll.
