  • Although I like to restore and refinish furniture pieces as close to original as possible, this vintage Widdicomb Dresser was hiding some beautiful cherry wood grain. I chose to paint parts of the dresser in order to highlight the original solid cherry legs and drawers. You don't want to miss this one.

This is one of the very few cases that the paint actually enhanced the piece, he did a great job balancing the wood with the painted sections. Result is much better than the original; it is much more interesting and somehow lighter, not as "demure". I did joke that I would have liked a dark navy, but the black is fine. He really has an innate talent that most do not.

This Widdicomb Dresser was certainly elevated by this restoration. The company itself has such a grand history. The removal of the lacquer on the drawer pulls was an interesting choice, they had definitely been antiqued for a look of age distinction. The contrast of paint to wood brought the grain left exposed to a great feature. It's a piece that gained eye appeal by bringing a modern approach in this resurrection . Kudos.

I have run into the same issue. Usually people just want the dressers or nightstands. I'm not too much of a purist when it comes to keeping bedroom sets together. Many times, the beds were twins as you know. I haven't seen any genius ideas as to how they could be repurposed. Decades ago I was fortunate to obtain a dining room table and chairs. Lucky. You have given this piece another life! Just watched this 5 months old video as I am totally engaged to your work. But let me just say your Goodwill place is excepcional. Could not and will not finf anything like it your piece of furniture unless paying a huge amount here in UK. And definitely not applying my begginers skills on such a beauty. Thank you again. Stay blessed.

That style popular in the 70's
Usually fruitwood veneers and hardwood underpinnings. The cherry stain is typical.
    Beautiful results. Nice job.

Looks like your thrift store(s) have nicer items, and at much better prices. I like that you do such good and intentional work, not hella sanding and spray guns. Your pieces have a "feel" to them and aren't just a quick flip for cash. I adore old furniture and I thank you for sharing with us😇

What a lucky find! Normally the idea of painting such a piece makes me cringe but this has turned out quite smart. The wood grain being visible does highlight the craftsmanship in the piece.
