Constructive criticism:
It’s obvious by your work that a lot of effort has gone into what you do, however, the lyrics you have chosen in particular make you sound incredibly out of touch and I think that’s why some people tend to ‘feel a certain way’ about you. There are ways to get across a message without making it sound so incredibly forced. By seeing how you are in person I can immediately sense a large gap between your work and who you really are. I completely understand if my opinion is seen as unwarranted but I feel being a lot more honest and truthful would improve not only the way you are seen to the public but it would be relatable to a lot of people. You market to young people, even if you’re not selling anything and you’re just trying to get a message out, you still need to consider how you’re going to get people to see it. When I first heard your music something struck me as being overly optimistic. Now I’m not going to say optimism is a bad thing but ‘the youth of today’ don’t want to hear “You can be the best” for the 117th time. They’d much rather hear about the reality of things and if you don’t want to take that path I would alter your wording drastically to differ from ‘If 2013 Alfie Deyes made a music video.’ Even the slightest bit of self deprecation would help. Something often praised is musicians packing deep messages or experiences into generic sounding pop songs as it’s taking something that on the surface layer is generic and boring and adding something so powerful to it that many people can relate to. If you cannot take any of this criticism or simply don’t want to, feel free to ignore I won’t be offended in the slightest.
