    In 1947, newly minted Levittown, New York offered affordable homes, but there was just one condition: The development builder had written in his deeds that his 17,000 properties could only be sold to Caucasian people. PIX11's James Ford visits these once segregated communities and investigates the effect they still have on Black families today.

      There are plenty of reasons why whites wanted to live in an all white community . Let's examine the black communities that were white and are now primarily black owned . Towns like Hempstead , Elmont , Freeport , Valley Stream , Uniondale , Amityville , Bayshore , etc... These towns are in terrible shape now and are worse off for being black owned . Crime is rampant , property values are down , schools are violent ...No thanks

    That's the sad thing for those who came back during the WWII. If you were white then these Levittown homes were PERFECT for you and your growing family. Easily affordable through low interest loans gave these veterans and many people nearly all white the first time to afford a home to the younger generation. If you were black or any other color, you got a middle finger. It's just good old fashion racism here with those redlining ordinances. Designed to keep out all the minorities in the suburbs. Big reason why the 1968 Fair Housing Act came into play to stop those redlining ordinances so that minorities could buy a home in the suburbs.

      I grew up in Levittown Pa. The difference there was Levittown Pa was built in four different Townships so regardless of what Levitt did or what the racial make up was of the people buying his houses I went to school and had friends from the people from my Twp. not from people who just lived in a Levitt built house. My Township had a large black population as did my schools so I never noticed any segregation that may have occurred in other Townships with houses built by Levitt. Levittown was never a single entity either governmentally or socially. The only thing I had in common with other people from different Townships was we lived in a house built by Levitt.

    I moved to Long Island in the late 70s from Brooklyn, New York. I didn't know about William Levitt. It's crazy to know the history. This wasn't even the South. This was America. The land of the free. I remember 79 my Brother and I who didn't experience discrimination. We experienced the first Go back to your own town in America. It started slowly opening up. But I remember racial slurs. We used to go the roller skating rink in Levittown. All White kids. We had to get used to that coming from Brooklyn. Thar was set up by the Government. That is why when you hear Black Lives Matter. That was set up. My Parents became
    home owners. I didn't know about all this inside information. Great report about the conniving realtors who blocked. It's like what Akon said. America wasn't built for Black Americans. It was being set up for Melanemic people. Unfortunately that was the truth. America the great. Really?? Changes come with sacrifice.

Travel 15 min down the road to Margate or Brigantine and the people are mostly white, neighborhoods are beautiful and well kept and RE values are high. I've been all over the Eastern coast and it's the same story. It's not the color of the skin; it's the type of people they are...generally speaking - of course there are exceptions. We have a section of town where deeds were similarly written. The first Black family only bought into the platt in 1985, some 60 years after the platt started.
    By the way racism has a reverse. I was 'encouraged' not to buy into Black dominated neighborhoods in our city's south side by Black realtors. I was shown homes in a "traditionally Black neighborhood" on our city's northside, though.

  • @lordgrande9561
    @lordgrande9561 Год назад +10

    I Got to say this and this may sound kind of wrong, but with gentrification is increases crimes, predominant white neighborhoods are pretty low crime , when dealing with the middle class, but certain neighborhoods once were all white and once they started selling to African Americans the neighborhood when down hill , Compton Californian is a great example. And if you look at neighborhood that was one white as soon as blacks and latinos started to move in there when the neighborhood to shits. I live in Pontevedra Florida , but if you travel towards Jacksonville and you look at neighborhoods in the north side of Jax a 99 percent black is crime infested. The west side of Jacksonville used to be fairly white and low crime and when blacks started to rent and buy homes in those areas now the west side is like the wild Wild West. Because if we want to be politically correct yes its is wrong to discriminate against people of color but in reality once they move to a neighborhood and the neighborhoods became crime infested. I am sorry if i offend anyone but i am calling things how are seeing them.
